this sounds like a blast i'm in.
played through hs, pitched and first base. i throw around 80, but i'm a lefty and i had a decent curve and circle change back in the day. 3/22/2006 10:32:32 AM |

I'm a 6'2" right hander, but I was throwing mid to high 80's as a senior in high school. it's been a while, but I had some pretty nasty stuff. played for apex and we were always contenders. played against josh hamilton and played with people like landon powell, wes moyer, ect. I'm also a fast outfielder with a good gun from anywhere. let me know if you need any help. sounds fun. 3/22/2006 11:47:42 AM |

apex? i assume you know mitch pollard right? i was at cary for 4 years and i'm proud to say we never lost to Apex except for my senior year in legion ball (atleast thats all that I can remember).
btw, my dad coached cary legion back around the days of paul wilder and those guys. i played jr legion ball for ronnie powell with the Bulls, i haven't talked to Landon lately -- last I heard he was injured and trying to recover, have you heard anything on him lately? i'd love to see him make it for the A's.
and someone i know hung out with josh the other night, apparently he still hasn't gotten his act together. i really hate that. we kind of grew up together although he was a few years older than me (dad coached his older brother so we were at the ballpark alot together back in the day) and he's got more talent than anyone i've ever seen.
you're not Livolsi are you?

^^nah man, names tyler bergholz. I pitched and played outfield. I was two years older than mitch and joey bradley and those other guys that eventually won the state championship. I was there the years of david raymer, livolsi, steve carwile, ect. you must've been after me by quite a few years because we definitely beat cary the year we went undefeated in conference and went to the state semis and got beat by greenville rose. we lost to cary both times my senior year though. I can remember we were coming back on em and they called the game because of lightning. and I remember paul wilder. apex single handedly made that kid a first round draft pick. hit four HR's off us in two games. one of em was the longest HR I'd ever seen. that thing was still rising as hit cleared the trees at cary. too bad he's a fucking drunk.
as for landon, I haven't talked to him in a couple years. he was good friends with my brother so the last time I saw him was at some party in apex.
and yeah, josh hamilton is still a fuck up. he hung out with us in greenville one time about four years ago and he was all coked up and throwing 95 mph beer bottles at cars. granted, this was a while ago, but I heard he hasn't changed. it's a shame too. that kid was UNBELIEVEABLE. 3/23/2006 10:39:10 AM |

i faced Josh Hamilton twice...
the first time I hit a triple on a first-pitch slider...
the second time, he blew three straight 97 mph fastballs by me. 3/23/2006 11:14:51 AM |

I remember him hitting a one hop line drive to me in the outfield. I had to pretty much sacrifice my body just to make the stop he hit it so damn hard. you ever seen his feet? the kid wears a size 19 shoe! he had to wear football cleats!

What does that mean? He was put on the Rays 40 man roster again in November but he hasn't been cleared to play yet I don't think (though i can't find anything since November on him). I assume once he gets activated it will be quite some time before we see him even play competetively; once he does it will likely be high A or AA..
Some fantasy sites seem to have him listed on drafts for keeper leagues which I thought was strange. Makes me think he may have been reinstated..
** haha, i didn't realize he cleared waivers last year too. ANY team could have taken a gamble on him. I'm surprised no one did considering he is only 24 and the talent is still there. If he ever gets his life back on track he still could make something out of him self.. though it's a longshot

Name, Phone, email, primary position(s)
I'll put you on the roster and send out an updated copy to everyone.
We have 13 currently before today's aquisitions. So this'll be great. 2 catchers is really what I was looking for at the least... so this is very good. 3/23/2006 1:04:21 PM |

I knew Paul and those guys real well. I still see Paul once-twice a month. I remember one of his homeruns, I'll never forget it... he hit it straight back at the pitcher, the pitcher jumped out of the way coverin' his balls.... the ball was on a steady rise and cleared the center field fence. One of the most amazing baseball plays I've ever seen. just imagine the pitcher jumpin' out of the way because it was going to nail him in the balls and then it is a frozen rope over the center field fence. It was awesome.
You know Eddie Reel and those guys? My dad was the legion coach the year of the trageic wreck ('94 I believe). I was right there for the wreck, most terrible thing I have ever seen/will ever see.
I wish Josh would get his shit together. Just don't see it happening. Carl Crawford called him the best player he had ever seen. 3/23/2006 1:23:11 PM |

lebowski -- how is raymer doin? i saw him about a year ago and spoke to him a few minutes. can't remember what he told me he was up to.
I know joey bradley's little sister pretty well. i played a few games of legion ball with joey during his last legion season, i was 14 and he was 18 or whatever. (i know joey's little sister because we are closer in age + she's a girl that any guy with common sense would want to know, she's a beauty) 3/23/2006 5:14:23 PM |
mrlebowski All American 9310 Posts user info edit post |
^it's weird hearing that because she was so young when I knew her. I was a senior when joey was a sophomore, but I remember her being a cute girl, even if she was like 12 at the time haha. I haven't talked to him in a while. I hear he's getting married though.
as for raymer, I'm not positive, but I know he was on the LSU team that won the national championship a few years back, so I assume he's playing ball somewhere. I played basketball with him at the cary ymca about three years ago and that's the last time I talked to him. I used to see mitch and ben phillips all the time at ecu though. we would play derby all the time and get a keg and play wiffle ball on saturdays. good times. 3/24/2006 9:31:46 AM |

ha ha. i'm pretty good friends with mitch's younger brother, Brian. Jamie is a damn beauty, she's in school down at UNCW now. I don't think Raymer's playin any ball, he told me what he was up to last time we talked and for some reason I think Real Estate. Mitch is a trip, they grew up right around the corner from me.
Pretty weird, baseball was great back in the day. It's just not the same anymore around this area high school and legion wise. 3/24/2006 10:32:24 AM |

Just so you know this IS a wooden bat league. If you've never played with wooden bats before be ready to get PISSED OFF when you hit what you think is a sure home run about 40 feet short of the wall..
I'll go out there and take a few hacks sometime.. only like 10 mins down Aviation Pkwy for me..

Yeah, the bats are pretty shitty there... I think I was using a 32/30 one. I need to go break bad and buy my own but the damned people from the league still haven't emailed me back about if it's wood or aluminum. According to the above... it's wooden.
And yes, we're planning on practice at 11a on Saturday.
Prices are $2.00 for 20 pitches.

the best way to do it is to order them all together from one maker, but i know people have their preferences
