Quote : | "The "New" James Bond: The Reviews Are In Is Daniel Craig's 007 on target, or a misfire? The first reviews from H.M.S.S., or at least the London papers, are in, and thus far Casino Royale, in theaters Nov. 17, is being declared a winner. The Daily Telegraph hails Craig's debut as the licensed-to-kill secret agent "terrific," adding that the actor "steps with full assuredness into Sean Connery's old, handmade shoes," while the Times says Craig's "main asset quickly becomes evident: He can act." ^yeah, the acting might be great...
(and don't get me wrong, I have HIGH hopes for this film and can't wait)
but according to our booker it suffers from being way too long and having about 5 endings...

multiple reviews say best bond since connery.
only neg says it's a "backwards" movie, with bond waiting til the end to say Bond, James Bond 11/7/2006 12:35:58 AM |

isn't this meant as a sort of beginning and how the 007 name develops? so wouldn't it follow that he waits until the end to say the catchphrase so dear to the series? 11/7/2006 1:06:26 AM |
Thorsten All American 1809 Posts user info edit post |
^yeah, that can make sense.
I mean, I imagine he has to start saying it that sometime... might as well be at the end of this film 11/7/2006 1:18:21 AM |

yea one review i read said that when someone asks him whether he'd like his drink shaken or stirred, he says "does it look like i give a damn?" kinda goes into the backward motif

I actually thought TWINE had some potential--kidnapping M, an excellent female villian. It was kind of ruined by claustrophobic, boring, and ridiculous action scenes. Oh, and Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist. DAD was another story. I think that Brosnan's attempts to do a realistic, suffering Bond combined with the cheese factor of invisible cars just had me scratching my head.
I'm very much looking forward to this one. Loved the original books, so here's hoping it holds up. 11/8/2006 10:56:34 AM |

That and the use of matrix style camera effects as well as the fact that they tried to turn 007 into an action hero as opposed to a spy with shit like windsurfing with a parachute to escape an iceberg.
Halle Berry should have had her oscar revoked for that film.11/8/2006 2:25:16 PM |

The best connery movie (IMHO) was From Russia with Love. But the thing here is I think they need to completely re-invent Bond. Just like they did Batman. It is a different world now than when Connery played the role. I think they (producers-directors-writers) had burned out then recycled the same formula for 3 fucking decades!
eg: Bond fucks girl. chase insues.intro. Bond gets called in to office. Throws hat on hook. gets new gadget and pisses off Q by touching his toys. Bond fucks another girl. Girl dies. over the top car chase. Bond fucks another girl. Fight. Kills bad guy. Bond fucks girl again. credits. 11/8/2006 3:38:15 PM |
Thorsten All American 1809 Posts user info edit post |
^this movie is probably still going to be close to that formula.
bond becomes a double o agent... bond gets some kind of gadget (not as cool or as many as previous films), bond goes on mission, bond meets hottie, someone will get betrayed, bond falls in love with hottie, bond gets in over his head, girl dies, bond goes after bad guy,... bad guy dies... bond promises to only use women for sex and to help his mission, and never again for love, and thus turns into a bad ass pimp.

what can I say... I'm good.
Movie is bad ass. Action is good. Script is clever, actually a bit funnier than I expected. Just wait til you see hottie get out of the bathroom in a nightrobe... it was a bit cold.
everything I expected it to be. but the last quarter of the movie falls short just a bit in directing/writing11/14/2006 1:17:57 AM |

I saw it tonight and I was blown away. Way better than I had hoped, and I was even expecting a decent movie.
My only two complaints are:
1: You can literally play Count the Product Placement as you go through the movie. More than just Sony, although it's the most obvious.
2: I caught myself wondering at one point "Holy shit.. this movie is long as shit!"
but those are very nitpicky.
I like how you don't hear him use the "Bond, James Bond" line til the very last scene... 11/18/2006 2:12:01 AM |

I was really impressed... much better than my expectations as well.
I think craig is more of a bond than say , pierce brosnan. I just think cockiness and self-assuredness seems more natural in craig whereas other bonds, I felt like they were acting cocky.
