Selling a pizza isn't hard.
Selling $500,000 worth of pizza is hard.
Buying a $1000 worth of printed ad isn't hard.
Getting $1000 worth of profit from discounted pizza prices (coupons) from new customers in order to merely break even on the expense....that is hard.
Owning a pizza business isn't hard.
Competing against a saturated market with contenders who've been around for 30 years or chains that have unlimited television, printed, and radio ads... is hard.
Soccer is an easy game. Winning against a team with experience is hard.

i had coupons for my lemonade stand when i was 6, i'm just saying. and i made like $12 in a day. if groupon is destroying your business it's your fault for entering a contractual agreement that you didn't understand and offering a deal that was going to cost you too much. 1/19/2011 11:19:22 PM

Not all Groupon customers are like this. I know the last one I used I spent double what the coupon was worth since I brought my fiance to lunch with me. Good deal for me and worked for the business too. If all your customers are cheapskates, it might have something to do with your base population you're dealing with in the first place.
Also, for groupon deal like the one at Carolina Auto Wash the other week. Of course I'm only going to spend a certain amount because the coupon was for a specific service. My jaw kind of dropped when I saw how much they charge for a car wash there though 1/21/2011 9:25:23 AM

Quote : | "Groupon horror: Bakery must make 102,000 cupcakes
Rachel Brown of Need a Cake bakery in the United Kingdom put an ad on Groupon, a group-discount website, offering 75 percent off on cupcakes to those who bought a dozen, BBC reported. The $40 cupcakes suddenly cost $10.
Turns out, people like their cupcakes. And their deals.
More from GlobalPost: Groupon IPO causes a stir
The bakery, based in Woodley, received 8,500 requests for a dozen cupcakes, far above the normally 100 it produces a month. Brown suddenly had to make 102,000 cupcakes. " |

She should have done the math on that before offering the Groupon. 11/25/2011 6:54:12 AM

i have about as much sympathy for these small business owners that don't understand how to set their own discount as i do the people who lied on their mortgage applications so they could finally get a house of their own 11/25/2011 12:01:59 PM

eh, Groupon folks are fucking terrible bastards when getting these deals. They really lay into the business. Obviously its the responsibility of the business to make sure what they are agreeing to, though.
Groupon won't be around much longer. They really fucked themselves. 11/25/2011 4:12:47 PM
