It really is stupid to buy tickets only when the $s get high. It makes the odds of winning that much more closer to impossible. And what difference does an extra $100 million make? (with all that said, I did by my second lottery ticket yesterday)

Certainly that number is greater than 275 million tickets, factoring government profit and admin costs. what portion of the ticket sales go into the pot?

given the pot size, this means enough were sold for at least every person in the US to have purchased at least one on average.
