Poor bastard is going to be 450 lbs when he's 40.

He's currently my favorite player.

^^ I'll commend him for getting back to close to playing shape... But his ass should have never been that out of shape to begin with. He gained 50-60 pounds from the end of his basketball season in high school to the beginning of his freshman season at State

it's hard to not gain weight when you discover the bountiful hoards of food at fountain (or case i guess). especially when they have unlimited cornbread.

^^^You're right, he did come way overweight. And I'd be ok with you giving him a hard time if he stopped there. But since he got here, he's been busting his ass to get back to where he should be. I don't know if you have ever been 340 lbs, but it's not easy losing that weight, and more importantly keeping it off. In less than a year he's lost 40 lbs and keeps going in the right direction. So ride his ass if you want, but I see an 18 year old kid busting his ass, trying to make his dream come true. And with his size and talent, I see him going very far in this game.

Not that the dunk is impressive, but the weight loss is:

That is impressive. Managing to lose all that weight and playing basketball all while performing to the highest of academic standards.

Golf clap for Meeks, but Anya is so much more of a massive human being than him. Their body types don't compare.

And BeeJay will be too. Or are you saying Meeks is now a better basketball player than Anya? If so, how did you make that assesment? That video?

I'm just wondering why you said "now", after Meeks weight-loss, since it's the offseason and you don't have access to either of their practices to see how much they've progressed since last season. That's all.

well i'm really just relying on last season.

meeks is a pretty talented offensive center. light years ahead of beejay in that half of the game. while anya's value is obvious on the defensive end of the floor, he really needs to develop some sort of offensive game to be compared to meeks.

I'll agree with you there.
Meeks also seems to be a good passer, particularly an outlet passer.

Meeks is definitely more skilled at this point (and honestly, he probably always will be). Anya has more potential though. You just don't see human beings with his combination of size, wing span, and explosiveness.

Saying that Meeks got in shape is just a fact, and we say that as NC State fans because we are not partisan hacks like the republicans are about everything. I think that we are a great example for the people in DC to follow.

Beast mode.

Will be awesome to see him and Meeks go at it for the next three years. Meeks has a sweet offensive game, but Anya is so fucking long. I recently watched some highlights from last year and Anya dunks with so much ease because of those Stretch Armstrong arms. Now Meeks is all cut-up and people are just celebrating that he can actually dunk.

We should have a pretty balanced scoring attach, so Anya won't need to put up a bunch of points besides putbacks and garbage buckets. But he needs to be a force on the defensive end. It's been sooo long since we've had one of those (I actually don't remember one in my lifetime...on the inside at least, we've had some good perimeter defenders).

Little head had his moments...but I don't think he ever really had that "inside presence" on the defensive end. Still probably one of the best in recent memories though.

Holy shit. He looks borderline slim in that pic.

How much Anya improves has a BIG affect on how good we'll be this year. We basically know what we're getting from Freeman and Washington. Anya is the one with the potential to completely change games -- not just contribute. Him getting in great shape definitely doesn't hurt our cause.

Just saw this on Pack Pride.

Quote :
"Biggest Surprise:BeeJay Anya (N.C. State): There were stories of Anya’s weight loss since the end of last season, but he clearly looks like a player who has redefined his game heading into his sophomore season. Since Anya has lost so much weight, he’s getting up and down the floor much better, getting better lift off of the ground and also making hustle plays that he would never try to make before. The improved lift and mobility means Anya was more confident as a low-post scorer and his tremendous wingspan also makes him a difference as a weakside shot blocker. I like this version of BeeJay Anya much better and I’m sure N.C. State fans will agree with me. (SP)"

I'm making not claims on his current weight. And with nobody coming with an answer, it seems like the information is not out there.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HIS CURRENT WEIGHT IS.

If it has been published somewhere...don't you think someone would have put it out there?? Have you looked for it yourself??

Nobody has put anything out since the 298 listing...and he obviously looks better than he did then. His goal was 285...I'd guess he's around 290 now.
