^You sure about that? Odds on 538 say we have a 37% chance just to get out of the first round while FSU is at 71% and VT 59%.

Of the 8 teams seeded in the 8/9 games, only Missouri and Alabama are showing worse odds of making it to the Elite 8.

again...i'm not saying it's easy. or that we should expect to go on a run. the road to the elite 8 for a 8/9 team is never easy. you have to go through a generally pretty evenly matched opponent in round 1 and then a 1 seed. but given other options, i'd rather have our path than having to go through UVa or Nova in round 2. and i feel like Clemson and Auburn are probably 2 of the most beatable 4/5 seeds in the whole tournament.

State is 44.5% R1, 15.8% R2, 6.2% S16, 1.5% EE, 0.3% FF, .09% Champs according to Kenpom.

K-State is one slot ahead of us overall, and Alabama is the only other 9 seed behind us. Oklahoma and Providence are the 10 seeds behind us.

12 Davidson, 10 Texas, 11 Loyola-C, and 10 Butler are all projected better than us (in that order).

Of course, UNC is 6th overall with 95.9, 70.9, 43.6, 25.8, 12.4, 5.7 odds, respectively.

Not really surprised that 10 and 11 seeds have better odds than us. Their R1 game isn’t much tougher than our R1 opponent. And their R2 opponent should be easier than ours.

The 9 seed is practically a death sentence. But once an 8/9 beats a #1, the path becomes easier than for most teams.

^i like jon bois and that's an interesting video and he presents some stuff i had never considered. but, imo, it's a little misleading (or at least misses the point) to say that the 9 seed's average opponent in the sweet 16 is a 6 seed. i mean...yes, that's correct. but that's because the 9 seed already beat the 1 seed in the previous round. the 8/9 seeds aren't avoiding a tougher opponent, they just play the tougher opponent in a different order than, say, a 4/5 seed. ultimately, his point is not wrong. just found that one part to be a bit misleading since the 8/9 seed has always faced a 1 seed in R2.

its not a big deal in years like this when theres only a subtle difference between teams 2-4 and teams 5-12. Kaansas is not that much better than cincy duke or michigan state. being a 10 or a 11 playing a 6 is more of a difference than a 2nd round matchup against a 2 or 3.

youre talking about tcu vs seten hall or kansas vs michigan state.

37% isn't exactly a strong position. Prob converts to a 5-6 pt spread, so Silver prob favors SH by a few more pts than Vegas. But State is prob more public than SH so Vegas might have that factored in.

The stat doesn't exist in a vacuum, because he first acknowledges that 10,11, and 12 seeds are more likely to make the sweet 16 than 8's and 9's.
