Yeah, I can be condescending--especially when I'm being defensive/feeling attacked, or when responding to what I feel like is lack of critical thought or falling for a distraction. It's a really bad habit that I guess I picked up early on when I joined TWW as dumb/angry teenager, and thankfully I don't actually talk to my students the same way I deal with strangers on the internet because that would be really bad for business. It's definitely something I can work on, so that’s a valid criticism. Even when I’m not even trying to be, I can be, and if that hurts people/bothers them/diminishes my own ethos, I can and should definitely do better.

As for being the “least knowledgeable poster on this board"? Eh, that's debatable. I am no NBA hoops scholar (haven't really had the heart to watch the NBA or other sports since the pandemic began, plus I'm 100% "fair weather"), and I can definitely confuse readers with my esoteric blend of sarcasm/hyperbole. I also have a tendency of switching back and forth with my genuine/honest/blunt feelings (again, leading to confusion) and “jokes” that apparent aren’t very funny to anyone but me. But I’d argue that most of my politically based observations/opinions are quite consistent. The only major policy issue I have done a complete 180 that comes to mind is the death penalty, and even then, I still have a side in me that would get some immense sense of satisfaction of having evil people executed for their crimes to avoid harming anyone else. Other than that? What major inconsistencies are you talking about?

I support the minimum wage hike (don’t think it’ll happen with the COVID relief, but there are still other ways to get it done), I support the Equality act, I support equal gender pay/a women’s right to choice, I support the Green New Deal, I support student loan forgiveness, I support holding the GOP accountable for spreading lies and corruption (but I know full well that’s not going to happen in 37 days), I support the vaccine/science, I support extensive police reform (I don’t like the wording of “defund the police”, but I agree with the general premise), and I also support holding major corporations accountable for promoting massive income inequalities (hello Facebook/Amazon/Google/etc), I support decriminalization of ALL recreational drugs, I support freedom of religion (so long as it’s not dictating public policy) and I support anti-racist rhetoric, despite being a white dude that has benefited from white privilege that often needs reminding that I’ll never actually know what it’s like to be a POC. I don’t support our massive military industrial complex in its current state, but I also support those who have served to protect the US constitution since they literally prevented a real coup from taking place a few weeks ago.

I want to get rid of the filibuster and the Electoral College and the two party system; I want term limits, I want expanded voter rights, I want DC/Puerto Rican/USVI/etc statehood, I want to do away with our ridiculous primary system which makes no sense in a 2021 context. I want to get rid of dark money, and I want the banks/wealthy elite to stay out of politics altogether.

I think we both mostly support the same exact things; I just think it’s way harder to get anything done with the current model of government we have, so I don’t get as angry/frustrated with the obstructionism because it’s like being angry about the weather— I can’t control it, I just accept it and try not to let it ruin my day. Or move to a place like CA when the weather is kinda amazing all year

Most of my political beliefs are based on the expertise/evidence/predictions of a wide variety of sources I read that are more knowledgeable than I am, so when they come true, it’s not like I’m some nostradomus— I just feel a little vindicated/validated for listening to the right people, and it does feel “good” when I’m right. I don’t follow anyone on Twitter and I try to not watch a ton of cable news, and I think having to constantly follow the most objective forms of news is an important aspect of being a teacher. But no, I’m not the most knowledgable posters on the form about ANYTHING. I never claimed to be. I just don’t think you have a strong case for calling me the LEAST.

But whatever words/message I choose, don’t seem to register with you in a way that seem to make sense/help, so I guess I’d rather just not engage if all it feels like is me being a dick/jerk/whatever to you when that’s not my goal/intention. I’ve said it before, but I’ve NEVER had a personal problem with you (unlike TGL who I don’t even want to bother addressing), but I guess you have a problem with me, and that’s not why I wanna come on TWW anymore. I can just disengage and you can carry on whatever conversations you want with people that you’d rather engage with. I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned about my writing/communication style which can always use improvement.
