The differences between that season and this one:
1) A late season loss at Maryland in 2010, at Wake in 2017. Maryland was only slightly better that year than Wake was this year, and Wake is an actual rival who gets geared up for us every time. Plus we lost to VT in 2010, with no additional ACC losses in 2017.

2) OOC loss to ECU in 2010, to SCar in 2017. I don't know anyone who would rather see an ECU loss on the schedule over pretty much any other OOC school.

4) The only big difference was beating FSU in 2010 and losing to ND. They served an equal function in our schedule (top-10 team in the middle of the season one week before also having to play Clemson). Although we lost in a stupid way, no one was surprised we lost and it's forgivable.

I still liked 2017 better than 2010, but yes a bowl loss would make it feel worse.

I heard El Paso is apparently a nice place to visit, but after going to ND earlier in the year doubt I'm traveling that far for this game.

ND taking the Citrus Bowl really screwed things up for the rest of the ACC. Then UL basically jumping us because of Lamar didn't help things either.

Can't say I blame a bowl for picking UL over us with a former Heisman winner there and a STRONG chance that our star player(Chubb) doesn't play.

it's kinda impossible to do with most bowls because it's a short turnaround on when it's announced and when the game is...but given a decent amount of time to plan it, that corner of the map (NM/TX/Mexico) sounds more interesting than Florida to me. i don't know much about El Paso specifically...just that the general region sounds more interesting than Orlando or whatever Florida bowl was on the table.

but what i'm talking about is more of a vacation that just happens to have a football game nearby instead of going on a trip specifically for the football game
