Poised to set up a term paper mill for all ACC athletes and become an on-staff agent for our football program if punishments are "light."

Quote : | "If we get a bowl ban and more scholarship reductions, it is completely over the top.
1. We have a clean history for the prior 50 years in all sports.
2. One of our "major violations" was for a rule that was not in existence (monitoring social media).
3. Two of "our" major violations were for former employees who did not cooperate. How the heck can we make Blake or Wiley talk?
4. Several of our "major violations" were for things that causes INDIVIDUALS to be ineligible. Is State's basketball program on probation because CJ Leslie took a few improper benefits?
5. We cooperated fully, provided all information requested, did not play ANY ineligible players once we learned of violations, and even sat players who did NOTHING wrong.
6. Our compliance education program was praised by the ncaa.
Now, contrast all of that with Ohio State who knowingly played ineligible players, was a repeat offender, had a coach cover up violations, and even had more violations during the investigation. Now, how does Carolina get as severe a penalty?!?!?!?
DO.NOT.COOPERATE. is the message the ncaa is sending. That is ludicrous. They should be giving a lighter sentence to encourage cooperation as well as for the prior clean record.
Truly, this is akin to a judge giving a 50-year sentence for petty theft to a 40-year-old who had no prior arrests, who admitted to the crime, and who paid restitution.
Rant over." |

from what i've seen on twitter, protocol is generally for the ncaa to inform the school in the morning and then release the info to the public later that day. so, it wouldn't seem like they've had all weekend to spin this. 3/12/2012 11:52:14 AM |

Because they went to the meeting in October and said "hey, I know we screwed up, so I'm going to propose you punish us like this..." and gave what punishment they would be fine with getting. 3/12/2012 12:13:41 PM |

^I think it refers more to sitting players out of games before they were officially deemed ineligible.
I don't know how much that will factor in since they were essentially allowed to build a program via cheating for several years. Holding out a few players for a few games doesn't really address that.

If they dont get the hammer I cant wait to see the protests put up by the likes of USC and OSU. Even if they did cooperate after they got busted, the shit that they pulled over there was blatant obvious cheating both in the football program and academically. They deserve far worse than what those other schools got. 3/12/2012 12:16:35 PM |

^^I certainly think that's part of it. But a lot of people are saying "if we get screwed over, we should have just denied the thing, and never gone to the meeting, and never told them they were right."
Nevermind the $27k or the tutor thing to begin with, it's the whole "we're getting punished because we told the truth" mentality. 3/12/2012 12:19:23 PM |

AHAHAHA, LOL. Just found out that it's "HONOR AND INTEGRITY" week at Carolina. March 12-17. Perfect timing NCAA, perfect timing.
Quote : | "For more than 130 years, Carolina students have pledged not to lie, cheat, or steal. Students enjoy a great deal of freedom at Carolina and have been entrusted to hold each other accountable for maintaining a just and safe community. As such, students hear and decide all alleged cases of conduct and academic integrity violations." |
I felt bad about posting the honor system facebook page, but y'all can search for it. I had a momentary sympathetic streak there, as there has likely never been a football player or a basketball player involved in the honor system.

I like how they used "petty theft" in their example to make their case sound more innocent. I also like how he included "restitution" like they were able to completely "return" or negate ALL positives in their favor by benching a couple players for a few games and firing the coach.
A better made-up but still useless metaphorical example is: Someone steals $100,000, and *only after they get caught* admits to the crime and returns $50,000. Apparently Carolina's eyes, this man should now only have to pay a $25,000 fine and serve no jail time because he admitted and cooperated.
