^This. Everywhere has bullshit classes that athletes get funneled into and its not hard to get a good grade. Most places don't have outright academic fraud, plagerism, do absolutely nothing/no show courses.

Perhaps I was unaware of the extent of UNC's academic fraud

This marks the first time on TWW or in life that I have spoken without knowing all the facts. My apologies.

All the more reason these should come out, Carolina can't be trusted to review themselves.

I used to work for the athletic dept and there are definitely some easier classes that athletes are funneled towards. As others have said you still had to show up and take tests and what not. They were just easy enough that if you couldnt pass you wouldn't be able to get a job at McDonalds.

I imagine there has to be at least one non athlete who graduated with a major in AA studies who is oblivious. They just thought they were a fucking genius.

It would be interesting to see which classes at State have the highest percentage of football players in them and if that number comes anywhere close to 40%.

Another thing I want to know is this: there are only 85 scholarship football players yet there were 246 in these classes. Since its over 3 years we'll bump the number of players in the program up to ~123. Obviously that means the average is 2 fraud classes per player. Does that mean 50% of the players take 1 and the other 50% take 3 or do 90% take 1 and 10% take 11 each. What's the distribution?

I think Bees & Beekeeping or Rocks for Jocks is up there.

I took both of those classes. (Loved Bees and Beekeeping). You definitely had a syllabus, defined assignments, and took the final exam. The class wasn't hard, but it wasn't one you got an A and did nothing for. You had to actually go through the motions to get an A.

http://acc.blogs.starnewsonline.com/30171/who-voted-to-fine-unc-and-who-decided-that-a-hollow-reprimand-was-punishment-enough/

Quote :
"As it turns out, the ACC’s Infractions and Penalties Committee came within one vote recently of fining North Carolina $100,000 for the transgressions of its disgraced football program.

That information, reported by Ivan Maisel of ESPN.com, is interesting in itself because a hefty fine would have made a much more meaningful statement than the hollow public reprimand the committee ended up issuing back on April 20.

Even more intriguing, however, is the mystery of which ACC rivals voted to hit the Tar Heels where it hurts and which schools decided to let them off easy.

According to Maisel, the vote was 7-4 in favor of fining the Tar Heels (UNC didn’t get a ballot). A two-thirds majority of the league’s members, or in this case eight, was needed to pass the motion. The published report didn’t identify which schools fell into which category."

My best guess:
For: NCSU, Clemson, Ga Tech, VT, FSU, Duke, UVA
Against: Wake, BC, Miami, Maryland

Not sure about Maryland, might switch them and UVA.

Wellman at Wake doesn't seem like the type to wanna fuck with UNC, BC doesn't want to set the precedent of that much money cause they don't want to have to pay if they ever get in a similar situation, Miami because they have shit pending and Maryland isn't going to agree with Debbie.

Seriously. This is THE dumbest thing I've read in Sports Talk. EVER.

You honestly think that the Maryland AD is going to vote against fining unc-ch just because he wants to do the opposite of what he thinks Debbie Yow is going to do??

my guess is the rivals (and of course Clemson) voted against, but the other teams who continue to cheat voted for

i mean, Miami is getting investigated for like 10 years worth of hookers and yacht trips, maybe they feel sympathy

who knows, maybe Swofford changed the votes like No'Show changed grades

i really hope they strip roy's two titles and he immediately retires

roy can't win the big one!

but if that happens, unc probably throws 25 mil per year at calipari and they'll win 3 or 4 more.. and have them for like 2 years until they're vacated.

All the colleges that make up a university have to get accredited every so often. Am I to assume that the "Institute of African-American Research" at UNC will be losing their accreditation?

Some good number crunching on Pack Pride:

Quote :
"Wufwuf1 wrote: Open seats in selected classes: 686
Occupied by non FB/BB = 417 61%
Occupied by FB = 246 or 36%
Occupied by BB = 23 (ironic number) or 3% (adjusted = 25% see below)
General population: 18,500
Football players: 120
Basketball: 16

So what is the general population's (non-football/basketball player) chance of randomly ending up in that seat? 99.2648% (18500 - 136)/18500= 0.992648648...
What is a football players chance? 0.6% or 0.006486486...
What is a basketball player's chance? 0.08% or 0.000864864...

So if you divide the number of football players (120) by the number of basketball (16) players you get 7.5

You take the number of basketball infractions (23) and multiply it by 7.5 to normalize the football and basketball teams you get 172.5

172.5 would be the projected number of basketball players in these classes if there were as many basketball players as football players.

This translates to an adjusted 25% of the total attendees if there were the same number of basketball players as football.

Basketball is hiding behind the raw numbers. Their players statistically are in the same boat as football. Willing to bet the other sports would make it more interesting."

and

Quote :
"More fun with the numbers!!

So taking the numbers above,

If you take the average distribution of the students based on percentage: 686 seats

Normal Students seats: 686 x 99.2648% = 660 seats Average | Actual Average students 246 or 27% of Average

Football Players seats: 686 x 0.6% = 41 seats Average | Actual FB player seats 246 or 535% of average seat distribution.

Basketball player seats: 686 x 0.08% = 5.5 seats Average | Actual BB Player seats 23 or 418% of Average seat distribution.

Conclusion: These classes were made for athletes. The fact that others might have made it in was coincidental.

Please let them argue that this was their major.. it only makes it worse."
