The above is a link to the CONMEBOL standings. Wednesday Paraguay plays Brazil for the top spot and Argentina is at Ecuador. This is a big game because of the playoffs. Hopefully we don't have to worry about that though.

Here is a pretty good feed for the T&T vs Mexico game. It's tied 1-1 at the half at the Estadio Azteca.

WOW! Nice save. I won't complain either way. It's probably good for us if Mexico wins. No way they lose twice in a row at Azteca. GO T&T!

^Yeh, he's a flopper.

Ecuador moved into the CONMEBOL playoff spot tonight and Brazil took the lead in the table.

2010 Report gave the game winner by Mexico the award of "best goal of the round." The goal scored by T&T also made the top 5 list.

the audacity to shoot from so far away is always what makes goals like that so awesome to me

either extreme confidence in your own abilities or complete disrespect for the keeper... well, probably both in this case

^hey man, you miss 100% of the shots you dont take

/cliche

but seriously, players should always take those attempts, its far away but look... it's doable

yeah, great players should and do

I'm just saying, I couldn't imagine being good enough to just look up from 30 yards away and be like, "Yeahhh, I'll have a go from here." That's what makes the great players great though... I guess when you have the skill, the confidence comes right along with it

I just hope they miss those types of shots on August 12th. Here is a link to all 3 goals which were good. Hopefully T&T can't shoot like that vs us.

That scorer caught the keeper sleeping on that one (the mexico T&T goal). That's part of the beauty of those long shots, they have an element of surprise. Even defenders are going to be looking for you to take a passing lane to someone in better scoring position.

Try to think, however, how many shots you've seen go sailing over the crossbar over the years.

booo

"FIFA rules will allow the switch to take place as all three caps came in friendly matches, so the 27-year-old is free to take advantage of his dual nationality. He will not be able to play in either the Gold Cup or Confederations cup because the new rule will not come into play until August 2009."

So we lost to Italy in the first game. I didn't get to catch it but apparently Ricardo Clark got red-carded around minute 30, Donovan opened the scoring after a penalty was won by Altidore, then Italy went on to crush us with two unmarked long range shots and a third. Two of the goals were scored by Rossi So we have Brazil next and a very surprisingly strong Egypt that lost to Brazil on a last second penalty... It's not looking too good in this tournament.

how about the two chances we had early on with left foot shots by bradley and altidore that were pure shit from the 6 yard box...

red card should have been yellow...

besides that, once we were a man down we didnt pose any threat, it was only a matter of time before italy scores goals to win

we need more from Tim Howard

the past few games... he's let in almost every decent shot that he's faced - I'm not saying they were blunders or anything, but if he's the world class keeper people claiming he is, he needs to come up with a few more world class saves

tim howard couldnt have played much better than he did, he had no chances on any of those goals. he also had 2 great stops at the end of the game, one on luca toni and the other on rossi. u can't blame any of that stuff on him, he looked better than buffon today, who kept mishandling shots.

I'm not necessarily blaming him but the second goal wasn't un-savable. Friedel/Keller always seemed to come up with incredible saves now and then... I can't remember the last time Howard made one. It's only fair to hold him to a higher standard just like we do with Donovan... our best players need to make plays

i would consider the two 1v1 saves at the end of the game to prevent it from being a blow out as incredible saves

ohhh yeah my bad I was thinking Toni's header when you said that ^^^^, that 1v1 save he had was class

still though, he's been beaten on a lot of long range shots lately... not completely his fault I know, but I still think de Rossi's could have been saved, maybe Gooch missing it threw him off a bit

that second goal wasn't great, but i think it was more of oneywu shielding howard and then completely whiffing on the clearance. it was a horrible play on his part

^Yeh! I've been there before when I have played in the goal. It sucks when no one wants to step and stands in the box and shields their own keeper. It's hard to stop any shot when you can't see it.

top teams (who won their region or group) are seeded by some certain formula that shows how well youve done recently...i forget the amount of years... a lot of people were upset last world cup that mexico was a 1 seed from concacaf when we won the region, but they were a 1 seed in the drawing cause their past performances in recent tournaments (maybe last 8 years, i dont know) were better than ours...

if usa win this region again, there is a good chance we will get a 1 seed in the drawings.

"Thirty-two teams are ultimately selected to play in the tournament. Once the teams have qualified, FIFA, using its ranking system, will then seed the top eight teams in the competition, and each seeded team will be placed at the head of a pool of four teams, referred to as a "group." The seeding process, which has a significant competitive impact, is based on a formula employed by FIFA that takes into account the play of each of the selected teams over the previous three years. The balance of the teams is grouped according to a random draw. Traditionally, there is one group of four teams that is very evenly matched and where no team, irrespective of seeding, has a clear advantage heading into tournament play. Such pools are referred to as a "Group of Death." The announcement of the World Cup seedings is a much-anticipated event; the seedings are typically determined six months in advance of the World Cup competition."

were #1 in our region...im pretty positive our results have been better than mexico's in the past 3 years

im not sure how much they use the "world rankings" into this formula at all, but even still. were #14 in the world right now, and there are 5 or 6 teams i think that arent even a lock in the world cup ahead of us in the rankings...let me check:

argentina
croatia
russia
portugal (looks like a miracle if they can make it to the WC)
turkey
paraguay

those teams are not a lock but are ranked ahead of us....

I didn't mean that as "GOOGLE IT YOU LAZY FUCK"

but wiki has some serious in-depth soccer information on it, that's always the first place I look for statistics or historical results

"regions" don't matter in seeding... its performance of last 2 world cups and average of FIFA ranking in the three years before the WC

who knows, its a stupid formula in my opinion...a team who may have won the world cup in 2002 will look nothing like the team that will be playing in 2010, its kind of dumb to look that far back for a team...

err, i should say a team who was in the world cup in 2002, not necessarily won, cause any team that far back is prob gonna look a whole lot different now
