I read the book a few years ago -- probably my favorite book of all time now. I haven't been that engrossed in a book in a long time. I will be curious to see what they will have to cut out to get it to fit in a standard ~2 hour movie. How far in to the book are you? There are certain aspects of the story that are revealed in the trailer that they should have left for the movie itself. If I didn't already know the story from the book, that would likely have disappointed me in the movie.

Dr. Grace and Rocky are pretty well acquainted at this point. He’s about to tour Dr. Grace’s ship.

I’m really digging the book. Between this and The Martian, this guy is such a great author.

Ah okay, Rocky was the part I was referring to as too much of a reveal in the trailer. I was completely not expecting that in the book and the way it was introduced was done so well.

In a simliar vein, the "documentary" Pavements was really cool, very meta.

^^^Took me totally by surprise as well. Of all the things I was expecting Dr. Grace to have to do to fix their problem, Rocky was NOT what I was thinking.

I watched Blue Moon. Ethan Hawke has been busy lately, and he's pretty amazing in it. And he's nominated for Best Actor. I'm not big on musicals and their songs from the 30s/40s (Blue Moon is probably the only song I recognized in the movie), but it was still entertaining.

The Babysitter and Babysitter: Killer Queen are two underrated gems on Netflix. Fun slashers with a supernatural twist. And Samara Weaving is always easy on the eyes.

Tried to watch Frankenstein. It's done well, but 45 minutes into it we were just bored, and it's 2.5 hours long! And we weren't digging the CGI.

So we watched Will Forte in 2013's Nebraska instead. It was pretty good. Depressing, but we related to a lot of it

Really? I thought it was done really well.

Not that my following comment is about a movie, but I'm about to wikipedia the last season of Americans. It's not that I'm not into it, I very much am, but it's actually giving me anxiety wondering what is going to happen to some of these people.

^^^I watched it, and I thought it was ok, but I don’t get all the praise that is being heaped upon it. To me it was just another Frankenstein story, if which there are many.

I actually dug Penny Dreadful’s take on Frankenstein.

^ and ^^^ yeah i just hated the dialogue a lot of times. It sets up such stupid stuff. I can't imagine people acting like that in those times. I forget in that first 1hour and 5min what exactly was said but michael b jordan telling some dude his lady might out her mouth on his dick, and then later the dude eating that one bitch out after she said she thought she should wash first. And that scene where he shot dude in the ass and other dude in the leg...just a few examples of how lame it was. I turned it off when kkk vampire ppl were like "well we got money to spend and all we want is to play music". And i think josh allens wife was so out of place. Its like a party of black ppl and you are like the one white cause you used to fuck whichever michael b jordan twin. Just whole thing was like man let me watch something else

Side note, isn't this jungle pussy from one battle after another?

The Running Man was unfortunately pretty bad as expected, wanted to be a satire action but neither the comedy, the commentary nor the action hit home very well.

Project Hail Mary was fantastic, but I do have some nitpicks of things they left out from the book

^I agree. Movie was 2.5 hours long though, and even then they couldn't fit every detail in from the book. Still, some of it could have been explained away in one line of dialogue.

I was pretty disappointed in Project Hail Mary. Too much goofy stuff I would have easily traded for science/tech stuff. The science and tech was half the reason I loved the book and there was very little of it in the movie.

I need to breed nitrogen-resistant Tau-moeba
Oh look! I can use the incubators
*next scene* I got my nitrogen-resistant Tau-moeba.

bruh

PS. Even if I hadn't read the book first, it still would have rated pretty middling ("mid") for me

^There were a few other things that were highly glossed over or entirely left out. Some more important than others though. <<SPOILERS BELOW>>

- They never mentioned in the movie what caused Grace's two crewmates not survive the induced coma. Its been a few years since I read it, but I think that there was a genetic marker that made some people more susceptible to "not waking up" from the coma. They knew it was there, but didn't have time to fix the procedure.
- They tried detonating nuclear weapons in Antarctica to try and increase global temperatures but it was unsuccessful. Not really a huge impact to the story though, so not a big deal to be left out.
- This was a bit bigger part of the very end of the story, but Rocky comes excitedly to Grace and tells him that Eridian astronomers have been monitoring our sun for years -- they noted that it had increased its brightness back to the original amount, indicating that Earth was ultimately saved.

The coma resistant gene wasn't why the two others died, since they both had the gene. The procedure was just risky as hell regardless

One of my bigger nitpicks is related to that though, they never showed why it had to Grace as a replacement. They don't mention that he has the gene (or mention the gene at all) and they also contradict the book by saying he didn't do any of the astronaut training..

In the book, he's more significantly involved in the project. He basically beta tests all the astronaut stuff on the science side, including going to the NBL to practice EVAs and the movie specifically says he never did this.

The scene with Petrovascope and the collection from Adrian were absolutely beautiful though.

I'm really hoping there's a director's cut with more scenes

Oh yeah and the utter chaos and heartbreak in the book over escaped Tau-moeba vs "hey, I'll just wrap them in plastic"

I will say I enjoyed the emotional stuff they threw in there. Even the karaoke

^Ugh, I still haven’t been able to get to a theater to see it. We had a huge soccer weekend in Rock Hill so we’ve been pretty busy with that.

Reviews seems to be universally positive.
