Stallings is a RS-SR that played 21-snaps last year on D. He was a special teamer and with our injuries last year he still didn't see the field.

Kid was recruited heavily by Clemson and just never developed or made it work here, so hopefully he can find somewhere to get some good minutes in his final year.

Sucks to lose McDowell but like mentioned ^, he always seemed like he was just securing a P5 spot. Now that he has more offers, including SCAR, not surprising he is opening things back up. Hopefully he still gives us a visit whenever they start allowing them. Only brightside to this decommitment is that he did it now instead of in a few months when he can take visits, so we have more time to find a replacement.

The only time I can think of before now when we've had multiple 4* QBs was 2008 when we had Harrison Beck and Mike Glennon (who redshirted.) That team also had Andre Brown and Toney Baker (injured, but still on the team) on the roster. Only had 1 4 star wr though that I can find - Jay Smith.

I’m assuming Jay Davis wasn’t a 4*. But if he was that 2005 team might have had it. Stone, Davis at QB (unsure about Davis’ ranking), Brown and Baker at RB, Tramain Hall at WR...and Darrell Blackman was recruited as a RB but ultimately transitioned to a WR. So that may be a stretch.

Pretty sure Davis was a 3 star guy. Plus Blackman really was a RB in 2005. He switched positions after that season. 2004 would have been a better bet if David has been a 4 star - McLendon, Blackman and Bobby Washington at RB, Hall and Richard Washington at WR.

2015 had Brissett and McClendon at QB, Frasier and Hines at RB (listed at WR as a freshman but had more than twice as many rushes as receptions - he was a RB) but no WRs. There was a very long stretch without any 4 star WRs.

Were boomers really the only ones hating on the hire?

I hated on the hire because Mack was hired at the age of 68 and had been out of coaching for 5 years after going 30-21 in his last 4 years at Texas (a good record for UNC or State, a definite steep decline at Texas though). Another reason I hated on the hire was because it seemed like a very short term solution, even if it did work out how long would he coach? I’m not gonna pretend that I thought it was a sure-fire home run hire. I thought it was a low floor, low ceiling hire that would buy them time to rebuild for a few years and then pass the reins on to a younger, more long term solution.

I think it was perfectly fair to question the hire for multiple reasons.
