the tournament committee would take into consideration that our best player was out for our 4 tough OOC losses, if we were on the bubble 1/7/2011 7:13:45 PM |

correct, however we would be better off with a win or two than excuses.
Again, our schedule is frontloaded with tough games so if we can just hang in there and win a few, we can really go on a nice late season tear and have "momentum" going into the selection committee. Thus, the frontloaded ACC schedule could end up benefitting us in the end.
However, it's going to make this messageboard unreadable for the next few weeks since NC state haters will be saying "SEE I TOLD YOU WE WOULDNT GO UNDEFEATED IN THE ACC" each time we lose to a tough opponent on the road. 1/7/2011 7:17:16 PM |

I didn't say that we should win both of those road games. I was just echoing your sentiment that we certainly need to take one of the two games (Duke? Not gonna happen in all likelihood), despite them being on the road. Those aren't exactly intimidating places to play unless Duke or UNC is in town.1/7/2011 7:22:56 PM |

Winning on the road in the ACC is a tall order, no matter what team you are or where you are playing. The ACC refs provide more "home cooking" than any of the other conferences that I've seen. 1/7/2011 7:57:34 PM |

Man it was good to see CJ Williams play like that. He was good his freshman year, awful for 75% of his sophomore year, got it going a little late last year... somewhat improved this year but inconsistent...
If we can just get solid production out of him we'll be one of the deeper teams in the country.
That seemed like one of those games that might give him some confidence and help him snap out of his funks...
Tracy Smith is rolling out there, CJL is steadily improving, Brown & Harrow improving, Howell looking sharper... Javi didn't have numbers but he did a really good job making sure we got the ball to tracy a lot... wood is on fire... painter with some solid minutes off the bench...
This could have the makings of a good season 1/8/2011 9:29:47 PM |

Quote : | "Alright basketball team its time to stop sucking each others nutsacs.
To the three freshmen, you guys havent grabbed a single fucking rebound yet this season so wake up.
The key to this season is Javier Gonzalez. Not only does he have to be one of the top guards in the ACC he has to help mold Harrow into a solid backup PG. He has to take the pressure off Lorenzo Brown and help him get good shots so he doesn't feel the pressure of being a go-to guy as a freshman.
Someone has to take CJ Leslie under their wing also. He looks weak, turnover prone, and has no shot selection so someone needs to teach him how to play within an offense so he's not riding the bench in crunch time and going down in flames like another undeserving McDonalds All-American. We all know he has NBA ambitions, but he needs to prove himself at this level if he really wants to get paid.
This team has to achieve this season. Has to.
There is no fucking excuse for a team with a dominant big man like Richard Howell and an All-American PF like Tracy Smith to fucking waste this opportunity.
I already know that Scott Wood will be on fire this year. He is going to be the best shooter in the ACC. He is going to just be a lethal fuck on offense.
CJ Williams is a huge question mark. He excelled late in the season when we turned things around and he was a liability at the beginning of the year when we couldn't win. He has to establish himself as a glue guy this year.
As far as Painter goes its up to him. He can be a standout defender with post moves if he wants to be. If he worked on his game this season we'll have the best frontcourt in the ACC. If he didn't he'll be on the bench.
Vandenburg looked as good his freshman year as Zoubek did. Zoubek was dominating games late his senior year. We'll see if he has motivation to succeed or not too.
Fuck guys don't go 16-15. Don't fucking do it. Win this year. -rallydurham 9-27-2010" |
This post makes me want to cry. They did it to us again. Fuck guys, seriously.
Anyway, maybe it's time to bump the rally thread. After we get the Duke mauling out of the way our schedule sets up for a rally.

^ the quoted post was actually pretty spot on. Too bad wall of the things we needed to go well failed miserably.
Javi = failure Leslie = besides some flashes of excellence, he is pretty much lost on the court Howell = mostly a non factor this year Smith = hurt Wood = can't get him open CJ = has played well in spouts Painter/Vandy = meh
I doubt we'll even finish with a winning record.

There is no rally
we all know Sidney's gone at the end of the season, so there's no need for a stupid site with a petition
we all know that Debbie Yow isn't going to fire him mid-season (seriously when was the last time an ACC coach got fired mid-season in College B-Ball? my guess is NEVER)
Can we get this shit locked? The Lowe love train is over. Let the dude finish out the season in peace so he can get his respectful exit on. 2/5/2011 11:20:29 AM |

Ha. There are fan bases that rabidly complain when their team is good. Ours complains because our "product" has sucked for a few decades and that somehow paints them in a bad light. Heck, by this point I'd think our fans suck if they were too apathetic to complain.
The teams we field make us look bad.
And the petition would just make the people that sign it look stupid insane. What difference has an online petition ever made? Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Great job by Sid re-organizing the troops for today's game. We looked really focused out there, I can't name anyone who had a bad game. 25 point road win as mere 5 point favorites was impressive.
I think we may have all underestimated what effects that midseason flu had on our team as we faced the most difficult stretch of our schedule.
Dare I say it, we have potential to make a rally!??!? Looking forward to an improved team over this next month and hopefully yet another ACC tournament run.
If we could just get CJL for one more season, we'd probably be a tournament team next year as Lo Brown is really turning it on as a playmaker.

Kenpom #20 Missouri #21 UConn #22 George Mason #23 Louisville #24 West Virginia #25 Virginia Tech

We are ROLLING.
CJL looks like the best freshman in the conference by a longshot. He may be one of the top 10-15 players in the conference right now...
Howell is just a total machine out there, unbelievable game.
Tracy isn't what he was last year but he looks driven to provide all that he can which is pure talent.
Javi has come alive. Finally. LATIN HEAT IS BACK.
Lo Brown and Harrow played hard, wood played hard, cjw played hard....
How about the re-emergence of Painter? This guy is athletic, has some skill, and is clearly the hardest worker on our team. I've never seen someone SO raw at the beginning of his freshman year be a net positive player this fast that wasn't a Jordan Williams type NBA player.
Painter can make us relevant if he keeps progressing like this.
Sidney, what is it man... you always get us playing tough basketball at the end of the season. You are the anti-Herb my man 2/17/2011 9:11:17 PM |

I can totally see us start playing with some confidence, and even making an improbable run in the ACC tourny (with a little help from other schools, of course) and then falling just short of an NCAA tourny invite, making the decision of what to do with Lowe all the more difficult. Not because I have renewed faith in the team, but because this is NC State, and nothing can be done without controversy.
