they have been making chatgpt a bit more permissive as well, although grok definitely has lower guardrails for nsfw stuff. the open source models are very good these days though, and folks who like to spend their time generating photorealistic waifus have plenty of options.

i think the larger legitimate issue is the nonconsensual nsfw stuff with real people, rather than generating make believe people in nsfw scenes. people have been photoshopping faces on naked bodies forever though, so this is not a particularly new issue.

It feels obviously different from someone using a passive tool like photoshop vs grok actively creating this image AND posting it on the internet. If governments around the world had any teeth, seems like grok would be back to offline mode for a awhile at minimum.

again, AI models do what humans ask them to do. grok didn't "decide" to create and post any images. humans did, and grok either complies or it doesn't.

the difference is the level of technical skill required for a person to make a nsfw (or otherwise haram) image/video has changed. a human needs to know how to use photoshop at a level of skill that few have or are interested in developing. but nearly all humans can describe in plain language to a model what they want, and it'll do it (unless the model is specifically constrained by the model developers for certain uses, which isn't even a 100% foolproof thing at this point, if ever)

Have you guys read about that issue at a Louisiana school where a girl got kicked out for fighting a boy that had shared an NSFW picture of her that had been generated by one of those nudity AI tools?

They really need to get a handle on this shit and soon. I feel for teenage girls these days. My daughter is one as well, and I honestly am lost when it comes to trying to protect her from shit like this. :/

i get it, i got kids of all genders to worry about over here too. again though, these are problems about ourselves. it is our own human nature we are navigating, it's not really about the technology. we all know how our generation, on this very site included, approached nsfw images/videos of people whether they were public figures or people irl. i can list 10 girls right off the top of my head who have had to ask me to take down nsfw content (whether authentic or not).

my advice to my kids (which reminds me, i will remind them of all this when i pick them up in an hour) ultimately is to focus on being strong, resilient individuals who know who they are and won't let the handful of assholes in this world dull their shine.

They clearly put a full nudity block in place but not a child porn block? He knew people would do it, they’d then add the typical safeguards in, and go on to the next thing. Also serves the purpose of bringing even more scumbags into Twitter. It’s funny you can generate exploitative pictures on Twitter but you can’t say “cisgender” without risking a ban.
