which bike is your dream bike?

if you get your dream bike as your first bike, you'll be sorry. Not only will you not know how to take it out to even half of its potential because you don't know how to ride, but if you drop it, you scratch it up and feel like a big douche.

ok i really can't take this any more, yall are all over reacting to which bike would be best for someone new. if you look at the stats of the bikes you are saying...the difference isn't much

NOW if a someone goes out and buys a r1 or 1000+ cc bike then they are a DUMBASS!! and will DIE! or have tons of surgery fixing their fucked up face because of they dream bike is dead.

oh yeah NUT SACK!

eh...who needs credibility when everyone knows that is ture.

but just for you
http://tinyurl.com/k8a6m

if you look the gap between the 600s and 500s is about a 10 hp increase something only experianced riders could tell the difference. now from a 600 to 1000 cc bike thats about a 50 hp difference. So you see that my credibility is just fine and i can still taught you cuz you didn't know.

The thing is that the powerband difference between 500cc and 600cc is pretty significant to where you can get into tankslapper much more easily and loose control.

not entirely that large, but 600's are def a step up from 500's. just like 500's are a step up from 250's.

Even though 600's offer 10 more hp they also can rev higher. 500's usually rev up to around 8-10k before they start to loose power. 600's dont hit their powerband till the 8-10k rev and hit their max hp around the 11-13k point. Also if you ever seen some 500cc power bands, they are more linear and have a lower slope while the 600's powerband looks like a mountain, as though it would seem a bike has turbo lag.

^HAHAHA nice one
Didn't think the 500R ninja was that low, thought more like 60-70hp. But they weigh like 300 pounds.

500's = v-twin
600's = inline 4

there'd be more of a 10hp difference betwen the 2 motor types even if they were the same displacement

This is my friends bike. I go riding with him all the time and he is 110% anal with his bike. I cannot even find a scratch on the thing and he cleans it all the time. color is sick and it is mechanically 100%.

My twin brother has an '81 or '82 Yamaha Maxim 750 for sale 14k miles. Its been garage kept almost its entire life and he is the third owner. It has a the sissy bar and luggage rack, and he is getting the seat recovered now. Its a good riding bike and I think he is going to let it go fairly cheap. It has a clear NC title. He bought it last summer and took it to a mechainic to have everything checked over and new fork seals put in etc. Its a good bike and it is what I always drove when my car was in the shop. I'll get some pictures of it up at some point.

What's a good bike to start on? I was thinking an older cbr 600. Something cheap cause I know I'm bound to drop it a couple of times.

Anyone want to teach a beginner how to ride?

Thanks

Mark

I was there at Apple Chill and there was a pretty good turnout. There were too many Busas for my taste; wish there were more yamahas but it was cool. there was like a sea of black people looked like the million man march

how much of a problem is gravel or sand on the road? If I was going around a curve at like 50% and the whole road was covered in gravel for like 4 or five feet, would I be likely to fall?

if you kept the bike leaned over and werent prepared for a slide, chances are you'd be on your ass

if you touched your front brake, you'd prolly be on your ass too

but if you stood the bike up straight and trail braked with the rear for long enough to go through the patch, that is if you see it in time, then lean back into the curve, you should be ok

yeah, I've only ridden a bike a couple times. I was trying to sign up for the MSF course at Johnston community college but they are all full until june

I rode my friend's R6 and that throttle sure was touchy! I just rode it around a parking lot though.

Well I had my first lesson with Igor today, i was a little intimidated at first...since ive never even been on a dirt bike, but after going over the basics and testing it out it wasnt bad at all. I think i picked it up pretty quick, after every few laps around he gave me some more instruction. By the end (about an hour) I was comfortable with everything. Its just gotta take some more practice to get everything smoothed out...and to top it off i didnt crash.

Igor was very helpful and informative, anybody interesting it learning to ride could def learn from him and i would reccomend it.

haha, i taught a buddy how to ride today too. he didn't do too bad, except at the end, he smashed the front brakes and slammed his balls against the tank, ended up laying on the ground for like 15 min haha, but didn't lay the bike down
