m2c, but i'm loving my 5S + iOS 7 so far. the fingerprint sensor to unlock is fantastic (no more swipe to unlock, no more looking down to key in a passcode especially when busy/driving/etc.).. it's easy and fast. i also like being able to register multiple prints, so my wife's print is on my phone so she can use it at any time and doesn't need to remember my passcode or type one in. it wasn't a "need".. but it's freakin awesome for convenience.

wrote a function to do this for work a few weeks back... usually i feel pretty good about figuring those types of things out but for some reason that warped my mind for a bit till i got it right. that was probably one they just decided not to do.

I will take back my point of the fingerprint example, clearly people like it, but my overall issue isn't the scanner, that was just an example.
Changing the way weather is displayed in the notification center, this example you guys are talking about shortening the names, the delay in home screen button responsiveness that seems to be linked to allowing you time to triple click (a function no one I know uses that you can't turn off), everything automatically refreshing in the background by default, the icons "flying" in when you turn the phone on (yes, it's a small as shit delay, but it's a delay I'd like to turn off), making the calendar in the notification center so big, changing the look of all the icons
No, these aren't all necessarily bad changes, but mostly people haven't been clamoring for them, at best most of them are just different, not better.
I still like the phone, I'm not returning it and my 4S still works perfectly, so clearly I like it better. I'm simply saying it's somewhat annoying to know they spent time on this shit while ignoring some things people clearly would like. 9/26/2013 12:39:11 PM |

Ha, in the Middle East, these are the current prices:
5c: $680 5s: $1,000 (16gb), $1,520 (32gb)
And that's on the Internet. Store prices will be even higher. 9/27/2013 8:32:21 PM |

FYI, gamestop will give you $320 for your iphone 5 right now... I didn't realize they accepted phones for cash.
Also, does anyone have problems with certain photo apps not saving photos to the camera roll? I like to use Snapseed and Phototoaster to edit photos. When I hit the save button, it just spins and spins and spins....
Some photo apps work. I assume it is an iOS7 issue and the app just needs to release an update. 9/27/2013 8:55:27 PM |

So I’ve noticed something interesting with my iPhone 5 since the update. I play audio through my car stereo using the lightning cable and an adapter that plugs into the factory DVD port on the back of the stereo. With iOS 6, when I had the phone plugged in, no audio playing, and the lock screen locked, the phone would show a black screen. Now, even after locking the phone, the screen stays lit showing the lock screen. If I lock the phone, the display turns off for a second but comes back on. That’s not a huge deal, I can get it to turn off by either 1) playing music or 2) Unplugging the lighting cable. But this is the most interesting thing…with the cable plugged in, no audio playing and lock screen visible, the time doesn’t change. It’s freezes the time. I can get it to update the time by pressing the lock button or home button, but if I leave it alone it just freezes. I wonder if Apple knows about this. It must be a glitch. 10/4/2013 11:07:19 AM |

The wife's iPhone 4 stopped working today, the apple store said it was water damage but it was working last night and there wasn't an event where water was spilled on it or anything. Is there any way that we can fix this on the cheap so we can at least sell it? I don't want to sell it as broken since it has personal data we cannot access to delete. 10/12/2013 7:37:45 PM |

^^ replace the headphone jack that has the moisture sensor in it, then take it back to the apple store and get it repaired.
the moisture sensor can get triggered by simple moisture, like being in a bathroom or a sauna or any humid environment. Its a crock of shit they use to deny people warranty claims. 10/12/2013 9:51:29 PM |

^ it was the sensor by the charger the headphone jack one didn't show up. It wasn't under warranty anyways, I just want it to start up so we can get something for it.

fiancee shattered her iphone5 screen this morning...no phone insurance with Verizon. I checked with the local phoneMD place they are charging $199 to replace a screen...that pretty reasonable? Obviously it's much less than what it would cost for a new phone, but I was wondering if I should go searching around for a better deal. 10/16/2013 10:21:01 AM |

^^ $75 is the going rate for a lot of local places to do iphone4s...but apparently it's much higher for the 5. Did find someone to come to the house to do it for $149 (icracked.com). Apple store was offering $269. 10/16/2013 4:40:01 PM |

Is there a better case than the life proof one for drop protection? I have tempted fate enough with dropping my 5 but I hate cases that make the phone too big, the life proof one seems reasonable thin unlike the otter boxes which I can't stand. Any other suggestions? 10/20/2013 9:36:52 PM |

i bought a screen replacement kit from amazon, and specifically searched for an IPS replacement, but the screen shipped to me was of noticeably lower quality than the stock.
YMMV, just be warned, if you are used to your good color and viewing angles. 10/21/2013 12:43:32 AM |

^^ The Lifeproof really isn't great for drop protection. It's great for being around water but the Otterbox (and other similar cases) are really pretty substantially better for drop protection. I've gotten to where I use a basic magpul case unless I'm planning to be around water or out checking jobs on a rainy day. There's not enough benefit to it to outweigh the annoyances for me (reduced volume, lower sound quality, having to use the adapter if you want to plug headphones in, the horrible screen "feel" if you get the original instead of the new nude, etc). My magpul literally offers 95% of the drop protection of my lifeproof imo. This is really for the original lifeproof too. I'd like to try one of the new Lifeproof Nude cases to see if it's any better for day to day use. 10/21/2013 6:13:35 PM |

I use a magpul case. It is by far the best case for the money. I have slung it repeatedly across the concrete shop floor with no damage. I have not had a drop from substantial height, but how frequent is that? 10/22/2013 1:59:29 PM |

Got the 5s last weekend, loving it so far. Pretty significant upgrade for me over the 4s I had. The speed difference and camera quality is noticeable. Was also able to retain the unlimited data plan with AT&T which was nice. What is the speed difference between 3g & LTE? When I'm surfing the web on this thing its hard to believe how quickly stuff loads now.

anyone with the 5 noticed extreme loss of battery life after a month or so with the new iOS? I've done all of the tips and tricks to disable things running in the background but my battery life takes a huge hit with even the most basic of usage these days. ^^^ Yeah definitely. My 5's battery life has been pretty horrible since the update. If I make sure to close ALL apps after using them, it's about the same as before but leaving them open means I'm needing a charge by the end of the work day (if not before). This is after cutting off the App Refresh and stuff. 10/30/2013 7:37:26 PM |

my 5's battery life has been pretty horrid for about the last week or so. it dropped 20% in about 5 minutes of use earlier this afternoon, and i have all app refreshing turned off, brightness turned down, airplane mode on all the time, basically everything recommended to preserve battery life. as soon as i turn airplane mode off, it just drains like hell. i'm wondering if some of the battery issues with the 5s are also in the 5. it would make sense since it's damn near the exact same phone. my 1-year warranty just expired though, so i'm worried i'm screwed here. 10/31/2013 8:22:21 PM |

Cracked my first smartphone screen in over 5 years! Dropped it on a goddamn rock. Luckily it's still usable (diagonal crack across the bottom 1/3 of the screen), but it seems to be slowly getting worse (and will definitely get worse with more pressure) and its just plain getting on my nerves.
Look at my Verizon account and I'm available for an upgrade in 3 days. Should I just pay $99 for a 5c, just replace the cracked screen on my 5 for $149, or get a 5s for $199?
I'm trying to factor in when the 6 is going to be released. I was planning on holding on to my 5 until this damn crack happened. 11/15/2013 12:58:14 PM |
