I ain't talkin' bout distortion, I'm talkin' bout DIRT.
I've got a couple guitars with P-90's, a couple Danelectros with ridiculously noisy (and awesome) lipsticks, and a beat-to-shit '60s Mustang with the pickups that came in it; Fender never put them in any other model, and they have phase switches for some reason. 5/22/2005 1:49:37 AM |
bassman803 All American 16965 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, my T-40 has a phase switch..it actually comes in handy, since the out-of-phase sound works really well with alot of my effects and such
i think i know what you mean by dirt....for us bassists, i think we refer to it as growl 5/22/2005 1:51:19 AM |

How do those Monsters hold up when someone rips it out of your guitar sideways and spits water on it? Right now I'm using DiMarzios that can hold up to a non-nuclear ICBM, but I'm always looking to upgrade. 5/22/2005 10:04:46 PM |

It was a joke, I would never buy a Monster cable. George L's are good for pedalboards, but they aren't really made for stage durability.
I agree that anyone can benefit from a TS-808, even if it's just to warm up the amp. 5/23/2005 2:34:46 PM |

ive gotten a few monster cables dirt cheap randomly at diff guitarstores and theyve held up forever. but usually i just use whatever i happen to have in close reach in our practice space before we pack for the show hah

I've never been able to tell the difference between expensive and cheap cable in any recordings I've done. The difference might be more noticable played live through an amp, but I don't really play that way. 5/24/2005 7:54:10 PM |

working in the wire and cable industry, i know there are only a handfull of major cable manufacturers (regardless what is printed on the cable, it was probably manufactured by Comscope, belden, pacer, alpha, cannon, or tyco).
i realize putting the ends on can be done anywhere, but that shouldn't make a difference.
granted i don't do any recording and haven't specifically a-b tested different brands, so i'll have to take your word for it that you can hear a difference. since all instrument cable is shielded. i would imagine the physical difference in the cables at each pricepoint is in the quality of shielding (ie foil only, braid, mylar+foil, etc). the difference in price from the lowest quality shield to the highest is easily less than $1/ft. i guess that why i have a hard time justifying the added cost for any of them. just something to think about before you spend $30 for $5 worth of cable with a $0.50 connector on each end. 5/26/2005 6:31:25 PM |

Fender Ultimate Chorus SG LP Boss Blues Driver Line 6 LX 4 Boss Phase Shifter PH-4 Vox Wah
It gets decent tone for SS. Great cleans with chorus/reverb/phaser, but the amp distortion is pretty weak unless the blues driver is on.

its got a few battlescars from being dropped... SG's are known for their strong mid frequencies, their LP-like tone, and lightweight. I just had to have it when I first saw it, it was a perfect match at the time. 5/29/2005 1:08:58 AM |

i finally have the sound i've been hearing in my head
oh, and fuck you guitar center. i sat in there for twenty minutes with my bass waiting for a saleperson to come up and try and sell me something, but y'all wanted to dick around up front with that blond wench. but dont worry, i wont be coming back in to bother you any more
thumbs up to Sam Ash though, they were very friendly and got me exactly what i needed, while offering some good advice and whatnot. plus i got a pretty sweet deal

cable quality as far as instrument cables is more an issue of durability and reliability. i doubt anyone can hear much of a difference assuming theyre properly shielded 6/2/2005 12:01:09 PM |

i dono if thats what causes that..this past semester i used tons of diff cables shieled and expensive and all just because i had so many and i used whatever was laying around. and on my way out of band practice grabbed whatever cord was closest. (just saying that so ppl know i didnt buy new cords to try and fix this "problem"). but i picked up 88.1 pretty much nonstop in my amp no matter what cords i had ha. only at really low volumes andonly when i wasnt playing 6/2/2005 1:32:34 PM |

Holy Cow. Im in love again. im glad i didnt switch amps from a 5150 to a mesa. my other guitarist and i have nearly identical tone note for note with two diff amps now with us having the same pickups. our practice last night was the tightest we've ever sounded together(guitars) and i just stayed up jamming till 5am and have been jamming for the last 3 hours as well. these things were worth every penny 7/16/2005 5:15:25 PM |
