i love oak island. its where we always went as kids. one of the three piers was lost a while back. there's a marsh that divides the beach houses from inland houses on the western half, so you get a real small community feel there. there's a great BBQ place there, and it's a short hop over to Southport, the ferry, etc.

if you're looking for low key, it's geat. if you're looking for people and shit, go somewhere else

NRR and I went to The BBQ House this past Sunday and it wasn't good at all. The sides tasted like they came out of a can or made from a box and the pork was dry. Went one time during the fall and it was very good so maybe they just had a bad day, but we won't be going back anytime soon.

But back on topic, if I wanted to rent a beach house or get away for a couple of days, Oak Island would be at the top of my list. Beaches are clean and never too terribly crowded. More family oriented and laid back instead of people just wanting to drink/party by the ocean.

^^well that sucks. it's been about 5 years since anyone in my family has been there, so it's sad to hear it's gone downhill

and there are a lot of "empty" lots on oak island because the front row has been severely eroded by hurricanes. there are swaths of areas that had houses in the 90's and now only have one or two left. like where east beach and 58th street meet. that was all oceanfront homes when I was a kid. now there are just 6 houses left on the first two blocks.

weather was beautiful yesterday at Kure

took my girlfriend and her little boy to the USS North Carolina and we went to Fort Fisher and hung out at Kure for the Boogie on the Beach thing, ate at Big Daddy's ... was good times

holy crap so the guy that mowed down two people on the highway in garner during last winters ice storm (charged with 2nd degree murder) is suspected of burning down two dozen condos, which resulted in more deaths over the weekend.

I was Surf City yesterday pier fishing then I got in the water - went in waist deep lifted both of my arms and yelled 'WHAT' to sharks and walked back to shore. Goddamn it feels good to be a gangsta

Ate at Max's Pizza on the way outta that piece. I really enjoyed that section of the beach and will go back in the very near future.

Nope and the mom he saved was high on all kinds of pills and shit....gotta love Wilmington. The bystanders got the Mom and one child out first, then saw the baby they apparently fought like hell with fire burning them but the car seat would not unbuckle.

Damn. My mother in law saw part of this and sent me a video. The CBPD pickup truck had the guy on a stretcher in the back with the lifeguards in the back with him, it they met a waiting ambulance right in front of my condo. He must have been gone already by then they took him to the ambulance quickly but he was not moving.
