Not sure how this is bad thing. Would rather go to Nashville than any of those locales anyway. The Sun Bowl is a horrible spot for the ACC. Another brilliant move by Swofford.

Lol at next year being any kind of indictment against our new coach.

Team is going to suck next year even if we put the game on rookie mode where you can see the play the opponent is picking a la Joe Montana Football on Sega Genesis.

I'm surprised at how many of you wanted him gone. Sure TOB was not the best but damn, we can do much worse. I hope that they had someone in mind and on the line before letting TOB go. I would hate to watch us go coach shopping and have to settle for 3 or 4th pick like we did in bball years ago. I'm not sure NC State is as attractive a coaching job as you all think it is.

I will still cherish my TOB signed hat.

Yow also announced that she would only hire someone with a completely spotless record as far as run-ins with the NCAA, and would not rule out coordinators just because they lacked head coaching experience.

Yow also noted that over the last six years, State has lost 1000 season ticket holders and an equivalent in sales of 1.4 million dollars - those are reasons to fire a coach, even if going to a third straight bowl isn't"

This "we could do worse" is the exact same line of thinking that leads to people getting married in their early 20's and ending the possibility of ever living a fulfilling life. Stop permeating the losing, haven't we all been through enough?

We're not asking to be relevant nationally, just asking that we are competitive in conference, particularly during the seasons when everything falls into place like it has three of the past four years (with last year being the exception)

Let's take an honest look at this season. And before we do let's remember that we pissed away a likely ACC title last season just so we could be better this year.

We went 5-5 this year which isn't good. You never want to piss away a great shot at a title just so you can achieve 5-5 the following year. In fact, I'd rather go 0-10 this season with a title last year than what we got instead.

Record against Top 25: 1-1. Okay, that's not bad. I won't argue that.

Record against Top 50: 1-2. Okay, not great. Hopefully we really ran train on our cupcakes.

Record against Top 70: 1-4. Holy fuck. What the hell is going on here?

Record against opponents ranked 71-100: 4-1. Dear mother of god. Did we really get fistfucked by UVA at home?!

I mean come on guys. Surely you've taken enough shits to know what shit smells like. This was a terrible season by any stretch of the imagination.

So Yow's comments pretty much confirm the rumors that she may go after Chad Morrison from Clemson or Pep Hamilton... not afraid to go over coordinators with no HC experience...

of course we arent. Why the hell would we hire a retread head coach who got fired somewhere if we can wrestle away an up and coming coordinator?

You always want to hire a coordinator if you can't get a big head coach. And in our position thats basically impossible to do.

Nice losing record against FBS teams over your 6 years. Good thing you played those 8 FCS teams to boost you over .500.

What a fucking loser. Good riddance.

Now, we have a couple of routes we could possibly go:

A high profile assistant like Kirby Smart of Alabama
A coach who has impressed at a smaller school like Darrell Hazell of Kent St.
A big name coach who has been in some way disgraced, like Mike Leach or Bobby Petrino.

My personal preference is to go after Kirby Smart, offer him at least 1.5-2 million per year to get him here and pony up the money to let him bring in a great staff. Now is our opportunity, the ACC is weak right now, we could win immediately with the right staff.

He'll be coaching at his school of choice, but we need to aggressively go after him. I honestly don't think he'll go to Auburn or Arkansas. I don't think he'd want to be in the SEC west coaching against his mentor, and Auburn is just in an awful situation. I could see Tennesse, they're going to make a real run at him and probably at Franklin.

If we're going to be serious about winning at football we need to make a serious at run at coaches who are worth hiring, not another stopgap, middle of the road hire.

1.Lower chic-fil-a sandwich prices
2.don't hire a HC
3. let the stadium choose the play by text (you know those polls they do during the game "text A to hear guns and roses....." they should do that for plays.)
4. profit

I was talking to my SEC-fan BIL this evening about the firing, and he said that his first thought was that this was done in response to our impending move to the SEC. I'm not saying I believe him, but when we announce our move in the next few months, you heard it here first!

I think TOB really did leave a better football system foundation here.
Not necessarily football system talent, although a great recruiting coach could fix that mighty quick...

Like Yow said, the timing really has to do with other job openings. Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas will be open and potentially USC and Oregon.

take this loser BS elsewhere. Sure, TOB is a great person; but he's obviously not getting it done as a HC here. Take away FCS wins and his record is horrible.

oh yeh, and reaching a bowl these days doesn't mean shit. I'm tired of this, "but he makes it to bowl games!" It's the fucking peewee league; everyone gets a trophy now.

Yow had already moved to replace him at Maryland by hiring Franklin, so I doubt we go after Fridge.

Franklin was an assistant at Maryland for the better part of a decade. Yow designated him as "coach-in-waiting" in order to entice him to stick around, but it was the new AD that fired the Fridge the year he won ACC coach of the year.

Friedgen is a big fan of Yow. That said, he is 65. We're probably going after a younger guy.

Every school in country does this, stop saying this shit. Did you see the week where just about the whole SEC played 1AA teams? Not sure why people are harping on this. It's not something new or unique to NCSU.

^I think you missed the point. The point is, is that NCSU's RECORD without those games is not very good. Sure EVERYONE plays FCS schools; but good or better teams beat those FCS schools and schools on their level of competition. It's a way to compare FBS records for games against FBS opponents. If you take away Alabama's FCS games, do they have a losing record?

A lot of teams still have a +.500 record when you look at FBS wins only. The point was not why do we play FCS teams. It is that his overall record looks better because of 8 FCS team in 6 years. notice that is more than 1 a year. most places play only 1 FCS team a year (unless a team backs out).

I think that happen to us once, due to Tenn or ND.

every team plays multiple cupcakes a year...the following programs are obviously lightyears ahead of us, but every top tier school in the country gets a few easy wins every season

Bama: Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Western Carolina
Georgia: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern
Florida: Bowling Green, Jacksonville State
FSU: Savannah State, Murray State
South Carolina: Alabama Birmingham, Wofford

honestly our games over the last few years against South Carolina and Tennessee are tougher OOC opponents than many programs schedule

Look at it this way... when you remove FCS opponents from those SEC team records, does it change your overall opinion of their season/term? Are they still above .500? Are they still a good or better team? When you remove FCS opponents from NCSU's record, does it change your overall opinion of that season/term? Is NCSU still above .500?

No one is talking about why we play FCS schools or acting like others don't. The point is, is that FCS wins make our records look much better; while other successful teams don't need those wins to have a good looking record.
