Lauren Brownlow is impossible to listen to these days.

I didn't mind her at first when she was only around for a little input but now that 99.9 has her on the show a lot, she's really become quite uninteresting.

So I've tried listening to David Glenn again a several times in the last weeks, and I really cannot stand him. He'll talk for 10 minutes straight, and say about 30 seconds worth of information. I don't mind Mike and Mike, and I actually like Adam and Joe (in small doses), but I find David Glenn intolerable. (cool story)

Ovies will tweet about radio programing every now and then. He had a couple tweets last week talking about the black hole that is the David Glenn time slot (in all markets, not just here). Basically, no matter who you put in that time slot, a radio station is not going to attract listeners. It's more just a matter of not losing money. So DG is basically the cheapest piece of garbage they could get.

LOL, apparently I made the same post in this thread June of last year. I just cant believe this show still exists.

also, I was on the road today during the DG Show. I turned it on at around 1:40 and it was a commercial break. I flipped over to Colin Cowherd for a couple minutes (literally like 5 or 6 minutes), went back to the DG Show and it was still in a commercial break until 2pm. I'm assuming he came back for a couple minutes to ramble about what would be on "after the break", but seriously? Twenty minutes of essentially nothing but commercials is pretty unacceptable.

Why I stopped listening to Mike and Mike years ago. They had I think a 4-hour show. Remove the commercials, fluff, and sponsored soundbites and I swear it seems they had less than an hour's worth of material.

i've caught a few things adam and joe say/reference that seem like a shot at DG. whenever adam had his 30th anniversary show or whatever it was a month or so ago, they were doing a "roast" of adam. and there were a handful of references picking on DG.

I can't stand DG, he blocked me on twitter awhile back.

I love being in Raleigh when I am in my car because I can listen to 99.3 or 95.7 but as soon as I get out of the city limits those stations are gone.

I used to like Ovies and Gold but now I really can't listen anymore, it's obvious they don't get along as well as they used to and Ovies tries to be way too pompous. And Brownlow, she's unbearable.

I much prefer when I'm in the truck and can listen to XM.
ESPN's lineup has gotten REALLY bad. Russillo was my guy, now all I have left is Lebatard

Ovies is definitely a know-it-all...does the "let me tell why you're wrong/i'm right" thing a lot and it's condescending. i still generally like their show. and i used to like Brownlow more but she's gotten less enjoyable recently, imo. she's become more like Ovies, i think.

Yeah call ins are not enjoyable.

I feel like twitter, for me, takes away from my desire to listen to sports radio. Like, during a coaching search or after a big win I can get my dose of “what’s the local media take on this” from twitter much quicker and more accessibly than sports radio. It’s obviously not the same and the fact that I have a 5 minute commute to work contributes to me listening less and less.

i don't think i agree. They made a change in on-air talent last year that has made the station a lot more focused. It used to be that the afternoon drive show was basically commercials and stale comedy bits for the last two hours. They've started the drive-time an hour earlier and have made an effort to have more interviews throughout the show. The co-hosts are a little more reigned in as well. I think those are all good things. Honestly, QCB and the Whiner Line were the worst things going for WFNZ.

Also, the Gerry-V show on 730am is a great listen. highly recommend.

I personally can't stand Kroeger and think he's a massive tool so I never turn on primetime. Then Frank Garcia trying to rub two brain cells together before that makes me cringe. Sometimes I'll flip on Mac and Boney but like you guys said they feed off of call-ins that can be unbearable for the most part.

I think Kroeger is ok, just a little bland sometimes. He's humble, honest, and well-spoken, which are things that can't be said for 75% of sports radio people. You can tell he's a big fan of the Panthers and Hornets, though his knowledge only seems surface-deep a lot of times.

One thing he does that annoys me is the way he asks questions to guests. He'll take 30 seconds to get out a question when it should have taken 5 seconds.

David Glenn is still, by far, the most knowledgeable local guy. Just sucks he's unbearable to listen to more than 10 minutes at a time.

I really liked WFNZ's revamped approach, especially in the afternoons. They got rid of the comic sidekicks and went back to a sports first approach. But I think the revolving door of co-hosts, most who didn't know anything outside of football, really hurt. But that's true about Frank Garcia as well. But i think he and Bailey give the station their straight man and comedy foil that they were lacking with Kroeger. As much as I liked Kyle Bailey when he joined the station last year i've been put off by him a lot lately. He can be a huge thin skinned tool on Twitter.
