thats the bad thing about overrecruiting. you end up with a team full of entitled brats who are shocked to discover they are not as good as the alabama players. now, they have nothing to play for and are counting down to the draft. 10/28/2017 2:51:46 AM |

Honestly, when was that...? I know UF won a couple division titles. But Butch Jones has been on a perpetual hot seat it seems. McElwain may have had hype after his first year but I really don't recall a time either coach was considered the toast of SEC - unless it was just off-season hype after they were hired. 10/30/2017 12:34:48 PM |

Man I thought Blackman looked good early vs us then he started to take a beating and got progressively worse. But was our secondary making him look good or has his confidence been shaken? He looks way worse than he did in the first half vs us 11/11/2017 3:58:05 PM |

^thats also why it's always premature and silly when people start looking at the extremes in week 8 and saying that there's gonna be 8 deserving teams and so many teams getting snubbed. It's usually gonna work it itself out and there won't be 8 one loss teams that all deserve to get in. But I guess the speculation of "what if all these teams win out!!?" is always fun 11/12/2017 6:21:18 AM |

I don't worry about it too much. This is like saying Duke would be the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, if it started today. They are trying their hardest to make a big deal out of nothing. If Wisconsin goes undefeated they are in, the ACC champion is in, Alabama is in, and probably Oklahoma. If that was the top 4 every week though there would be no change on selection Sunday and no drama, not that there is much anyway. It's going to be pretty tough to get 2 teams from the same conference in a playoff until it expands to 8+ teams.11/15/2017 8:30:11 AM |

Alabama still has to win the SEC to be in. Their SOS is bad. Not Wisconsin bad, but bad. They wouldn't get in if they lost to a 1 loss Georgia in the title game.
And they still have to beat Auburn. 11/15/2017 8:45:58 AM |
dmspack oh we back 25537 Posts user info edit post |
^^you're not necessarily wrong...but they have to try to base the rankings off current resumes not projected future resumes. so right now you kinda have to have 2 ACC teams in the top 4. you can certainly debate why Clemson is ahead of Miami, but based off current resumes this is probably the right top 4. yeah, this is clearly for ratings (why else make a show out of it?) and to drum up hype around the CFP. no different than when the BCS rankings would come out and people would get upset except now there's a weekly show about it. i guess they could just keep it a secret (like the NCAA basketball tourney) until the season is over.
Quote : | "If Wisconsin goes undefeated they are in, the ACC champion is in, Alabama is in, and probably Oklahoma." |
a lotta ifs to this since Bama's still got Auburn and UGa. but basically a one loss or undefeated P5 conference champion will virtually always get in. but there's a scenario where 2 loss Auburn gets in if they win the conference. and depending on how the B1G shakes out, they may not get any team in. opening the door for, theoretically, a 1 loss Miami ACC runner-up and a 1 loss ACC Champ Clemson to both get in. obviously this stuff will sort itself out in the coming weeks so all the speculation and what-ifs are just for fun.
Quote : | " If that was the top 4 every week though there would be no change on selection Sunday and no drama" |
yeah but they can't put out a top 4 every week of what they think might happen, they gotta base it off this particular point in the season.

A more realistic ranking at least for this week would be...
Alabama Miami Wisconsin Oklahoma Clemson Georgia
but that doesn't make selection Sunday fun, if everyone holds check in the top 4 and wins their league with 1, or less losses overall. The committee won't pass over an undefeated P5 conference champion this season.
Now if undefeated Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC title game and Oklahoma loses another game then you may see, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, and Wisconsin in whatever random order.11/15/2017 3:39:46 PM |
justinh524 Sprots Talk Mod 27843 Posts user info edit post |
Except that's not realistic, because Alabama and Wisconsin haven't played nearly as tough of schedules as Miami, Clemson and Oklahoma. That's why Alabama wasn't #1 until this week and why undefeated Wisconsin won't crack the top 4 without help. 11/15/2017 4:01:06 PM |

^It actually is because they are the best teams in their leagues this week. They aren't taking 2 teams from the same league unless a lot of things happen that haven't happened yet. If everyone holds check the bracket will look something like this...
Alabama/Georgia winner Miami/Clemson winner Wisconsin Oklahoma 11/15/2017 4:24:04 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25537 Posts user info edit post |

or any season ever. but you can't just automatically put them in the top 4 before they've actually accomplished that.

^Like I said, it is all silly because the ranking aren't anything like the bracket. 99% of the time they will take the four best P5 conference champions. 11/15/2017 5:56:07 PM |
