gotcha. that's good. will be interesting to see how we utilize the TE position. obviously we don't throw to the TE much, but how much of that is a product of ignoring the traditional TE in favor of a playmaker like Jay Sam?

I think Drink's offense can utilize a more traditional TE, think he modified it because JSam was special.

I also find it amusing how many recruits mention that we recruit them and point out we want to use them like JSam, I've seen it from RBs and TEs. Angeline even said that, but we're talking about a 6'7" big body that is agile with terrific hands(apparently had 0 drops in camp last year for USC). I see him being more of a traditional TE that can flex out and can just be a match-up nightmare.

It's why I said we'd need to use more that 1 guy to "replace" JSam. I think we could use a guy like Person in the running/end-around/motion that we used with JSam and a guy like Angeline as more of a TE/WR option that JSam provided.

6'7" is not TE sized

^It's not?

Zach Ertz - 6'5"
Greg Olsen - 6'5"
Travis Kelce - 6'6"
Gronk - 6'6"
Tyler Eifert - 6'6"
Jimmy Graham - 6'7"

Top TE prospects for the '18 draft:
Hayden Hurst - 6'5"
Mark Andrews - 6'5"
Ryan Izzo - 6'5"
Troy Fumagalli - 6'6"
Dalton Schultz - 6'6"
Mike Gesicki - 6'6'

I think JSam at 5'11" is actually more of an oddity at "TE". Angeline could probably add 10-20lbs of good weight and have a NFL TE body at 6'7 250-260lbs.

Wow, I had no idea they were that tall. I thought that was "insane WR size"

I stand corrected.

^^I think the gigantic pass-catching TE thing is a newer thing than say 7-8 years ago. Now a lot of the pass-catching TE's are just big WR's that aren't speedsters and instead bulk up and learn how to block. It's why there was the big rush for converting former basketball players to TE following Gates's success.

^That's why I put "TE" when referring to JSam. We're talking about using a mix of RB/TE's to replace his productivity, and he's listed on the NFL draft sites right now as a TE. JSam is a jack-of-all-trades on offense, but I don't really see the NFL embracing the "APB" label, so he's going to be classified as either a RB or TE.

That sucks for us but can't blame him for wanting to get paid. I hope we have some electric freshman coming in because our offense wasn't near as effective without him in the game last season.

That's unfortunate.

Between Gallaspy, Collins, and Person...we should be fine at running back...but Hines was definitely a game changer. But if Gallaspy can trim a few lbs and pick up the pace and Collins is as advertised (been very impressive in practice), then our offense should still be humming next year. Person is no joke and Pennix is solid too.

man we can never survive early entry. this could've been the year where all the stars finally aligned for us. its going to take a bunch of guys like this returning at once for us to ever make the jump to being a championship team.

^^^hard to tell how good he is. he would've had to beat out Jacoby and Finley to start, so it's not like scrubs were starting ahead of him. he made some mistakes in limited action in 2016 but that was probably him just pressing to make a throw and earn more PT. definitely wouldn't have beaten ND without him, like ^ said.

Nice to play BC before Clemson for a change. Didn't register there is also a bye, good stuff.

Hmm clemson has bye too. 11 acc teams have bye either 10/13 or -10/20

That wake game looks dangerous. Strong O, short week, post fsu, wake has Cuse at home before

Yea sorry I was projecting a tad bc I think Hinton will be pretty good and their receivers tore us up this year. And that was without Dortch

Also our best offensive and defensive players are gone too

i wouldve beem confident about beating wvu with hines but now it looks like we will be pass heavy and get into a shootout imstead of 200+ yards rushing

Idk about “should”. But definitely “could”. WV will be tough. I expect BC to be solid this year too...but we ought to beat them at home.

Hinton hasn't been good in the past and I don't expect that to change his final year. He's a good runner but below-average passer. I also think that offense made Dortch look good, as he went down and another WR stepped up and started putting up solid numbers.

Wake will be good but I expect not as good as this year. Basically expect them to be like Syracuse where people realize how much their QBs were carrying their teams.

I'd think if State went 11-1 with loss @Clemson, there would be that outside shot at the CFP (if losses mount up for teams in other conferences) in most years. But it'd definitely would have been a long shot this year with so many other one loss teams.

This is obviously a ridiculous conversation. But yes. At 11-1 any p5 team is at least gonna be in the discussion and with a break could make it.

Problem will be we'd be 11-1 with, at most, 2 ranked wins(WVU and FSU). Also, let's be honest guys, 11-1 would have been a longshot even with Hines and Richardson.

9-3(6-2) regular season with a chance at a bowl game and 10 wins would be another good season and keep the momentum with recruiting going.

I'm OK with not winning the conference, Clemson is insanely stacked on both sides of the ball. Feels like you can basically pencil in Clemson and Bama in the CFP this year.
