We picked the wrong Martin. This team is such a Trainwreck. Kinda hope Kemba gets away from this shit.

The PJ Washington pick makes sense assuming this is Marvin's last year. Definitely not a sexy pick, but he seems like a solid modern-day stretch 4. He's long, semi-athletic, can shoot, scores inside, passes well, rebounds well, plays unselfish.

The Cody Martin pick ... hmmmmm. I know it's the 2nd round, and 2nd round picks are crapshoots, but I don't get it. At least pick the good Martin.

I assume by picking either one, you have the inside shot at signing the other.. Seems like taking a PG at some point might have been nice

Caleb is the better scorer but Cody is probably the higher bball IQ and better defender.

You can see some semblance of a plan from most of the other also-ran franchises. The Hornets obviously lack one, and show zero signs of putting one into place. What a complete gong show of an organization.

I start to agree now. He may accept the invitation from Lakers and join with AD, Lebron to form a new Big 3. Good for him.

Wilson and Parcell played a montage of the audio of the Hornets shitty picks going back over 10 years. Hilarious!

He got drafted to play point guard. It's why his draft stock was higher than that of his brother.

as opposed to signing him and remaining in 8-9 seed perpetuity?

getting Batum, Biz and Marvin off the books in a year will help the franchise a lot, no matter what happens with Kemba

He should go elsewhere. Absolutely no reason to max him out (or anything close to it) and have him play for a perpetual 36-46 team. You could fairly easily argue the better long-term play is for him to leave, have the team bottom out again, and shed these terrible contracts over the next few years.

That argument would generally be based on the possibility of competent ownership and management though, which the Hornets have shown absolutely no sign of having or developing. The much more likely scenario is Kemba leaves, the team bottoms out, and the team bones the resulting great draft picks, and signs more gutter trash to long-term, high-money deals.

Yes, because this franchise has been just great with making lottery picks!

The Horcats have had 15 lottery picks since their inception. Kemba is easily the best, followed by Emeka Okafor and then it falls off a cliff.

I mean look who they've selected in the top 5: Raymond Felton, Adam Morrison, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Cody Zeller. Those are some pretty big fucking whiffs. The new lottery system doesn't reward tanking, and yet that's exactly what the hornets will be doing by letting Kemba walk.

The smart/right, but tough move SHOULD have been trading Kemba last summer and waived the white flag for a rebuild. Management held out hope we could salvage this sinking ship, but it's stupid not to get anything for the only asset you have. And he's going to walk, for free. I love Kemba, but I was prepared to let him go last summer knowing the Batum/Marvin/MKG contracts were poison.

If the All Star game wouldn't have been in Charlotte in 2019, would the Hornets been more eager to deal him this year? Hmmmm........

guys, its kemba we are talking about here. you had fun, he was a very nice boy, you invited him on trips with your parents -- it's hard to let a good thing go. but we all knew he had plans to join the seminary so lets just be happy for him.

and who knows, maybe after the hornets suck shit for four years and hit on a few picks, you'll call in the middle of the night and he'll pick up. sure he's older, the world has changed him, but you can at least lie to yourself for a middle of the road playoff run that the magic is still there.

High lottery picks are also death for the hornets

Quote :

They haven't hit on a few picks the entire existence of this franchise. And the only star they've ever had is going to walk for nothing because the owner is too cheap.

KASPIRITUS is right. If MJ/Kupchak knew they weren't going to offer Kemba a max deal this offseason, they should have traded him. They bungled this horribly. The hornets may be a worse run franchise than Sacramento or Phoenix.

Most lottery picks don’t hit, spare me the narrative that the Hornets will obviously squander all future high picks. That’s some pathetic defeated fan shit.

I don't think it's correct to say most lottery picks don't hit. Most lottery picks don't become superstars, but most become serviceable NBA players. The hornets draft awful shitty players.

I say that while acknowledging that I like the hornets last 2 picks of Bridges and Washington, but every lottery pick between them and Kemba have been massive failures.

^^ that’s fair, when I said most don’t hit it was meant to be in context of players able to change the fortune of a franchise, which isn’t exactly what “hit” means

for a team like Charlotte, those players aren’t gonna come in FA, not without a player or two already in place

the 76ers didn’t do a great job drafting, but yet enough chances and lucking into picks high enough and they are in an ok spot. well before Embiid breaks down completely in a year and a half. And Simmons will never develop a shot. And they pissed away so much for Butler and Tobias who likely both walk

^lets hope.

9 ppg on 38% shooting last year.

lol...fuck this franchise. They'll be lucky to get 5,000 ppl per game next year.

They're paying a man averaging 7.7 ppg over his career 58 million dollars for 3 years. Mother of God. Now you know why high schoolers wanna say fuck college, get me in the G-League.

No first round picks in a trade for Walker!? A career 7.7 ppg guy for almost $20,000,000 per year?!

Seriously, how does MJ allow this to take place?

For the record, I do not believe the Hornets could get better by keeping Kemba and giving him a huge contract.
