DY was at the Coaches Caravan in Fayetteville last night. Among a few things she said that Avent is getting a new contract (probably announced today or so). Apparently he has never had an agent but he signed Doeren/Gottfried's agent in the off season.

yeah it was fun...it started a little later than they were hoping for so I think Gottfried was ready to get out of there. He didn't wait around and sign anything. He just signed as he was leaving. Overall a great crowd (I think about 400 people) and some good interaction.

They had the gymnastics coach Mark Stevenson there, Elliot Avent, Dereck Whittenburg, & Gottfried.

P.S. Tony Haynes is maybe 5'5''

Let's take our minds off basketball and discuss DY's job so far.

Gottfried: One good year, 2 letdowns, not looking good.
Doeren: One terrible year so far, Jury is still out.
Wes Moore: Excellent first year. Looks like a homerun.
Shawn Rychcik: Won ACC in year one. Also looks excellent despite early losses this year to ranked teams.
Pat Popolizio: 14-7 this year. Improvement over previous staff.
Kelly Findley: Great track record. Showing signs of progress.
Tim Santoro: Was assistant at Wake. Went 7-12. Not sure any better than previous.

Not sure who else she hired.

3 McDonalds AAs, including the ACC's best player, several other top 100 recruits and looking at the 8/9 game. But please base everything off the preseason predictions. If you pull that card, last year we were picked to come in 1st and finished 5th so that's a pretty terrible year.

We lost to NC Central, Wake, and Miami. 2 of those at PNC. When is that ever acceptable?

The point is, everybody knew this was going to be a down year. We knew going in that making the NCAAs would be unlikely. If you want to shit on Gottfried for last year's letdown, by all means....that's a fair and valid point to make. But we lost like 85% of our scoring from last year. We knew this was a rebuilding year. It's unfortunate that Warren, arguably the best player in the ACC, is likely going pro and we "wasted" his best season due to having an inexperienced roster.

I'm not saying we should be content and happy with 9th place finishes. But I'd say this year, given the circumstances, is somewhat excusable.
