"You dont HAVE to load creatine but it will take quite awhile to reach saturation if you dont.

Id recommend taking 5mg pre workout and 5mg post workout for a few weeks and just once on non workout days

Thatll get you most of the benefits with less of the unpleasant side effects an wasted amount that doesn't go to stores.

Just remember you need to take it along with carbs or protein to absorb it. Not just straight water. And like you said it doesn't mix well anyway. I just dump it in my whey shakes personally.

"

I appreciate the input face and packman92. I've been taking it once in the morning after breakfast, once at night after dinner as I workout at lunch and I don't have a good way of taking it at work. I guess I'll keep doing that for another week or so and then cycle back to just taking the 5g at breakfast.

So I am intrigued by all the caffeine discussion. I consume almost no caffeine day in, day out. I occasionally have a cappucino maybe once per week. I guess it'd be nice to have the boost once in a while, but I assumed it was unhealthy too.

since i started this week, i've lost 5.6 lbs

i swear i'm following the app recommendations for calories, and of the four days i've been keeping track i've gone over two days and just under the other two.

i start to get cravings for snacks and an empty stomach feeling right before bed though, so i've got to eat more protein during the day.

i didn't "work out" so to speak yesterday as my thighs are killing me, but i did clean the house which worked up a good sweat.

Congrats. I usually drink a bunch of ice water to combat cravings. If I can get down about 16-20 ounces of cold water and still feel like I've got to have something, then I'll go for it. Nine times out of 10, it's usually just an empty stomach and water will satisfy.

I've hit a stall this week with weight loss which is disappointing. I've been meticulous about tracking calories and am on a 1,000 deficit every day. I've been good about going to the gym and lifting every morning and have kept alcohol intake down. Unfortunately I haven't dropped an ounce since last week. However, I have begun to see some good gains in strength and flexibility. Since starting a month ago I've gone up 5-10% on all my weights and I'm finding my body weight exercises getting a little too easy so I'm going to try and revamp some of those next week.

Is there a difference in drinking ice water as just water straight from the tap? That's another thing I've been more conscious about--my water intake. I used to carry around my liter or half liter sized nalgene bottle with me all the time and fill that up 2-4 times a day, but stopped doing that. Since carrying it around again, I can usually stifle the craving for a bit.

I use it, and it's Yohimbine HCL.

It's not for the average dieter, because if you aren't already lean (have some abs showing) it's not really that useful.

You'd find Ephedrine more effective.

I'm not sure about the ice water vs cold water, but I've found that drinking water when I feel hungry definitely helps with the hunger cravings. It also increases my water intake so it's good two fold.

Yohimbe/yohimbine is an alpha-2 antagonist, meaning it inhibits the effect of alpha-2 receptors. This has many effects in teh body including to help mobilize stubborn bodyfat; it also has a tendency to increase heart rate and blood pressure. Other side effects are also possible and individuals prone to anxiety attacks must not use yohimbine. Yohimbe can also cause water retention which can mask fat loss.

Re: pull-ups

I used to be able to do 27-28 pull-ups (clearing my chin at the top and going all the way down at the bottom, without kipping).

Of course, I also did them weighted, usually with 15-25 lbs or so. If I recall correctly, I could do 10 with a 45-lb plate.

Then again, I also was bench-pressing 350 lbs (at 182-183 lbs of bodyweight) at the time.

So, yes, 27 pull-ups is totally attainable. I've watched one of my Marine buddies do 50 of them (but he also runs 50 and 100 mile ultras as well as Ironman tris). I've watched another Marine buddy do 40 of them, but he was also competitive boxer.

You can definitely do it, but it takes a lot of gym time and work specifically on pull-ups, and you have to be awfully strong.

(my shoulders and elbows are too problem prone now to work out heavily and intensely enough, often enough, to have that kind of strength now. I can still do 20+ pull-ups, but not 27-28. I never 1RM bench, but I'd guess 275-285).

I would say harder. Full range of motion = more distance for tall people.

Also taller people will be more massive, and have more to lift.

A 5'6" person with a 24.2 BMI will have a body weight of 150 lbs to lift, a 6'4" person with a 24.3 BMI will have to lift 50 more pounds with a body weight of 200 lbs.

I dont think anyone was arguing that 27 pull ups isnt possible. Just that in order to do them youd have to have a noticeably different physique.

I saw you in college you were probably like 8-10% bodyfat at 180 lbs. That guy is 200lbs and 25% bodyfat. It just matters.

At his size if he could do 27 pull ups hed be benching 475

haha, yeah.

I guess what I'm saying is that you have to be in very, very good shape to do 27 pull-ups, but it is absolutely attainable and not just the realm of genetic freaks and elite athletic competitors.

* I think you also generally need to specifically train pull-ups, no matter how good of shape you're in.

you have to train high rep to be good at high rep. Being extremely strong at max-effort work won't make you better at hgih-rep work.

yeah, i mean, to some extent.

i found that i never gained the ability to do tons of pull-ups just by doing lots of them, though. What really made me much better at them was doing them weighted--sets of 8-12 with weight. Once I built up big strength on them, I just kind of raced through the first 20 or so without ever even breaking a rhythm...then I'd have to squeeze out the last 7-8 by doing a couple, hanging and resting for a second, then doing a couple more.

So no, I disagree that it's primarily a game of training muscle endurance. I found the opposite--that it's a game of training strength. However, you're definitely correct in that it isn't a matter of training for 1RM strength.

[Edited on May 18, 2013 at 5:09 PM. Reason : and maybe if you want to do 40+ of them, it becomes more slanted towards muscle endurance.]

^ agreed. its the same thing with almost every other exercise too, increasing strength (via heavier loads at lower reps) increases your ability to do lighter weights for more reps

And yet they didn't have a single fat fuck in that ad. They really are genius.

I was a member there for a year in grad school (i'm embarrassed to even admit that now). It was perfect cause they had a gym in Raleigh and Greensboro where the gf lived. The club in GBoro gave out free pizza on the first Monday of every month or some shit like that. They always looked at me funny when I told them I didn't want any pizza.

The final straw, was the day they told me I couldn't deadlift anymore. I had to leave. I talked to some guy about it a few weeks later, he said they didn't want to offend other members. what the fuck?

I went there for a while because it was cheap and I could tan. I was in disbelief when they brought in the pizza. I didn't give in to the antics either. They kept making announcements that there was pizza too, like you couldn't already smell it and see people swarming the tables. I think they also had doughnuts one morning.

^^ exactly. If you eat pizza before drinking you will store a ton of bodyfat.

Went out hard Friday. All day drinking on beach saturday then bars til 2 am. Now hitting the bars for sunday day drinking.

Took 150mg ephedrine yesterday woke up feeling like I was gonna die.

Did 3x15 squats followed by 3x10 presz and 1x15 deadlift then 10 chinups with one minute rest between each set. Was pretty nuts after doing low reps the last 6 weeks. Also walked two miles and bought five powerball tickets.

Going hard next weekend will be insane

I bought it at rite aid. Dont take 150mg then drink all day. The girl I fucked last nite told me I woke up in the middle of the nite and threw up and told her I thought I was gonna die.

I also walked into her sisters room naked before we went to bed. But that coulda been the alcohol not the ephedrine

Had to easily surpass 25 drinks today between the bars and strip clubs.

RIP GIRLFRIEND 2.0 diet starts tomorrow

Spent the whole weekend suffering from either a bad allergy attack or a cold. Not only did I feel exhausted all the time, but constantly felt like I was starving. Got up this morning, 2 lbs heavier than Friday, thought I was over it and hit the gym. Once my heart got going all the symptoms came flooding back and had to leave after 6 minutes. [/pity party]

Okay starting RIP 2.0 for real this morning. there dont aappear to be too many people taking their diet and training seriously in this thread. Hopefully my rigorous adherence will help motivate you.

Today is depletion day. No carbs and as many sets of 12-15 reps as I can possibly do in one workout with one minute rest intervals.

Stuck to my goal over the weekend except for Saturday--it became evident it would be my "cheat" day fairly quickly and I took that day off from exercising. Overall my first week I lost 6.2 pounds, and either walked, biked of did yoga everyday (but Saturday).

I can tell a difference if I drink one evening when I weigh in the next morning, and that probably has to do with my hypothyroidism.

Gonna keep it up this week and continue to not drink during the week to hopefully continue results toward my goal

Diet fail this weekend and spiked up 7lbs from my low weight!! Although this morning im already back down 3lbs so I don't think the damage was too bad.

Tested my chin ups today and got 20 with strict form, and probably could have squeezed out a few more with a lot of slop. Should be able to easily boost that up to 25-30 by the end of the week since I've got the strength capacity, now I just need to work the movement specific endurance.

7 lbs in one weekend! What did you eat/drink? That sounds like a lot.

I've found a really good groove with my diet and working out. Now that our dog is big enough to go on long runs, I've been doing a ton of cardio recently. I'm probably in the best endurance shape since I was placing in 5ks about 5 or 6 years ago. I've also been able to eat what I want to a certain extent. Still watching my bad foods and portion sizes, but I'm not starving myself at all and I'm back to consistently eating a small breakfast.

I also realized how much bartending use to keep my weight down. I still fill in shifts at my old bar where my best friend works at. Whenever he needs a weekend off or something comes up, I'll work for him on the weekend. I worked for him on Friday and Saturday because his parents were in town and got absolutely crushed each night. Made a ton of money...but also lost 6 lbs over the weekend. Pretty much non-stop moving from 6pm to 1:30 am. I'm exhausted.

Had a big group dinner of old buddies at 42md street oyster bar... I think I put down:

1 full basket of hush puppies and slab of butter
1/2 bottle of white wine
3 IPA droughts
1 sword fish filet + cheesy potato
1 full slice of peanut butter cheesecake
a few oysters
2 jack and gingers
3 bud lights

RIP GIRLFRIENDING IS really becoming a way of life for most so lets try to more clearly define it.

Ok with a girlfriend most people get fat and heinous.

So the first stage is to starve yourself out on a high protein diet while lifting heavy until you reach near 10% bodyfat. You wont put on a ton of muscle but you will drop a ton of fat. There's no point in trying to gain muscle first because it will take way too long and you'll get way too fat in the process and no one will see the muscle.

The next stage is to do low reps and lift heavy while eating a ton. This will gain you strength. Theres no point in trying to build size before strength because youre just lifting way too light to ever look like a man.

The final stage is to do RIP GIRLFRIEND 2.0 where you deplete glycogen with high reps and moderate cardio and starve yourself out real good half the week to shed fat then carbo load and lift medium once and heavy once to build muscle the 2nd half of the week.

After a few months youll have completed a body recomp that will have hymens all over the county wishing they could regenerate.

If you really wanna incorporate the lifestyle with the diet and exercise plan you sleep with randos and party as hard as possible in the meantime

Its the quickest and most efficient way to get results.

You dont want to bulk above 15% bodyfat youll put on too much bodyfat. You dont want to cut below 10% youll lose too much muscle.

Assuming the goal is the most efficient body re composition possible RIP GIRLFRIEND is the best method.
