Update from actually graduating several years ago.

I gave away my cheap B&D coffee maker after I bought a used Bunn-O-Matic Pour-O-Matic in brown/wood grain. I am almost certain this coffee maker is older than I am, but it makes coffee suitable for the gods.

I still dislike K cups in general, but 8 o'clock in a K is completely tolerable.

I have an espresso machine with milk steamer, a French press, and a basic drip coffee maker. I also have a conical-burr-type coffee grinder. I typically drink at least 4 cups per day ( the whole carafe of my small drop machine), and often twice that or more.

i went from ground drip coffee to french presses and homemade cappuccinos using stove top method. over the years i've slowly started taking cream and sugar out of the equation and today i don't even crave it. i agree it gives you a deeper appreciation for the flavor. Trader Joe's and World Market have some glorious beans BTW

For the person asking about a grinder, I use this and it's great: http://www.amazon.com/Porlex-JP-30-Stainless-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B0002JZCF2

I'm ashamedly snobby about my coffee, and that does the trick for me.

I forgot to drink it yesterday. Sometime in the evening, I had the worst headache of my life and almost threw up.

I'm sorry, coffee! I'll never quit you again!

Mmmm, donuts.

Also mmmm, coffee.

There's a local roastery up here called Blanchard's that makes some extremely tasty coffee. I've been buying their beans more often than not lately...a little expensive ($9.50 for a 12 oz bag) but it's worth it. I still take mine with a little half & half but sugar left the building years ago unless I'm getting something "fancy".

The purchase (or, should I say, listing on wedding registry) of a coffee maker with an onboard grinder was also a very wise move. Very nice to put whole beans in the top and have it transformed into a piping hot pot in one step. Takes a little cleaning but can't beat the freshness. We still have a burr grinder and french press, should break that out sometime, but I never seem to remember in the morning.

Is the onboard grinder a burr-type, or a rotary blade?

I did some research about grinders and found this to be pretty highly reviewed by aficionados, while not going quite full-retard with a $300 grinder or something. I bought one and think it's great. The only thing about it is that you can't remove the hopper for cleaning unless it's empty or you'll spill beans everywhere, so there's always some old ground coffee mixed in with the fresh. Of course, I use it pretty much every day, so it's always just a day old and there isn't THAT much.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000AR7SY

My drip machine (so to speak) is a 4-cup Mr. Coffee, though. It's about a $20 machine that I got on sale for $10, haha. It works fine; I'm not really sure what spending more money on a drip machine would get you besides larger size and ability to program it to make coffee at a certain time. I don't need either of those things.

I guess different brew temperatures would be an option, but unless someone convinces me otherwise, I'll stick with my $10 coffeemaker.

I was using the Clever which is like a French Press with a filter. It made my stomach upset though. I think it was because more of the oils and stuff got into my coffee and I am sensitive to them

So I'm back to my good old $20 Mr Coffee as well. Honestly, the quality is about the same. I need to get a better grinder.

Sometimes I wish it would go all transformer style and fight my wife's Keurig. Hate those things.

What sort of coffee have you tried there? Mostly espresso? Standard brew?

espresso, lungo, cappuccino, cappuccino with chocolate, macchiato, marocchino, orzo (roasted barley, but tastes nearly like coffee). and omg the hot chocolate here, it is so thick it nearly sticks to your mouth, almost like drinking melted chocolate, heaven!

and believe it or not, most of the coffees i have had so far here have been from vending machines, and they are top notch quality! (of course, the ones in caffes are better)

Like about a quart of it.

We have a Jura Impressa super-automatic espresso machine at work, and it might as well be listed under the benefits section of their hiring policy. Even the standard coffee is super strong (basically an Americano, each cup ground and brewed on demand). We use a Trader Joe's roast so it's pretty decent on the flavor side, but no Counter Culture.

my hospital has a couple of douwe egbert machines. it's pretty good for coming out of a machine, so I stopped making my own.

Jubala is still the best coffee I've ever had tho.

i freaking love my hario skerton: http://www.amazon.com/Hario-Ceramic-Skerton-Storage-Capacity/dp/B001802PIQ/

there's a reason it has almost 1k reviews and 4.5/5 stars...it's an adjustable, ceramic burr grinder that's designed to be a manual, though many people (myself included) mod it to work with an electric drill ($0.20 stainless nut is all it takes, and it's easy to switch from manual to automatic)

^i have been strongly considering that one. Just been reading on Amazon that they are struggling with authentic and fake models coming from various sellers.

is the grind adjustment range wide enough for fine grinds for pour-over to coarser grinds for press?

looking at my order, i got it from "value's japan"...i don't suppose i would know what a fake looks like, but i've had it for 7 months now and use it almost daily

i'd trust any of the sellers that are fulfilled by amazon...all (or most, i didn't scroll down too far) have great reviews and if you have a problem, i'm sure amazon will clear it up without any issue

as far as grind adjustment, yes, it's very flexible and i've used it to grind for my moka pot, drip, and french press...i've never tried to get it down to espresso, but since you can adjust it to the point that it won't actually turn, i assume you can get it small enough

it takes practice to go back and forth between grind sizes consistently...i use this method, though, and it's easy once you get the hang of it: http://fourbarrel.tumblr.com/post/283821195/easy-way-to-set-the-grind-on-a-hario-skerton

^How bad is coffee for your body? Or is it because you have a sensitive G.I.?

I think I posted this in another thread, but I had a Vietnamese coffee the other day that jacked me up right. I was struggling at lunch time and it kept me going through dinner.

I think it can be bad for people who have GI issues. I used to get awful heartburn and was on prescription stuff for it. Doc would always tell to lay off the coffee (and beer and spicy foods). And I noticed that coffee would occasionally cause me a flare up. But I haven't had any issues in a few years now

First, there's cascara, which is tea made from the dried coffee cherry. That's the fruit surrounding the coffee "bean".

Second, I've had several varieties of Darjeeling that have tasted a lot like coffee.

coffee would sometimes (rarely, really) cause severe heartburn flare ups, but i don't think i ever had any constipation issues with it. thankfully, i haven't had any severe flare ups in probably 2 years. and i'm off any kind of medication for it, too.

This. Also, if you're drinking lattes and other drinks, rooibos is a decent substitute.
