the same way you determine your little results id imagine
and for KB v.s. hand weights I love kettlebells i can do more explosive things with more control, plus the weight redistributes itself with your motion.
The only time they suck is when the handles are too small for your hands; i think that depends on the brand or something but doing full russians with your pinkyand ring fingers hangin off the weights is uncomfortable and really unsafe.

I'm hypothyroid. I prefer to be on the low end bc I feel better when I am. I'd also like to be at the same weight I was when I got pregnant the first time (whenever this next go around will be). Starting off at a good weight is good for baby health. Also, vanity--135 won't put me being underweight.
Short answer. I'm hypothyroid and a woman insecure about her body.6/12/2013 4:59:05 PM |

Anyone PreCool before a workout or run? What do you do? Or just cooling in general during the summer.
I did a bleacher workout followed by running out on the track in today's 90 degree sun. I'm only a few weeks into running and not conditioned to running outside in the hot sun and ran up against heat exhaustion. Most of my running these few weeks has be in a shady neighborhood late in the dayor on a treadmill, but I'll be out on the track two days a week for the rest of the summer. I've been looking at drinking a like sports drink slushy before to try to lower my core temperature or maybe like a Frog towel...I dunno. What do you guys do to manage the heat? 6/12/2013 8:17:37 PM |

This may not help much, but I just don't workout in the heat of the day. During the summer, I am either running/biking pre 8am or after dusk. 6/12/2013 9:05:19 PM |

bottombaby I love my endurance bandana and my frog chill pad towel. I roll and loosely wrap/tie my wet bandana around my throat and it cools the blood leading into my brain. Other than that it just a process of acclimating to the heat.
When I first decided to get active in my life (funny to say but it's true, I'm a couch potato at heart) was right before summertime and I got hit with the hottest, humid, insufferable weather ever. I stuck with it, woke up as early as I could, found nuun to add to my water, and just acclimated. By August I was used to it. I adjusted my pace and went by effort. 6/13/2013 6:41:20 AM |

Update....
weighed in at 168 this morning. down from 186 when i started. My clothes are noticeably much looser. i'm going to have to go shopping for new pants and a belt soon. I'm on the tightest belt loop option on my casual belt (that i wear with jeans). I've been wearing this same belt since high school. my dress belt can go tighter but when i do my pants scrunch up and it's uncomfortable so I've just been sagging my pants a bit at work. I was trying to hold off until I finished the program before going clothes shopping but I don't know if I can wait that long. Before and after pictures coming in July!! 6/14/2013 9:04:31 AM |

Amazing how much strength you lose when you take a long break from lifting and also amazing how fast it comes back once you start again. Three months ago I started back after a six month break and I was struggling with 225 (killing my ego in the process ) and now the weight is flying back to what I used to do. 6/14/2013 8:34:25 PM |

hey guys still working hard and making progress. i've got 3 more weeks of the Insanity program left and then I'll be focusing on strength training and would like to learn some good compound movement exercises, but i'll get more into that in a few weeks. for now I just wanted to say that I'm getting back into logging my food on MyFitnessPal and would like some friends. hit me up at jared.grinstead@gmail.com. I tried adding some people by their user name but from my iPad my only option are current contacts, facebook friends or email address. 6/19/2013 10:49:25 AM |

Heavy weights, moderate caloric deficit...cardio is not necessary. It also helps if you have big abs (train them with heavy weight and compound movements)...then you can be at a higher body fat % and it won't matter as much.
The last part....all the girls I know call them penis lines...work your obliques, but most of that is genetic.

i started my cardio program yesterday. thoughts and input welcome.
Day 1: 10-200m sprints. max 60s each. - i did 10 or 11 (lost count) all around 50s, last one under 40s and ended the day with some arms and core training
Day 2: relaxed non-run (bike, swim, hike/walk) - i'm going to do a bike for a half an hour to 45min or so
Day 3: at least 2.5mi run comfortable pace
Day 4/5: one day off. the other minimum of 4mi running/walking; just move for 4mi
Day 6: same as Day 2
Day 7: same as Day 3
then start it over again. i'm looking for solid noticeable results by 4 weeks. 6/20/2013 9:32:04 PM |

Cardio is the worst option. You can walk if you want but dont run . You need to be dieting and lifting heavy to look like that. Either full body 2x a week or upper/lower split doing 4 lifting days every 8 days. Anymore than that is a bad idea for cutting.
Youve got quite a bit of fat to lose (youre around 25% looking at a pic of a dude around 7-8%) so you'll probably drop 10-15 lbs instantly then aim for 1-2 lbs a week for 10-12 weeks.
Once you get there to 14-15% you can start looking at more scientific approaches to losing subcutaneous fat.
But to lose your 10% worth of visceral fats and free fatty acids try the DESDM diet. Dont eat so damn much.

i've had to scale back to working out 4 days a week because of the meds the new doctor put me on. one of the side effects is limb numbness and arthritis/joint pain and i'm having a lot of knee and elbow pain right now. but the meds are helping and i am starting to feel a bit better so right now, pros outweigh the cons. meds also don't make me super hungry so i've lost about 5 pounds.
focus is still mostly on diet but the new doc thinks the weird scale backs on food has to do with whatever is going on internally and eventually i should be able to eat certain foods again (which the meds have allowed me to slowly start to do - hello i can have oatmeal and chocolate again! ) 6/23/2013 2:02:31 PM |

I haven't been able to work out at all since I twisted my ankle on high heels whilst pretending to be a parking lot ballerina. I've still lost another pound, which I want. But I feel like I'm losing ground on building the comically large ass of my dreams.
I need the ankle to be at 100% in a week. If it's not, I'm probably just gonna start working out on it again. It doesn't hurt or anything. It's just slightly swollen and little stiff/tender when I move it. It's been a nice reminder of what an idiot I am. 6/23/2013 2:54:03 PM |

i love you.
in all ankle seriousness. i snapped the ligament that goes across my foot a few years ago and was able to work out on it (carefully). i just had to pay close attention and take it day by day. you might be able to do something a bit more low impact like maybe spin class.

Thank you! I think I'm actually good to go right now. I just have serious business coming up, and I can't risk hurting it any more than it is.
But, when that's over, I'm gonna take your advice and just start back on it carefully.
I'm sorry to hear about the side effects of your new med. I have no advice to offer. But enjoy the chocolate! 6/23/2013 3:14:29 PM |

Those guys have good physiques, but they didn't get the physique and the necessary strength by doing flags and dips. I guarantee they all do one or more of the powerlifting movements - press, deadlifts, squats, barbell rows, etc. You know, the stuff that people don't do because they're afraid of "bulking up". 6/24/2013 4:46:37 PM |
