Useless(?)/Interesting Stat:

As of July 5th, the Cardinals have the second best run differential in the majors (second only to Texas) but have the 11th best winning percentage in baseball.

One could infer this is meaningless. One could also argue that this stat shows they have lots of talent, but for some reason can't win the close games (poor relievers, no "clutch" players, poor coaching).

Kyle McClellan done for the year. Bullpen really shoddy outside of Motte & Boggs.

^It's mostly because they win 8-2 and then lose 4-3. Can't win the close ones, ended the first half strong though.

Cards are definitely better than their record. One problem for the Cards in winning the Central is that the Reds have a ridiculously easy schedule in the 2nd half. They only play like 25 more games against teams over .500 and also have more home games left than any other team.

Assuming the Reds win the Central, that leaves the Cards battling the Pirates, Braves, Mets, Dodgers, etc for one of those two WC spots. Should be a pretty damn interesting Sept.

Bullpen is dead....Too many close games. Motte/Boggs/Mujica overworked. Those three have done well. The rest have sucked. I like what I've seen out of Rosenthal and Miller. Two possible studs there.

The bullpen makes me cry. It was the same last year but somehow they got their shit together in the playoffs.

It's weird, I almost don't even want us to win because our bullpen is just that fucking embarrassing. I mean, closing out a game just seems so intrinsic to being a good team and being well coached. It's like if a football team I cheer for doesn't play defense well. And it's not JUST the bullpen. It really seems like if the game is close after the 6th inning than the hitters just shut down and stop producing.

It is incredible how this team just turns on the switch in October. The bullpen was complete garbage all season and now they are like unhittable. Must have a golden horseshoe stuck up someone's ass on that team.
