Merril Hoge getting all nitpicky like a douche about Chris Johnson and the holes he picks in which to run through

i guess i get that he's employed by ESPN because he "knows football" and he can dissect game tape, but god damn, 95% of the time he just comes off an as asshole who says things so he can get more face time

He got in an argument with Schefter the other day about Tebow and kept calling him "son". You could tell Schefter was thinking he was a gigantic fucking idiot the entire time.

I never really paid much attention to Hoge in the past, I know he's been around for a couple years, just seems like he's really cranking up the douchebag this year. He's quickly becoming my least favorite analyst

i hope everyone also saw the segment, (forgot who he was with) where the guy goes

"here we are with hoge and his bold predictions, and for those watching these ARE EDUCATIONAL statements and not simply attention craving choices that hoge makes"

...something along those lines. even espn has to defend his ass

W/o reading anything but the link I would guess Jemiele Hill had something to do with this... I use to actually enjoy the sports reporters until she sarted showing up.

Ok, well I was wrong. Apparently ESPN has found some more "journalists" to play the race card...
Quote :
"I mean, who would this white Vick be? [...] When you alter his race, it's like those Back to the Future movies where someone goes back in time, inadvertently changes one small thing about his parents' dating history and then the person starts to disappear. If Vick had been born to white parents, you wouldn't even be reading this right now. That Vick would have had radically different options in life compared with the Vick who grew up in the projects of Newport News, Va., where many young black men see sports as the only way out.

BC? all they have is a running back. and no Clemson? they're retarded.

did anyone catch Terrelle Pryor's junk flopping all over the place yesterday? they showed him working out with the Raiders, running the 40 in tight ass boxer briefs. it was quite graphic, and i don't expect to see that while flipping channels.

There is some serious LOL in that thread.

Also heard on his radio show tonight that Brian Kenny is leaving to join the MLB Network. Not really a Brian Kenny fan or anything, but he was alright on BBTN for a couple years.

I don't get it

Those are just the regular team pages with stupid titles

Nothing on the level of getting in bed with a university by creating a dedicated TV network then promoting telecasts on that network over similarly meaningless games. A&M is gonna clown all these fools.

[Edited on September 1, 2011 at 6:12 PM. Reason : ok, they're a little more involved than regular team pages. Buckeyes will get one soon, don't fear]

they won't be giving a big ten team a page anytime soon. See:

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-07-01/sports/ct-spt-0701-big-ten-nebraska--20110701_1_commissioner-jim-delany-john-wildhack-espn-officials

That's part of the reason any negative news about OSU (see: today's 1 game suspensions) are front page links whereas shit like Miami gets lost after 2 days.

And how the hell is it kosher for them to use current college players in their sportscience segments?

"ESPN, NFL agree to eight-year deal
ESPN and the NFL announced an eight-year rights extension on Thursday that will keep Monday Night Football on ESPN through 2021 and will increase the number of NFL-related shows on the network significantly.

The agreement, which begins in 2014 at the end of the current deal, also includes more broadband rights for ESPN.com and ESPN mobile platforms, increased international rights and the option to carry a wild-card playoff game on ESPN if the NFL decides to.

The agreement includes 17 Monday Night Football games a season through 2021, an additional 500 hours of new NFL-branded studio programming (beginning immediately), extra highlights on all platforms, coverage of the Pro Bowl and NFL draft, the ability to show Monday Night Football and NFL studio programming on the WatchESPN app, and rights for ESPN Deportes and international networks, including regular season, playoff games and the Super Bowl in 144 countries.

ESPN first agreed to a deal with the NFL in 1980 to cover the draft. It started covering regular-season games in 1987 with Sunday Night Football and moved to Monday Night Football in 2006. Eight of the top 10 programs in cable history (excluding breaking news) were NFL games on ESPN.

"Today, we've secured cable's most valuable television franchise, along with an enhanced international package of year-round multimedia rights," said ESPN/ABC Sports president George Bodenheimer. "It will help grow our business well into the next decade. No one has the breadth of worldwide media assets or the ability to monetize a property the way ESPN can, particularly with Monday Night Football and our complete NFL coverage."

Among the immediate additional NFL offerings on ESPN will be an extra hour of Sunday NFL Countdown, beginning at 10 a.m. ET on Sept. 11. In addition, NFL Live will expand to an hour each day throughout the year, beginning at 4 p.m. ET.

A new daily show -- "NFL 32" -- debuts on Tuesday, Sept. 13 on ESPN2. Suzy Kolber and Chris Mortensen, along with other analysts, will dissect the biggest topics of the day from all 32 NFL teams.

"NFL Kickoff" begins on Friday, Sept. 16 on ESPN2, and will help set up the weekend with a look at every matchup.

"Audibles," which debuted on a limited-run basis last year, will be a Thursday night staple on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET and will feature new ESPN NFL analyst Jerry Rice along with Steve Young, Keyshawn Johnson, Herm Edwards and Trent Dilfer.

There will be additional NFL highlights on nearly 30 additional ESPN shows, plus ESPN.com and Mobile ESPN.com.

"We are proud to extend our three-decade partnership with ESPN," said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. "We have come a long way together since ESPN first televised the NFL draft in 1980. With this new agreement we are excited about the opportunity to take the NFL-ESPN partnership to innovative new heights in serving the most passionate fans in sports."

Radio promo for UGA vs USC game this weekend:

"South Carolina coming off a big win at home will play..."

First off when it is a big win for an SEC team to beat a Conference USA team. Secondly they did not play at home jackasses. ESPN sucks off football non-stop, at least try and be accurate with your football reporting/promos since you've already given up giving two shits about every other sport.

Your new Ultimate Qb rating continues to baffle me

Cam Newton: 27/46, 374 yards, 1TD/1INT, 2 rushing TD.... ESPN QBR: 42.4

Matt Moore: 17/26, 167 yards, 0 TD/1INT.... ESPN QBR: 50.0

hahaha i came in here to post that

Quote :
"I’ll unignore the Total QBR long enough to point out that I have found justification for ignoring it: Under the Total QBR, Tim Tebow performed better on Sunday than Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers, whose Packers won at the Georgia Dome, completed 26 of 39 passes for 396 yards and two touchdowns. His Total QBR was 82.1.

Tebow, whose Broncos lost at home to the Chargers, completed four of 10 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. And he ran the ball six times for 38 yards and a touchdown. And his Total QBR was 83.2.

So, yeah, I’ll continue to ignore ESPN’s Total QBR stat."

I have no idea what this QBR stat is based on. But it's obviously weighted very heavily on yards per carry. Which is an EXCELLENT stat to judge a QB on

^ Doesn't it over weigh stats like 4th quarter stuff and close game stats? Either way it is a horrible stat and ESPN should admit that it sucks and let it die.

^^^you're probably pissed because he rails on soccer and never mentions lacross.

and that he doesn't talk about sports, he talks about things people actually care about. if you want simple minded homer-speak, drop right on by to 620AM. i'm sure they haven't made enough excuses about cam newton sucking at winning despite passing for a billion yards in a pass happy league where everyone throws for a billion yards.

herd is $$$. would esspinn have him on if people didn't listen? so yes, i listen. he's awesome. suck it homer radio.
