Just saw Grizzly Bear. It was pretty much what you would expect from a Grizzly Bear concert.

they are playing here in May and I have still yet to see them. i don't even know what the current make up of the band is, but I would still love to see that act live.

I am planning to try and go to that May show as well. I have seen them 2X. Once in Charlotte back when Miss Machine came out and it was a really solid show. The 2nd time was around 2009 at The Brewery of all places and was one of the absolute best shows I have ever been to. It was a small-venue warmup tour for new drummer Billy Rymer (who is still in the band). Songs from just about every album and EP they've ever done and basically the same lineup they have now.

The current lineup is the Miss Machine live lineup (2004), except for original drummer Chris Pennie who left in 2007. The lead guitarist has been in the band for all 16 years, vocalist has been there for 12, and bass player has been there for 13. In other words, it's still totally worth checking them out as most of the current lineup has probably been with them the majority of the time you've listened to them.

^Your loss. They are not a "regular" Scandinavian metal band. The lead singer loves Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, and the music shows, as it has a lot of rockabilly and other influences. I can't recommend one particular song from the new album, but as an example of how different they sound I give you a couple of my favorites:

Sad Man's Tongue:
http://youtu.be/5mV_HHL-h6g

Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood:
http://youtu.be/d27opCCfhXQ

Still Counting:
http://youtu.be/D0TCBMusT8c

Obviously not for everybody, but when I first heard them on XM back in 2008 I had no clue they were a Danish band until I got home and looked them up.

i'll check it out later. I have nothing against metal, one of my close friends is a huge metal guy so I have an appreciation for it. just not a genre I seek out. but i'll give it a listen today.

it'll be quite the shift from this new Dawes album

EDIT: Holy crap, i was completely wrong about Volbeat. i'm 4 songs into the album and completely digging this sound. It's not "metal" like I was anticipating it would be. Great hooks, really interesting vibe, and I love the vocals. I think I just assume metal will be inaudible screaming

Not really sure why you're obsessed with the asinine nature of that Accidental Redneck song or whatever. It's to win back the "I listen to anything but rap and country" crowd, duh.

it's definitely not Creed, but they have a familiarity in the vocal arrangements that I can't put a finger on.

okay, the lead singer may not sound exactly like Scott Stapp, but he's got a similar voice inflection

also, just randomly looked at Scott Stapp's wikipedia page and found this weird nugget of info:

Quote :
"In a promotional appearance in support of his new memoir, Stapp explained on a VH-1 television show that he had attempted suicide in Miami and that the rapper T.I. had saved him. It is not immediately clear when this occurred, though Stapp implied it had taken place well after 2004"

That's probably the real one, I'm a little underwhelmed too, still better than all the leaks imo, but I've heard the parts of it more than a thousand times, guess I was just hoping for a 10 minute vocoder-a-thon, but oh well, there's only every other song on the album to look forward to.

Didn't like the new Cudi album too much when I first heard it, but haven't stopped listening to it the last week. Not a huge fan of having 3/18 tracks being instrumentals, and another 2-3 ish basically being tracks that feature Cudi, but it mixes a lot of different sounds. A few of them are more what I hoped WZRD would be like.
