Yes; I flew back to DC that night, then returned to LA the following Tuesday, which was the next day they taped.

I was actually really upset about this. They require you to use the city of your current residence. I tried to argue, look, nobody in DC gives a shit; back in Sophia, NC, this would be a big deal; they said sorry, it's gotta be where we mail the check. And I want that check.

No, I'm just slow. I eventually learned I couldn't wait for the visual signal, I had to wait until Alex was on the second to last syllable. If my brain told my hand to ring in then, I had even odds of getting in on time. But most of the time, most of the contestants know the answer. That said, I think I won based on a handful of questions the others didn't know (lutefisk, Isle of Man, etc.)

You don't get the check until 90 days after the air date, so I haven't gotten any money or bought shit.

The wedding is paid; after taxes and student loans, there will probably be enough left over from tonight to buy a nice dinner.

^^Yeah, they mentioned that now people don't walk out and meet Alex on the floor. I don't remember when exactly it changed, but I believe it had to do with accommodating disabled players (like Eddie Timanus, who is blind and won five consecutive games back when that was the most they'd let you do).

You hear my then-fiancee scream, which Alex references; when he came up to shake my hand after the game, he asked who she was and I explained that we'd be getting married the weekend before the episode aired. He said, "I bet that, even now, she is thinking of ways to make your wedding more expensive." It wasn't true, but I laughed; and when I told the fiancee, she was pissed.

Nice job! It was a tense match! You played it smart. I chuckled on the Sam Shepard answer (he was great in The Right Stuff), but otherwise you tore it up. Much different answering the questions under pressure, I'm sure. GG on lutefisk!
