We’re beyond a peaceful transition of power when fascists are free roaming the Capitol building accessing unsecured computers of the speaker of the house. The whole network infrastructure needs to be scrubbed now, they can’t safely start working there today. There’s supposedly a backup chamber somewhere for congress to convene, they need to vote to remove Trump. He’s not going to deescalate.

In a way we are getting a good end to trump. He’s personally discredited on a bipartisan basis, people who’ve worked with him are pariahs, you can call his supporters terrorists without too much pushback, his businesses and children will likely suffer for a long time, he’s brought down a few other senators and reps with him, the gop is tarnished for a generation, he’s still subject to prosecution for other past crimes.

The main negative is 5 ppl had to die, and we still have the possibility of some of these yokels creating a long term terrorist threat similar to the weather underground or other types or groups. I think a more remote chance of a bigger threat like the IRA is still possible.

What cemented this for me is a close friend who was a vocal trump supporter finally admitting he is a bad person that needs to be impeached and removed. This only happened after the Capitol attack. I think that (combined with strained relationships) pushed a lot of trump supporters firmly into hating Trump, and willing to be public about it.
