I have thought of that exact episode of The Simpsons in regards to Trump before.

Great Simpsons episode, love when the doc tries to draw blood but the needle goes through Burns' arm, and he says "Try the left arm, I think I saw some blood in there the other day"

they are not the same. one person is talking about doing this sort of thing and one has been doing it for 8 years without talking about it. It basically comes down to if you wanna have bad things happen and not hear about them, have bad things happen and hear about them, or not have bad things happen at all.

shame or attempt to keep a key voting demographic from getting complacent/keeping them politically active?

and after 8 years, one would think you'd shy away from the "real Obama" tag

[Edited on September 20, 2016 at 11:40 AM. Reason : kind of a loaded term, in all the wrong ways]

I didn't mean to imply that there is a hidden vs real Obama - he is what he is. I was just responding to the previous comment regarding "the Obama that showed up at the UN."

But do you not find it shameful to essentially say "Black people, vote for Hillary because I like her, and I'm black."

Not sure why it's in then thread but I seriously believe Obama believes what he says and wanted things to be very different but got beaten down into playing the game.

Turns out the game is just more of the same Bush and Clinton before him in a lot of areas.

^ that's an interesting interpretation of his words. He would have every right to say "vote for her because the other guy has a proven track record of giving even less of a fuck about you than she does."

That's what I'm saying - implore people to vote for her on her record. Not his skin color. But he's using it. Just like he used it in his own election.

let's take a look at what he said:

Quote :
"He said it would be a "personal insult" to his legacy if black voters did not turn out on Election Day for Hillary Clinton"

for 8 years, assholes have been saying, "Obama only won because he's black and tons black people voted for him"

if the black turnout for Hillary is substantially less than for Obama, that will give those same assholes an excuse to say that

so of course what he said isn't shameful. it's the truth.

I believe voter turnout for Hillary will be lower in general. For Obama, everyone voting for him felt like they were voting for a part of history. That impact won't be quite as large here. Yes, she's a female, and would be the first female president, but I guarantee you that in the minds of many, that won't carry as much weight.

So if overall voter turnout by Democrats is lower, I don't think it will validate people's claims that Obama won because he's black.

way to assume that everyone voting for a candidate only did so because they wanted to pat themselves on the back

that why he won a second term?

and the people who think he only won because of black people don't give a fuck about overall voter turnout

Obama won because Oprah backed him. You can dive further into her specific reasoning, but in the end, I say he wouldn't have beaten Hillary in the 2008 Democratic Primary without that endorsement.

this is why trump supporters are voting trump:
Quote :
"Do you think the Clintons have never jeopardized America's security? Do you think the Clintons have never lied to citizens of America? Do you not think Hillary has committed illegal crimes and should be in prison? Do you think destroying official government property is a felony? The other week when Hillary fainted or went weak kneed, she had all sorts of security running to rescue her and carry her to safety, do you think the 4 men in Bengazi who begged for help, for hours, deserved help? Did she lie to their families AND to all of us on television that it was a riot over a movie, but told her daughter it was an attack? Do you think Hilliary should of been involved with the Clinton foundation, which receives contributions from foreign countries, while she was a servant of OUR government? Do you think the Clintons' tax deductible charity contributions were to their foundation and their foundation is one of the largest contributors for her campaign, is an acceptible act? In your opinion, do you think We The People will be safer without guns, and they, the government with all the guns and power? Do you think its a good idea to have the government control your health and decide what they will and will not cover and who gets help and who does not? Do you think the government has stole from yours and my Social Security funds and given money, health care, free housing, free phones, food stamps, etc. etc. to undeserving lazy bums? Do you think it strange that they tell us the S.S. funds are running out but have never mentioned welfare funds getting low? Do you think illegal people should be supported and have the right to vote in a country of laws? Does it scare you to hear democrats laughing at We The People when some of us were crying for the democratic majority congress and senate to read the 'affordable health care plan' before they signed it? Would you sign a contract before you read it? REALLY? Would you laugh at me if I wrote up a thousand page contract, legal, binding contract and asked you to sign it without reading it? Did you laugh when the all democratically ran branches laughed as they signed bills, without having one clue what they were signing? Did you read it? Do you think it is wonderful that health care is no longer affordable and millions are uninsured and being taxed as a penalty and yet, those who are here illegally, pay no taxes and are completely cared for by your money, if indeed you work. Do you think taxation without representation is a good thing? Would you let anyone into your house, not knowing them? Would you let them eat your families food, sleep in your bed and take your families incomes? Do you ever think about America as YOUR home, YOUR country? Why would you think Clinton would help you get the intruders out of your house if she laughs and scoffs at We The People who want to put walls and security on OUR HOME, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? She has security, do you deserve less than any other person? I do not think so. I believe you have the same rights as any other person in this country and should be loud and proud to defend your rights as an American, if you are a legal citizen of America, a country of laws and rights. A country where criminals pay the consequences of their choices and are punished. We are quickly becoming a country so divided and so full of hatred that all the Clintons talk about are We The People who are 'deplorable' because we wish to see a positive change, not another 20 trillion dollars of debt that will enslave your children and their children and their children which will hate you and I for sitting by and doing nothing while America is finally destroyed from those in DC that laugh at you and me because We The United States of America are no longer a nation under GOD, but will be under the governments' control. We are no longer indivisible and soon we will have no liberty, no justice for anyone. Who ever you are that replied to my comment will have to answer all these questions for yourself. Your opinions do not matter to me, personally, but they matter to you and your family and to all We The People, For The People. You can lie to me, no big deal but if you are honest with yourself, you will see that the Clintons want 8 more years of the same we have had for the past 8 years and then you and I will not have the right to discuss any controversial topics. Everything will be censored and if I don't submit to their dictatorship, I will be punished severly because free speech will not be allowed. They've already got that in place with all this 'politically correct' words and calling me 'reproachable' is not offensive, but me not liking Obama's direction, policies and/or failures means I'm racist, or if I don't vote for Hillary, I'm a feminist and don't believe in women's rights? If you disagree with me, or you a racist or a feminist? Do you believe women should have the right to decide who lives and dies? For that reason alone, you should not want a woman in OUR white house."

I tried to read it, basically says all the things most people say about Hillary that are bad, in a huge wall of text. Again we all realize Clinton is pretty unfavorable across the country but still a better option than Trump unfortunately. At some point we as Americans are gonna have to look back on this election and ask ourselves how we got to the point that these were our two choices and hope we never make that mistake again.

All you really have to do is look at how Hillary is underperforming Obama in places with a higher percentage of non-college educated whites, and overperforming him where there is a lower percentage. The former is the reason why places like OH, IA, NV, and ME-2 are closer than you'd expect or even leaning Trump. The latter is why PA, NH, VA, and CO appear totally out of reach for Trump.

NC would be solid blue in this election if it was 2020.

Read an interesting fact that with 3.2mm rural residents in NC it is only behind Texas. However, with most of the influx going to the more diverse and educated urban areas in the state, this is likely the last time the GOP is competitive in a national election here (without a really shit D candidate or a major shift in attitude from the GOP itself).

A post I made in chit chat regarding Trump and fascism, tweaked slightly.

[quote]Trump's supporters believe there is an economy in the dumpster, everybody, mostly working-class citizens pissed off and angry, then out of the blue comes some guy who can really get to the working people of the world.

But here's the big difference between Hitler and Trump. Things were actually going pretty well in Germany (disclaimer: things were NOT going well in Germany for Jews - I'm talking about the country overall). Their economy was picking up, jobs were being created, and peoples lives were getting better (again, except for Jews). Had Hitler decided to not become a murderous real-life super villain, he may have actually gone down in the history books as a political leader who turned things around.

But instead he turned out to be a super-villain. Please don't take my post as support for Hitler, as it is certainly not. Just pointing out that Trump may actually be worse than pre-WWII Hitler.

If Trump were elected, I don't see anything changing for the better in this country. We still get the fascism, without the better economy.

Man, did you even read my post? I'm talking about pre-war Germany. And in pre-war Germany, things were bad for Jews, but it had not reached Holocaust levels. So don't just see who made a post (rjrumfel) and try to blast it because you don't like the poster. I'm not reducing anything there, other than reducing Trump to be a fascist.

Why in God's name would anyone purposefully reduce the death of millions into a set of parenthesis. I can't begin to comprehend what would make you think something like that. Prejudice? That's the only thing I can come up with.

Shitty candidates and a government that doesn't care about the people. Also, the press and social media helped. ABC absolutely loves Clinton and hates the rest of the candidates. That is the one they want to win. I feel like Sanders never had a fair chance because of the media's lovefest for Clinton. Trump made it this far because he doesn't represent the status quo. A lot of people want someone in Washington who might actually give the middle finger to the world and not have too much fun playing politics.

the candidates are a reflection of the people. they don't really care what happens as long as the other side loses. no one actually likes either of these candidates theyjust don't know enough to realize there are more options. they don't understand how the system works or what the candidates policies are. 70% don't even know more candidates exist
