yeah that install.bat file needs your actual windows login information.

if it won't let you put in a blank password you'll probably have to start using a windows password for your User account...even something simple like a single character should do it.

You could also set up an admin account that you don't use(with a password)...then use that account info in the install.bat file if you really don't want a windows password...you can even setup windows to auto-login to that User account so you don't have to stop at the Welcome screen.

found this:
Quote :
"The main problems that people have with the Windows SMP client are :

1: Not installing from the Administrator account in Vista or account with Administrative privileges in XP/2000
2: Not having an actual password (a blank password does not work)
3: Answering YES to 'Use IE Settings'. You must answer NO to this.
4: Trying to run as a service: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1031419765
5: Not putting the same user name and password in FAH that you have for the Administrator Account (or account with Administrative privileges in XP/2K). These must match exactly.
6: Not having a full time network connection. This doesn't have to be a full time internet connection as long as it is connected to a router and an IP address.
7: You must answer yes to the >5 MB downloads option"

^nope.

btw, Saturday me and the misses posted some FAH flyers covered brickyard (eating area) and the tritower/bragaw/lee/sullivan dorms. didn't really plaster them around but there are like 3 or 4 per board. hopefully some people bite? I dunno. it seems like ncsu has tightened down certain posting boards on campus requiring approval (example bragaw's).

WANT AN OINK INVITE???

In effort to help our NCSU folding@home team, I'm offering an Oink invite for anyone who can produce 3,000 Points Per Day for at least a week for our team (and hopefully continue after that too!). Just install a small application on some PCs/Servers/PS3s and you'll get there in no time.

I currently have two invites to offer to the first two people who can achieve this, but there will be more soon once my ratio improves Be sure to PM me before your production ramps up so I can be sure you are who you say you are. Also this isn't not open to current team members who produce a ton of points but I plan to try and offer some to those people too once my ratio improves.

they shoudl get the hpc folks to put some of their processors to work on this at non-peak times of the years (breaks, weekends, etc) that would catch us up quick.

^^

heres a good site for those kind of questions: http://fahinfo.org/index.php?avgscores=true

Just filter based on what you know. Sometimes it helps to look up the name of the core...but in this case most the Celeron D's listed there are Prescott core, so you can go off of that. Looks like you can expect 100-120PPD from a celeron D. Might not sound like a huge amount, but add a few clients here and there and you really start getting some points (just ask 30thAnnZ)

idk bout yall, but my new SMP client hangs up alot more then the older one did this one will go for days at a time fine, then for 2 or 3 days straight it will lock up every 5-10% and i have to restart it. The old one would lock up maybe once a week twice tops.

hm, my smp client at home never locks up...the old one didn't and the new one doesn't. i read a post by the guy who developed the smp application, and he said the only thing that changed in the new version was he updated the expiration date of client.

what OS, processor and how much ram are you running? Overclock?
did you reinstall the smp when the new one came out...or did you just replace the exe?

This is a permissions issue.

1) Did you run install.bat? its found in the install folder. You have to enter your Windows login info there (or the login info of any Admin account...and you have to use a password on the windows account you enter there.) Look at the top of this page for more information on the install.bat...

2) If that doesn't work, let us know what OS you're running.

FYI, for general troubleshooting:
http://fahwiki.net/index.php/CoreStatus_codes

Thats normal. SMP workunits can take awhile to complete. I have an older dual-core proc, a 2.8ghz Pentium-D and it takes ~1.5 days to complete a work unit...but those work units are worth 1500+ points so its worth it. As long as you can complete the work units under the 4 day deadline, you'll be getting the most points from SMP work units.

Quote :

Cool, welcome to the team Are you going to try running the SMP work units overnight? If so, how many hours are you going to have the client running and what exact processors are in those machines? I'm curious if you'll be able to complete the work units by the strict deadline...I suspect you will but I'm just curious how you're setting this up.

I'll post the exact details when I get everything up and running.

We have 3 storage servers that usually sit idle overnight that have 2, dual core Opterons each. Then we have some quad, dual core Xeon servers that I might be able to recruit into overnight duty as well. The hours I run and on what machines will be a little variable because sometimes we leave large data processing jobs to run overnight. Crunching through terabytes of radar and satellite data has to come before F@H. I'm looking to set up the jobs to run from about 10pm to 6am. I'll start on one machine and scale up from there depending on if and how everything works.

that sounds like a good plan.

keep in mind that the folding processes run at the lowest priority so any thing with a higher priority than that (pretty much everything) takes precedence and gets unrestricted access to the processor...but i could understand you not wanting FAH to run alongside production systems like the ones you mentioned

I think their info is a bit off.

I mainly created the site as a way to organize useful info for the team. It's not the most glamorous. I switched to WordPress about a year ago just to keep it simple. I have not had a lot of time to keep it current, but if anyone has something they want added or changed, let me know. At one time I think Prospero had some .info domains, but I don't think they work anymore.

honestly for $400 you'd be better off building budget C2D boxes that avg 1500ppd

ps3's have more processing power, but don't equal the same number of points as C2D's

I think it would be a good idea to think about moving to something like ECU has...with menu bar at the top and separate pages. Anyone think thats a good/bad idea? I probably wouldn't be the best at putting it together but I'm willing to give it a shot. Anyone really good with web design? I'm thinking some template like they have would be a good start.

guys, i don't mind hosting it, i have add-on domains i'm not using on my web host, and I don't mind paying for the domain, nor setting it up (i have a history of web design as my hobby)

just let me know what domain you want to use.

or maybe KRUZNBY can do the same... i can also just pay for the domain and have it forward to the current site.

the .info domains i had were only for 1year b/c i got them for free... it was http://www.foldingatncsu.info
