now that the rule about staying on topic has been posted...i'd advise it.
further more, this topic isnt dead. this topic is to discuss state recruiting not Lowe's coaching.

This thread, while slow, isn't dead. How could it be, when recruiting is an ongoing thing....
And since when is the lack if posts in a thread reason enough to be able to wander randomly off topic ad naseum. That's some shit chat material....

So which one would you rather have, Cousins or Favors?

so someone tell me what the deal is with Cousins. Did he open up recruiting for any particular reason? The way everyone was getting excited it sounded like we were high on his list and he was opening up his recruiting for us...

He wants a guarantee that Mike Davis will be his coach. He won't sign his LOI (which is optional anyways) unless he has a written guarantee from UAB he can be released if Mike Davis is no longer the coach.

Good for him as LOI are optional. Especially if you are as good as him its good to keep options open will teams will make room for him. He can accept a scholarship without signing his LOI.

how did we get into the mix with him? were we trying to get him to back out of his LOI?

He opened up his recruitment. He has not signed a LOI and refuses to unless he gets guarantees. He verbaled to UAB but has backed off that stance a little bit. Seems very loyal to Mike Davis.

You cannot back out of a LOI once its signed. Its not even run by the ncaa.

Good Info on Cousins and his LOI problem here.

What? Show me where those kids made demands prior to signing with Calipari. I would much rather have a kid with less talent and quality character than someone who has all the talent and is very likely to accept large gifts which would have our program in trouble after his one-and-done season. Of course this statement is an assumption that he would do those types of things. But someone making demands prior to signing is clearly only worried about himself. He won't give a shit of the basketball program at a college gets in an trouble from the NCAA for his action. He will be in the NBA by then.

Well if we get the great players and win a couple of national championships and become a darling program of the NCAA like UCLA, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, etc. we won't have to worry about NCAA sanctions b/c they wouldn't want to risk losing one of their bigger cash cows.

I think him asking the school to release him is fine. There is a fresh at Arizona who went to play for Lute and then he retired and Arizona forced him to come for a year.

It isn't fair that coaches move all the time and the players are stuck with the school.

I think it is far worse for these schools to hire their AAU or high school coach to their staff to ensure the players come.

ex) James Harden at Ariz St
ex) It started with Jalen Rose and Chris Webber at Michigan

why do people post shit like this?

There have been no reports that he isn't a character player except that he had a rough childhood. Is he a bad character because he wants out of his LOI IF and only IF his coach isn't at the school anymore?

Point being...he didn't sign, so its a moot point. Where's your evidence?

I didn't say he IS a poor character individual. I said he SEEMS like a poor character kid. The 'evidence' for my subjective statement is in the previously posted article.

More Visitors For Cousins
by Dave Telep of Scout.com, December 9, 2008 at 5:22pm ET

DeMarcus Cousins Profile

The big boys are starting to hit up DeMarcus Cousins even more this week.

The Birmingham (Ala.) Leflore senior center was visited last week by Memphis coach John Calipari. This week, Calipari dispatched assistant Josh Pastner. Cousins has a game on Tuesday and in addition to Pastner, Louisville's Rick Pitino and N.C. State assistant Larry Harris will be in attendance.

UPDATE: Pitino had to cancel the visit and Baylor made the trip. "

http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=9&c=2&cid=819816&nid=2619228&fhn=1

word is going around right now that Cousins will come to NCSU if everything fails with Davis.
Cousins mother doesnt want him in Birmingham at UAB due to some crappy past history which i dont really know a lot about. Davis also wants out at UAP ASAP. DC is really close to Mike Davis and wants to follow him but that is not a guarantee that it will happen.

We are investing a lot of time with this kid so it appears.

Yeah I know ncsu has hired coaches for recruiting purposes. I just don't like the idea of it. But recruiting is so crucial to your success I can't blame the coaches.

If you think that article makes him sound like a poor character individual, you have a skewed sense of reality. Yes, he has UAB by the balls, but he made it known that he wants to play for Mike Davis. Thats no different than Larry Davis and Dan Werner getting out of their LOI's when Herb left, except that we allowed them to do so, UAB will not.

If anything I give the kid props because he basically is trying set up a safety net before he jumps. Nothing wrong with that. Just from reading the article, we may see more kids doing this sort of thing.

While I'll go ape-shit if either one of these guys commits, if it was between one or the other, I'd definitely go with Favors. From everything I've seen (which granted, isn't a whole lot), he seems like the better player, and definitely the better defender. And he just seems like a real good guy. Quiet and humble. Keep that Georgia-pipeline flowing.

But again, I'd be ecstatic if we got either.

I doubt Ryan will get a big head. He plays with confidence, but isn't cocky. Also his mom seems like she'll keep him grounded and cares about academics.

me and some friends went to the word of god game friday night to check out cj and wall and it was the best five bucks ive spent in a long time. the whole game was highlight reel material. i definitely understand what all the hype is about wall. he controls the game when hes in and has a great time doing it. CJ and him were a nice duo. its sad to think that even if wall decides to stay in raleigh, we wont get to see him and cj together because he'll surely be leaving for the draft after the 09/10 season.

Melvin Tabb's mom graduated from State. I feel that if we offered and showed improvement then we would have a good chance at landing him. Baylor, Clemson, Wake Forest, South Carolina, and ECU have extended early offers.

Where would you like to see Derrick Favors play college basketball?
Georgia 4.95% 519
Georgia Tech 13.74% 1440
Memphis 0.84% 88
North Carolina State 79.23% 8306
