Quote from last post of previous page:

Quote :
"Breaking: NC Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin just conceded the election - six months, and three rounds of vote tallies, after he lost.

Our office led the legal defense of this election, pushing back against an effort to throw out tens of thousands of lawful votes.

But let’s be clear - this never should have happened.

There was no sound legal basis for trying to change the rules after the fact. From the beginning, it was an attempt to twist the law to reverse the outcome of a legitimate election.

And it put tens of thousands of lawful votes at risk - including ballots from military servicemembers and long-time North Carolinians who followed the rules and voted lawfully.

This attack didn’t work, but there’s a real risk that other losing candidates might try the same attack in the future.

We will always defend your right to vote - and the lawful outcomes of elections.

I’m deeply proud of the attorneys in my office who fought to protect those votes - and won.

Congratulations to Justice Allison Riggs. The rule of law held. The will of the voters was upheld.

- Jeff Jackson"

https://www.wral.com/story/nc-lawmakers-rush-through-changes-limiting-governor-s-power-to-pick-prosecutors/22004853/

Quote :
"In a meeting that drew transparency concerns, state lawmakers weren't shown copies of the bill they'd be asked to vote on until four minutes beforehand.

...

"When the constitution says the governor may fill these vacancies, it does not leave room for the legislature to take that power and give it to someone else," Rubin said. "... I think courts should strike this down if we pass it, but we shouldn't give them that chance. We shouldn't bring a bill forward that violates the North Carolina Constitution and separation of powers."

Stein is currently suing the legislature, citing similar constitutional arguments, over a different law restricting his power to fill judicial vacancies and more.

...

The meeting wasn't announced until less than an hour before it began. Many of the lawmakers who serve on the committee weren't able to make it there. And during debate over the bill it became clear that at least some lawmakers hadn't read the latest version of the bill, which had been rewritten just prior to the meeting.

That newly rewritten version of the bill was emailed to the lawmakers who serve on the committee just four minutes before the meeting began.

The legislature has chosen to give itself very few rules for transparency and notice. Tuesday's meeting violated even the barebones rules that do exist.

However, there are also no consequences for state lawmakers when they break their self-imposed rules -— something that Rep. Allison Dahle, D-Wake, noted at the start of Tuesday's meeting.

"I want it on the record that this is not how business should proceed," said Dahle, who serves as vice chair of the committee. "This is not how government should proceed, and I am offended. I think my other colleagues are offended as well.""

He doesn't want to put himself through a nasty primary fight and what right now must look like probably defeat in the general, especially if Cooper gets in. Good riddance.

I worry if cooper is the right choice though if Tillis isn’t running. The electorate is meaningfully different now than a few years ago. My gut says dems need to run a young person with energy.

Maybe now Tillis can try to do what's right instead of what's politically convenient for his future prospects.

If the dems don't fuck it up, they will win the nc senate seat in 2026

THOM TILLIS torches Trump’s big bill in a fiery Senate floor speech: “So what do I tell 663,000 people in 2-3 years when President Trump breaks his promise by pushing them off Medicaid?” He says “amateurs” advising Trump are conflating health care policy with “waste, fraud and abuse.”"

I’ve seen enough now to suspect NC Auditor Dan Boliek is a piece of shit political hack and deserving of no benefit of the doubt.

He audited the Town of Woodfin and insinuated corruption in town park design contracts. After the Town Attorney contacted his office and answered the “questions” he had already gotten into media articles, he quietly changed the conclusions of the report:
https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/2025/07/04/nc-auditor-woodfin-report-revised-after-officials-call-it-misleading/84164110007/

He audited Helene relief and found some of the relief sites were real fucking expensive. Maybe the contractors even overcharged? He never actually says that though, but he did make sure to release a report so that the costs are published in media reports, leaving the average idiot to assume they got cheated. The actual conclusion of the Auditor’s report? Contractors need to keep better counts of the numbers of people using the relief sites on a daily basis so the state can be more informed on how much and how long relief is actually needed. That’s it?
https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article307954055.html

He is using a legitimate office and taxpayers dollars to get hatchet job headlines but never actually uncovers fraud, waste, or abuse. It sucks because State Auditor is an office you would think all sides could agree should do legit non-partisan work. But you can always count on the NCGOP to raise the most hackish shitbags to positions of power. Every. Single. Time.

"I will vote for Jessica Holmes for Auditor, although I do not like the fact that she was appointed and had no prior experience. The Libertarian candidate Bob Drach has far more relevant experience than either the Dem or GOP candidate, but in a FPTP system, gotta prioritize keeping the crazy Republicans out. Dave Boliek campaigns on "leading the fight at UNC to eliminate woke DEI policies and he's a committed Christian" so fuck off with that noise"

that race was a lost cause from the beginning. would be helpful if NC Dems would stop forcing terrible candidates on us.

You can blame Jessica Holmes or, like me, you can blame that criminal Beth Wood and her spiteful endorsement of Boliek for losing that race. But the actions of either of these ladies is not why Boliek is a partisan hack and that the general worldview of the entire NCGOP is party over state.

We should follow Boliek’s next 4 years closely ITT and see if we start to see some separation in suckiness tiers. The potential is there for him to get really stupid and ugly.

Also NC Auditor is just an interesting position and now that it has heavy influence on the State Board of Elections its value is set to skyrocket in our current electioneering environment so we should be tracking it anyways.

"suckiness tiers"

to be clear, i'm not saying there's not obvious differences in the level of suckiness between the relevant parties.

what i am mostly saying, is that given the stakes and level of suckiness on the GOP side, it's really important that NC Dems stop putting forward sucky candidates. i have no hope of changing the GOP suckiness, but i do think the Dems can be talked into recognizing and addressing their mistakes.

this was infuriating, although not suprising one bit. it will be interesting to see if/when the Dems ever get an opportunity to fix this power grab, what they'll do with it.
