If voters had elected more Democratic candidates in 2020, the Democratic agenda would likely not be as hung up at this time. 10/28/2021 11:01:01 AM |

Democrats had a supermajority under Obama and did nothing. And there wasn’t even the chance for a supermajority last time (where, again, they would have proven that they are the party of doing nothing.) Manchin and Sinema aren’t the only conservative Democrats out there. They just don’t need anymore opposition at this time. 10/28/2021 11:13:42 AM |

So the solution is to elect less Democrats and more Republicans? 10/28/2021 11:55:02 AM |

There is no great solution in our current political system for individuals without major corporate/media cooperation, other than to advocate in primaries for candidates that appear to be open to actually changing the system. Unfortunately that isn't even fool proof as Sinema appeared pretty far left (for the US anyway) early in her political career but has steadily moved right
Our political choices at a national level right now are "almost nothing/status quo" or "fascism". Fun times

^^ Not at all, but more people need to be willing to admit that the Democratic party isn't our friend and any time they've done anything substantial, it's been because of an existential threat to capitalism (20s-30s) or massive social unrest (50s-60s). It's not about electing more of them - they need to be scared into action. And that reflects very poorly on our political system.

I agree; take, for example, Joe Manchin fighting for all of his billionaire constituents in West Virginia.
On the other hand, a lot of the items in the current Democratic agenda would have been non-starters within the Democratic Party a decade ago. 10/28/2021 1:09:26 PM |

It's bad that Dems lost the governors house. Im not being UJW and implying this is the downfall of the national party, but its objectively bad and will have some long lasting consequences. 11/3/2021 2:21:36 PM |

Huh? I definitely think it's a bad sign that VA now has a GOP governor and that it's even close in NJ, and I definitely feel like suburban white women who voted against Trump showed up to vote against the incumbent, and it definitely seems like this a clear signal that most people aren't happy with Biden and the fact that he's accomplished so little, other than the vaccine rollout. From the exit polls, young folks seemed to sit this one out, and I can see why given how uninspiring of a candidate McAuliffe was.
Also worth noting, many progressive candidates/polices got trounced, so the whole "it's all the centrists Dems fault!" narrative seems kinda weak and doesn't help unite the party around a common cause, but what do I know?
Anyway, none of this is all that surprising-- at least not to me-- but it's definitely disappointing and cause for deep concern. Unless the Dems can actually accomplish SOMETHING between now and midterms, yeah, it's not looking good for 2022.

Did he make any of these predictions going into last night? Seems to me one of the reasons I don't follow Chris Hayes is because everything he says is fueled by hindsight.
Which actually makes him less than a pundit. His usage of Pollyanna there is a little strange too, imo. 11/3/2021 5:59:01 PM |

^^^ I mean at the time, it certainly seemed like good news, given how the media was trying to make it sound like Elder was going to surprise everyone. In hindsight, it may have meant little/nothing at all, but that's the problem with "political science"-- it's basically just Monday morning QBing and looking at things that just happened and trying to readjust predictions. Honestly, all punditry is annoying, but that's the result of a shitty 24/7 news/social media cycle. People are gonna vote however they vote, and predictions don't pan out a lot of the time.

^^i thought the "Dems in disarray" stupidity was counting seats before they finished counting votes? If Dems had lost as many seats as he first draft of that was article had thought, it might have been pretty disarray'ed. What about this? Governor's races are not national races. Why don't the pundits analyze how NC repeatedly votes for Democratic governors and Republican Presidents and Senators within the same elections? When a Democrat wins the race for governor in NC, the media doesn't say Republican national chances are doomed and that the state turned blue. These off-cycle elections are a little hinky. 11/3/2021 7:25:33 PM |

The Dems do suck right now. They need to understand that folks didn't elect their candidates in Nov2020 because they actually liked Dem policy ideas: they elected them because they weren't Donald Trump or his psychopathic lackeys. The only thing the Dems need to do right now is be sane. The opposing party is literally a bunch of fascists. Just he sane!
Nancy Pelosi hijacked a transportation and infrastructure bill that was supported by god damned near everyone, in a time when you can't even get Congress to agree on what fucking day it is. We like our roads and bridges not to fall the fuck down, this shit is a slam dunk! And she couldn't help but smear her feces all over it and play fucking word games that daycare is the exact same as a god damned tunnel, while Biden is demanding every transaction is basically every fucking bank account in the country under the guise of "taxing the rich," cause we all know those bitches have hordes of bank accounts taking in 602bux a year while paying 400bux in bank fees. That's how you got rich, baby!
Just be fucking sane and you can get all these wish list items done over 10 years while the GOP continues to play "fellate the Führer". Or, piss the voters off with your shit and let them go pick the other side again 11/7/2021 11:19:12 PM |
