Sent Club Carlson a pissy email after the hotel accidentally charged my credit card for a night I paid with an ecert.

just got the card and there is no mention of the 100k bonus in any of the materials. Is this normal?
Its also nowhere to be found at http://www.chase.com/reservebenefits
I'm sort of worried they cut it off.

Yeah, they're still offering the 100k bonus.
I'm done with that, will be doing the Marriot Rewards card now which should be arriving in the mail this week. With the bonus and upcoming business travel I should be able to rack up enough points to stay at a pretty nice resort for little to nothing.
I think I'm probably about to do the Starwood Amex and maybe the Ritz Carlton from Chase as well while they're still separate and then combine my points.
May try the visa prepaids --> money orders --> back to my checking --> pay off card strategy and see how that works since there's really nothing else I need to buy. 10/20/2016 10:10:29 PM |

Good to know.
Just got approved for the SPG Amex tonight.
The more I look at it, I may just run through all the hotel cards in the next few months. I've already got a decent chunk of points at a few anyway. 10/20/2016 11:22:21 PM |

What's the better gas cards these days?
Ones I've seen: Penfed - 5%, but its closer to 4% when you redeem BP - 5%, but points expire
What else is out there. Don't want a rotating card. 10/21/2016 3:06:15 PM |

If you have a Sam's Club membership, the Sam's Club Visa gives you 5% on gas I think and like 3% on travel? Something like that. Only downside is that you get a check once a year and I think you have to go to Sam's Club to cash it. Sometimes they have offers when you open it to get 10% on gas for the first year.
I'm debating on using it, but I only have a Sam's membership because it was free through an Amex offer and I'm not sure if I'm willing to commit to keeping it. 10/21/2016 7:27:57 PM |

One option would be to leverage the recent Marriott - Starwood merger and get both the Marriott visa and the spg amex. Then link your Marriott and SPG accounts to transfer points and status (if you have any). 11/13/2016 11:53:06 AM |

Credit card related:
2 weeks ago, someone tried to use my CC # to make a purchase. Thing is, it was reported as an in-store lookup, meaning the employee had to look up my account, which usually requires a SSN. I never saw a charge on my account and the CC company (Synchrony Bank-Sears) called me to ask about the attempted purchase I assume on the day of. The rep I talked to wouldn't confirm if my SSN was used, just that in-store lookups normally require a SSN.
1 week later, someone opens a CC in my name (Synchrony Bank-Walmart) and closes it the same day (at least my credit report says closed by consumer). I called the bank to report the fraud. Again, this would require a SSN. The Walmart Card does show up on my credit report, so I'll dispute that, though the banks says they'll report it to the agencies as fraud, which should remove it from my report anyways. This rep said it could have been a mistake by the employee; though I don't know how an account gets opened if the identifying information doesn't match up.
Any other steps I should take other than the credit alert? Go with a freeze? Anything else? 12/15/2016 10:51:02 AM |

new to the credit card thing. probably a dumb question but i figure it's worth asking anyway. for the chase freedom categories this quarter (dept stores, drug stores, wholesale clubs), does the 5% back count toward gift card purchases for other stores? specifically, if i went to CVS to buy some Target gift cards for Christmas presents do i get the 5%? i'm assuming no, but thought i'd double check. 12/16/2016 7:41:22 AM |
synapse play so hard 60935 Posts user info edit post |
I don't see why you wouldn't get the 5%. It's gonna look like a regular merchandise purchase to Chase. 12/16/2016 11:41:15 AM |

just buy a small one to test if you are worried about it
i wasn't going to use my $300 travel credit this year so i bought a cheap hotel gift card to make sure it worked before buying the balance 12/16/2016 11:52:43 AM |

yeah i'll do it and see if it gets the 5%. got no reason not to buy them....i'm buying them anyway for Christmas gifts, and buying them at CVS is easier for me than going all the way to Target to buy them. 12/16/2016 12:55:49 PM |

Definitely go with the freeze. If you're in NC, there's no fee to freeze/unfreeze so there's basically no reason not to. Well, except you could be dumb like me and lose your equifax pin and have to mail in a photo of your driver's license. But that only took like a week, so not a huge deal.12/16/2016 6:30:07 PM |
