I just got off the phone w/ Tracie with the Atlantic Rescue. She's going to call the shelter and head up there in the morning to give Roco a temperment test (since he snapped this morning) before she pulls him. If he passes, she's going to bring him to us and we're going to take him in a foster. So we will see in the morning.

Roco found a home!!! The lady from Atlantic Rescue just told me there was a very sweet man down the road from the shelter who adopted him today. He has a female rottie who is 13 and she's getting sick so he figured he'd go on and save Roco so a happy ending overall. I think the roomies and I are going to go pull some of the hound/mix puppies who hardly ever et rescued.

Xchick. if we are interested in becoming foster parents, how would we go about that?

Okay if any of you rescue a dog that has heartworms, the perfect place to get the dog treated is an organization that rescues and helps provide low-cost vet care. I think it's around $125 to treat a dog for heartworms. It's in Wilson, which is around an hour away. For the Love of Dogs, URL: http://www.loveofdogs.org; http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NC268.html

And for cheap spay/neuter rescources: http://www.animalkind.org

Colby is undergoing treatment at Pet Sound Animal Hospital starting Saturday July 22. Wish the old guy luck! And wish me luck in the financial side of it

i dont know.
i just got an email saying the rottie is still there. or he never left. the old man never came back for him.
the vet comes early monday morning - around 9 or 10. and if they're full all urgents get put down.

also there
a purebred coonhound
2 dalmation mixes - very cute
tons of black lab mixes - puppies and adults
a beautiful yellow lab - female - she's very nice looking.
2 owner surrendered very sweet white cats. (easy to find homes for with their looks and personalities)

check the site.
if you are interested in one call first thing monday morning at 9am. they might hold it. if they give you a problem pm me. they know my name. and i could possibly transport monday back to raleigh. but i cant keep any animals here.

they're full again
luckily the vet isnt coming tomorow (friday) as planned and will be coming monday morning instead.
but all dogs listed on the site will be put to sleep monday morning unless they are rescued.
with the exception of the the coonhound and rotti have rescue's coming for them.

theres a real cute baby yellow lab mix
a unique looking shep/akita mix pup (around 4 months old)
a real friendly young yellow lab mix female
plus tons of black lab mixes.

there are also 2 baby shep mixes. look horrible, covered in ticks, but their sad faces are almost too much to bear.
they'd all be grateful to be saved.

if you want one let me know
i can transport back to Raleigh/area monday if u cant make it there in time. i work at 5 so the dog would have to be picked up by then.

The rescue I'm with is conducting an adoption event at AniMall (http://www.animall.org). For a list of dogs that will be there, and others that are available for adoption (including 9 remaining of the 11 puppies Rosemary had), go to http://www.soundpet.org.

That white german shepherd looks just like a dog on WRAL slide show. If you click on the weather section on http://www.wral.com and scroll down to the bottom, click on July Pet Pictures. the dog is number 4 out of 98 (number could have increased by now). It says "Lost...Help me find my best friend". I swear it looks like the dog from Franklin County.

i rescued this morning:
the red and white border collie. 7 months old. purebred. up to date on shots. real friendly. smart.
i'm contacting the border collie rescue tomorow.

a female 8 wk old black lab puppy. beautiful.

a female 8 wk old beagle mix puppy. spunky

2 shep mix 8 wk old males. shy but tail waggers.

i already took the 4 puppies to the vet today. checked out fine (other than hookworms - treated)
they had their firsts round of shots and a physical.

they are all available to good homes. adoption fee of $20 to cover (very little) of what i spent on them today at the vet. and i will do a home visit.
i'll upload pictures later. right now they're relaxing after baths and a good meal.

if you're interested let me know.
a pic of the border collie is above.

This thread always makes me teary-eyed...

When I'm not spending so much money on my housing I'm doing this ... a lot. Also, when I move away from campus I'm getting a lot of land for these rascals.

the only time I get really mad is when I find weimaraners in need of homes.

the WCA was created for a reason and that was to insure the saftey and well being of the breed.

I fucking hate puppy mills and vile breeders who do not investigate the families.

can someone PLEASE go and rescue that litter of tiny kittens? we were going to take them, but we realized that our puppy (who wrestles with the cats we already own) would probably be WAY too rough with them.

the shelter is full again and tomorow is friday = vets coming to put animals down

i'm not allowed to look at the website for this shelter anymore (due to teaching now and having an impossible stressed out schedule which doesnt permit me to foster anymore.. waiting till summer)
.. but i checked quickly and there looks to be some great dogs there and a cat.

so please take a look. i'd go save some if i could. i've had great luck finding home through mass emails to all my friends and posting on craigslist. i know of a vet who's really great and you can get a round of puppy shots for like $15. its such a fullfilling feeling to save a life or 2.
