If I was Beck and Kanye tried to get up on my stage, then told me I should give my award to someone else, I'd pretty much say "You know what, Fuck Kanye. It doesn't get under my skin, I think it's entertaining and he should do it at every award show. Every time Beyonce is up for something and doesn't win he should get up and complain, and every time she isn't nominated he she get up and complain, and every time she does win he should get up and complain about how it took so long and that they even dared nominate anyone else.
But if I was someone he interrupted I'd be pissed. 2/9/2015 5:49:07 PM |

Also Beck never said Beyonce should have won, he said he thought she would win.

Really? Are you playing semantics?
Let's see, Beck does nothing wrong except accept an award that's given to him.
Kanye says:
Quote : | "The rapper also said he thought Beck "should've given his award to Beyonce."
"I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more," he told E! After Party, as he was interviewed alongside wife Kim Kardashian." |
and
Quote : | ""And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyonce."" |
Again, Beck did absolutely nothing wrong, but Kanye basically attacked him by telling him he didn't deserve the award and that he should give it back, and you think that the person calling Kanye's actions "savage" is the worst in this situation? That's quite a weird line of reasoning you go there.
(but yeah, saying Kany isn't talented is silly. He's talented. A talented, conceited, arrogant, rude douchebag.)2/10/2015 12:54:01 PM |

Kanye (like most everybody watching the Grammys) was surprised that Beck won for Album of the Year. unlike all of us, he has a platform to say that he thinks the wrong album won. that isn't a personal attack on Beck.
he clarified this exact thing yesterday:
Quote : | "West: Beck know that Beyoncé should have won, you know that.
TMZ: Have you ever heard of Beck before yesterday?
West: Come on, man. I love Beck. But he didn’t have album of the year." |

He's basically saying that Beck isn't a "real artist"
Beck wrote the entire album himself...played every single instrument on the album (I think 14 different instruments)
Beyonce played no instruments...had 24 writers helping her.
The award show is called The Grammys. They aren't called "The Kanyes". Maybe if Kanye isn't happy with the lack of respect for Beyonce's album, then he should host his own award show.
Also I'm pretty sure Beyonce is a grown fucking woman and doesn't need Kanye sticking up for her.
The Kanyes...where every winner is Beyonce.

a) I haven't even commented on the dickishness of it
and
b) it's pretty obvious that he was complaining about the Grammys and not Beck (especially not personally), Beck just happened to be the person who won the award. he would have said the same thing about anyone other than Beyonce.
he pretty much echoed the same sentiment that music critics and music fans have been saying about the Grammys for the better part of 25 years. he was just more brash about it since he does not have any filter whatsoever.

Help me understand this better. What is the sentiment? I assume it's that the Grammy's often don't award people on talent as much as they award people for their popularity. But I don't know because I don't pay much attention to the grammy's, as I don't care for most of the "popular" music that the show centers around. But in this specific case, it seems like the less popular artist beat the more popular artist. And i know it's arguable, but I'd argue that Beck is much more musically talented than Beyonce. She's a great singer and dancer, but Beck is a much better musician, imo. So what exactly is the sentiment that "music critics and music fans" feel about the grammy's, and that Kanye was apparently echoing?2/10/2015 2:17:49 PM |

the Grammys (more specifically the NARAS) are roundly thought of as a bland organization that doesn't reward risk-takers/forward-thinking artists/musicians. just look at how they've treated rap for the last 25 years.
and the award for Album of the Year isn't supposed to go to the person who is more musically talented or can play the most instruments. it's not a lifetime achievement award.
how many instruments did Sinatra/Whitney Houston play? or Mariah Carey or Barbra Streisand. the voice is as much of an instrument as an actual physical instrument.2/10/2015 2:32:49 PM |

So do you agree with Kanye that it was a travesty that Beck won instead of Beyonce? Do you think that by selecting Morning Phase as the album of the year over whatever Beyonce's album is called, it was "diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration,"? Is that what all the music critics think of Morning Phase winning album of the year? Is that what they've been talking about for the last 25 years? When albums like Morning Phase win over pop-albums like Beyonce's?2/10/2015 3:57:33 PM |
