Aren't there usually a ton of cops at a checkpoint? She probably hinted at it in front of a few cops making it hard for them to sweep it under the rug. Much easier to let it slide if you don't need collusion to hide it.

Just like those stupid speeding traps where one cop clocks you and the other pulls you over...or two cops in one car...it's there to keep a lone rider from giving into pressure...like letting someone go for driving 5 over

The dude (who is going to get the death penalty) above is not out of jail; they just added to his stack of charges. Considering what he's been charged with, I'm not sure why, but that's up for the prosecutors to work out. Usually things like that just end up placating the families of the victims. For instance, Lawrence Lovette was recently convicted on Murder 1, and got convicted of lesser crimes with consecutive sentencing. He's going to spend the rest of his life in prison, even if they dropped those other charges. I don't see why it matters other than a "HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW" for the prosecution...
