The new Apple Watch having it's own cellular data receiver is pretty cool. Otherwise, nothing really new to the industry that I know of from any of the new hardware.] 9/12/2017 10:55:49 PM |

Watch + cellular is cool, but I don't need or want one. The rest of the announced stuff was pretty meh for me. 9/13/2017 7:51:13 AM |

The cellular feature in the watch is cool, but it's already been done by other companies.
The only crappy thing is the battery life on the watch. I heard that it has 1 hr of talk time and 4 hours using LTE. 9/13/2017 7:57:33 AM |

The battery in the Apple Watch has always been a joke.
Meanwhile the Gear S3 can hold its own for nearly 4 days.
I really just don't understand the Apple worship. 9/13/2017 9:44:03 AM |

Years after Android watches allow LTE connectivity, Apple finally decides to add it to their watches.
But they can't make it work right. Come on apple.

I updated and had no issues (so far) on my Late 2013 MBP
It's pretty amazing the install process does an in-place change of the filesystem and it has been entirely seamless-- even had 10 extra GB of space available after the update.

^As much as I dislike Apple products, they do have a somewhat compelling argument. But my question is and always has been - why don't they just make their batteries easier to replace? 12/27/2017 8:31:14 AM |

Same reason most non-iPhones have also gone away from easily replaceable batteries -- they would rather you buy a new phone than just swap in a new battery. 12/27/2017 9:14:37 AM |

Anyone here have an iPhone X? I usually replace my phone every 2 years, and I'm due.
I got the wife a 8 Plus for Christmas and it's not too big. I was planning to get an X for me; but the no-home-button thing worries me. I don't know if I'm down with gestures and face ID. 12/27/2017 9:35:42 AM |

The new gestures are awesome (they should bring them to the 6/7/8)
Face ID is fairly different than Touch ID and takes adjustment to get used to 12/28/2017 12:19:37 AM |

The argument is plausible on its face, until you realize that they didn't tell anyone they were doing it, much less provide a way to disable it. Instead, they just slow your device down, without your knowledge, and without your permission, with absolutely no notification whatsoever. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure the software even checks if your battery is bad; it just slows your processor if the model is low enough. As another website put it, there's no reason for you to think your battery is the problem when your device suddenly starts acting slow as shit... You just assume the phone is busted. And you go buy a new one. Which is exactly what Apple was aiming for.
If Apple were really doing this for altruistic reasons, they would have told consumers over a year ago when they released the software changes, or maybe when people were posting all over the internet asking why their phones seemed to be acting up after the latest update. They wouldn't have waited until people started comparing benchmark numbers to fess up. Fuck Apple on this one.

^^ Also, I'd avoid any and all biometrics, especially face recognition. Samsung phones, at a minimum, can be fooled by a photograph. Also, law enforcement can demand that you supply a fingerprint or face scan to unlock your phone; they can't demand your password. Given how ready police are to fuck you over these days, I'd be hesitant giving them any power to search my phone without a warrant or my permission. 12/28/2017 12:40:11 AM |

The price they're asking for their homepod is insane.
Perhaps the Echo isn't the best sounding speaker in the world, but man, I can get it for $80 when it is on sale. There's no comparing 80 to 350. Hell Bose doesn't even ask that much for their portable speakers - and it's only a matter of time before they integrate Alexa or Home into them.
The homepod is not Apple at its finest. 2/26/2018 9:48:11 PM |

Alexa came out like 3 or 4 years ago. Apple is always late to the party. But they'll still make a killing selling these things because some people are retarded. 2/26/2018 10:03:39 PM |

The HomePod is being marketed more of an audio system, and pretty much all the reviews say it has stellar sound quality. If you need a good sounding system for ios or AppleTV (eventually), then it can't be beat.
If you need a voice assistant, it's at the bottom of the stack at this point. 2/27/2018 12:53:26 AM |

got the Xs max on Friday.
Upgraded from the 6s+ so it feels like I went from a moped to a ferrari. everything runs faster, got 4x the storage, the camera is way better. Took a minute to get used to no home button, but the extra screen space is nice.
The upside of going 3 years between upgrades is i don't get jaded from the smaller yearly incremental changes. 9/24/2018 4:06:00 PM |

No GPU could do what they're doing with afterburner
CUDA is great general compute but a fully dedicated video decoding/encoding/effects chip is always going to be better-- it's why Tesla ditched Nvidia too for compute. Obviously an extremely niche market they're after here, but still interesting...
