bartoli played out of her mind though, I don't watch her that much but I would bet that was the best match of her career or close, but yea lisicki admitted she was overwhelmed by the moment

is djokovic stoppable? rumors are that he's a machine, but everytime i watch him play his technique is impeccable. he earned this trophy hands down.

i feel bad for federer. novak has his number now. could roger ever beat him again in 5 sets?

still got to respect how good Roger is for his age, and how generally consistent his career has been, at this point you could make the case that while he won a lot of majors early because the field hadn't caught up to him, now it's come full circle and if it wasn't for such amazing guys like Novak, he'd have a bunch more slams

maybe gonna stir some shit, but was McEnroe wrong?

I didn't hear the whole NPR interview or read anything about it, but apparently he said something like "Serena is the best women's tennis player in the world",

and the interviewer asked "why qualify it with "women's", why not just say "best in the world"?

and he said "because if she played in the men's league, she'd be #700".

i hardly ever watch tennis and don't know much about it, and 700 is obviously an exaggeration, but is there any question that if she played in the men's league, she would not be at the top?

Looks like Federer is in a great place headed into the Wimbledon semis. He plays Berdych on Friday and if he wins then plays the winner of Querrey v Clic for the championship.

McEnroe was not wrong, he should have just left it at something like "Because she's a woman, what do you want me to say?"

She'd be around 300-400 at best. There is a huge difference between men and women in nearly every sport. To say this is neither new, controversial, or unfounded.

he would have been smarter to just say there has been a lot of parity in the women's game in the last 5 yrs, with no real challenger to serena coming close to emerging

and yeah fed/venus would def be cool

See Karsten Braasch vs. the Williams sisters ca. 1998 for men vs women and tennis.

Federer won 35 straight service points against Lacko.

His road to a Wimbledon championship this year will probably be tougher than last year, but that's pretty wild.

^^ interesting, thx.

Quote :
"Another event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open[52] between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple bottles of ice cold lager".[53][52] The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park,[54] after Braasch had finished a round of golf and two shandies. He first took on Serena and after leading 5–0, beat her 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.[55] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance". He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun".[56] Braasch said the big difference was that men can chase down shots much easier, and that men put spin on the ball that the women can't handle. The Williams sisters adjusted their claim to beating men outside the top 350.[52]"

Dumb commentary, and I don't think the Williams sisters were at their prime yet, but still a good data point.

"A question lingering: if Djokovic was claiming a coronavirus positive in last six months as reason for an exemption, when did he get it?

According to BBC, his lawyers say that Djokovic tested positive very recently, less than a month ago, on December 16.

https://t.co/w1JBE4vFp8

December 16 was a busy day for Djokovic:

In addition to purportedly getting a PCR test for Covid that came back positive, Djokovic also was part of a maskless, indoor panel discussion and attended a maskless, indoor ceremony for a stamp being made in his honor on that day. https://t.co/rI9j0rsPJr

There’s more:

On December 17th, the day *after* Djokovic’s purported positive PCR test on December 16th, Djokovic attended an award ceremony for children at the Novak Tennis Center.

Many posts from the kids there posing for pictures with him that day, again masklessly indoors. https://t.co/2ecOSwA7lU

Now they are just being douchebags about it. They knew they were gonna cancel his visa again right after the judge's decision came out. Waited until today to fuck him over. It's the kind of thing that in US courts would be strongly held against the delaying party.
