too many concealed carriers view themselves as a secondary police force, just itching for the chance to "defend" themselves. it's a power thing. an especially paranoid gun owner might manufacture a dangerous situation out of nothing

Don't lie. You've already told us that you like to follow suspicious looking darkies at night slowly in your truck, truck nuts swinging gracefully from your tail hitch, with a sticker of a rebel flag flapping majestically in the wind right next to your sticker of Calvin peeing on the logo of another truck company.
Just waiting for a chance to rid the country of one of them.

^^he may have been/some of the details sort of point to that. but none of us know him or his personality, so it's hard to say. did he take his community watch role too seriously? was he just trying to be a good neighborhood citizen and approached what he perceived as a suspicious person in his neighborhood, ended up in a fight, then used lethal force to stop it?
^racism at its finest. I never said anything about following a person of a certain race; I never said how often/how many times, I don't have truck nuts, I don't own a single rebel flag, sticker, etc, and I don't have a peeing character sticker. Further, wanting a chance to kill someone is psychotic. GOOD TRY THOUGH. you're just spouting typical liberal rhetoric. come up with something useful.

Here's the thing.
Even if the kid was casing the neighborhood. Even if the kid had just stolen everyone's skittles and was wheeling them in a wheelbarrow out of the neighborhood. The point was that he was not a direct threat to the man in his house/car/whatever. He was not threatening him. He was not doing anything to him. The man instigated the confrontation. And that is not self-defense. He was in no danger until he intentionally put himself in danger. 3/9/2012 1:54:29 PM |
wdprice3 BinaryBuffonary 45912 Posts user info edit post |
^I don't believe that's what the law says. The problematic confrontation begins with physical contact, not approaching someone and asking them questions. I assume for now that the evidence points to the kid starting the confrontation. It's irrelevant that the guy approached the kid to ask him questions. That is not illegal nor a threat. Assuming the kid started the physical confrontation, this guy may very well be in his right to use lethal force. If the guy started the physical confrontation/tried to physically detain him, then self defense is out the window.

Here's the thing. Even if the kid knew the guy had a gun and tried to take it away from him... There is no possibility whatsoever that this guy was acting in a legal manner and found his own life threatened. That has never happened to anyone, anywhere.
And note...I haven't defended anyone on either side. I'm just pointing out the possibility that there may be more to the story than certain folks would ever tell you because it doesn't fit their agenda.

Quote : | "Chief Bill Lee of the Sanford Police Department on Thursday evening said the account given by Martin’s family and attorney is correct, that Zimmerman saw the young man walking home from the store. He said that Zimmerman did indeed call 911 and report a suspicious person, and that he was told not to follow him.
“For some reason he felt that Trayvon, the way that he was walking or appeared seemed suspicious to him,” Lee said. “He called this in and at one part of this initial call [the dispatcher] recommends him not to follow Trayvon. A police officer is on the way at that point.”
Lee said that Zimmerman instead followed Martin.
“I believe that Mr. Zimmerman was trying to, by his account, find an address to give the officers and also trying to keep Trayvon in eyesight.”
Zimmerman told the police that Martin noticed that he was being followed and asked, “what’s your problem?”
That's when a physical confrontation ensued, Lee said. And moments later, Martin was shot." |

911 dispatchers are not LEOs or Lawyers.
They have no authority. Even if they did I'm sure the advice was for his own safety; not because following the kid would have been illegal in any way.
Way to spin it though.
You might as well take your legal advice from the cashier at Food Lion.
