I've been called a lot of names, only claimed ad hominem in chatbox incorrectly. Why don't you intellectually honest people steelman Rogan?

To be fair my assumption of the Rogan hate has to do with giving a platform to some questionable people like McGinnis. Rogan being an idiot he readily admits on his podcast.

If you look at my Photo Gallery I have an image "Thanks Corporate News" that I put in there probably 2004. I was a big Chomsky fan and read "Amusing Ourselves to Death" in the same era. I've been generally critical of TV press for two decades. I think the advertising model and cozying up to power that has happened does more to further many of the ills in society over any other. The idea that TV can be serious is laughable.

That said clearly there are other options to Rogan and Podcasts in general: books. I think podcasts in general have some of the same problems of TV--they are passive consumption. I would rank Rogan over almost any TV just from the diversity of content perspective. He's had John Carmack, bear hunters, guy that repairs Teslas and fights Musk, and other guests you'd never see elsewhere. Granted this is just surface level content. No one is learning how to repair a Tesla by watching Rogan. I'm sure a serious gamer or hunter has better content available if you dug beneath the surface. This surface level content is just like watching porn and makes people feel smart.

It's possible that Rogan's more fringe guests, like Gavin McGinnis, expose ideas that "corrupt the youth". I'm sure more than zero people that were in the capitol riot got their start being exposed to such ideas. Giving people with persuasive powers in 2021 when the social media amplification can move it far and wide means mass scale social disruption can occur. We have to be careful who we give a platform. As was seen with Trump, a orangutan with funny quips can end up with the nuclear launch codes.

I'm not a JR apologist or hater. I don't really pay him much attention, other than clips I see of him on social media. However, I did think his apology for saying the n word was sincere. It seemed like he was being proactive because he is really about to be under the microscope.
