I get that I am under contract, and don't even have a problem paying the early termination fee if I want to leave them, but I wish they had some mechanism to provide even a slight discount to thier current customers, even if the "new every 2" was a pro-rated discount, where you got a % of the discounted price for every month you were through your contract, just like the ETF is pro-rated.
I don't even have a smart phone, I have a shitty, regular, boring phone. I was willing to double my base plan, and add two data plans at $30 a piece, and renew my contract for 2 more years. I thought for sure that with me more than doubling my monthly fee, they would be happy to at least try to help me out.
I've been with verizon since I was in high school, over a decade ago. The fact that I have had ZERO service problems is the only reason I have not run to AT&T yet. 11/7/2009 9:07:44 PM |

I swear, Verizon and other phone companies should really take a page out of the Apple Store book.... I went by the Verizon store today (the only one here in Boise), 90% sure I would walk out with one of the Droid phones and a new 2-year contract. The place was very busy, and I was expecting to see quite a display with plenty of demo units of the Droid and the Eris. But nope..... the store was still chock-full wall-to-wall of shitty phones, a wall of Blackberries, then one each of the Droid and Eris in the entire fucking store, with a line to the door just to be able to see them. So people were standing in line, just so they could touch or play with them for a few minutes, all the while having a line of anxious people behind them tapping their feet. I stood there for a few minutes, then someone ripped a nasty fart, and I left.
Then went to Best Buy and was happy to see nobody was standing in front of the Verizon display, so I got excited that I would be able to play with one of them.... and there were no actual demo units on display. Just non-functioinal phones with those stupid fucking face-stickers on them! Then of course I walk over to the Apple section of the store and they have large tables with several fully functional iPhones and Touches all ready to play with and test out. Not that I haven't played with the iPhone a couple dozen times already in various stores, but it's still always a pleasure to do so.
Jesus, it's like these fucking places don't even want my money. 11/7/2009 10:43:01 PM |

I was just reading some articles about it last night, and then the one on slashdot popped up this morning about the 5GB cap on verizon's "unlimited" data plan, so be careful with your tethering.
I have about 3-4 more weeks before I have to decide between one of the android phones or the iphone. 11/9/2009 9:13:11 AM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
The 5GB limit is for data cards and if you use their tethering add-on. Data on the phone itself is unlimited but you'd be hard pressed to hit 5GB unless you're streaming online radio or something 24/7. No one is really sure if they can tell if you're using a 3rd party tethering program but I'm sure they'd get suspicious if you were using a lot of data. 11/9/2009 9:18:27 AM |

yeah, that's my dilemma. The Eris feels a lot better in the hand, dedicated send/end keys and SenseUI is pretty sweet but I hate waiting for OS updates. Even if it does get 2.0, it may not run as well and the Droid will most likely get a SenseUI port once it gets rooted. 11/9/2009 8:11:01 PM |

I thought HTC announced last week that they will not port the HD2 (or whatever the snapdragon phone is) over to Android as they want it to be a WinMo showcase. I don't see how they can do another snapdragon phone so soon without completely blowing that statement out of the water. I haven't seen any NEW snapdragon/android rumors since that. Did I miss something?
I busted the digitizer on my Storm on Sunday so I decided on the Eris yesterday. It's supposed to come in this morning so I'm looking forward to a day where I don't actually get any work done. After being on BB's for the past few years, I'm looking forward to a change. I decided that the Droid's pluses (screen & processor) were outweighed by it's design, poor keyboard, & lackluster UI since I don't use my phones for media. Hopefully it will be the right choice.... 11/10/2009 7:46:42 AM |

Well I've been rsearching which one would work best for my needs which basically is ideally an iPhone on verizon. I looked at the storm2, droid and eries. Dropped the storm after playing with it in the store. I prefer the droid's 2.0 because of the navigation. Although I really like sense and the seven different screens... I think what it comes down to is which supports media better. I have not seen anything about how podcasts are Handled. I want to be able to use it as a music player fairly often. 11/10/2009 8:25:21 AM |

There were rumors that they'd just create an android version of the HD2 but the HTC CEO said the HD2 would be strictly WinMo. Didn't say the wouldn't create an android with similar specs though
Quote : | "In an interview given to Forbes, HTC CEO Peter Chou spoke pretty candidly about the widespread desire for an Android version of the HD2, and says the phone won't be finagled thusly. "Technically, we could make the HD2 an Android phone, but I have to take care of Windows Mobile," said Chou, after which we imagine popped in a stick of Juicy Fruit and didn't offer to share any with the rest of the class. Of course, this doesn't rule out a handset with similar specifications to the HD2, like the Dragon, matching DROID's push toward Android 2.0 and modern hardware, but it seems to imply that at least it won't be called "HD2," and probably won't look much like it either. Chou did admit that Windows Mobile innovation has been "a little slow" and that interest is declining, and says HTC is "working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile back." He didn't hold back on Google, however, saying that some of its actions can be "destructive" but that "we've worked with Microsoft for 13 years ... I also believe we can work with Google for a long time."" |

The lines may have been subdued, but one way or another, it sounds as if Motorola managed to sell quite a few DROIDs over the weekend. According to analyst Mark McKechnie at Broadpoint AmTech, the outfit managed to move around 100,000 of 'em during the opening weekend, with most stores moving at least half of their original shipments. He also estimated that Moto would sell one million Android-based phones in Q4 2009 alone (which includes the CLIQ, obviously), and that he viewed the first few days as "encouraging." It's been a long, long while since we've been able to say this, but hey -- nice job, Motorola." |

I just found a Google Listen app last night in the marketplace that is meant for subscribing to podcasts. I installed it but didn't really get to play around with it much. I'll try to remember to play with it tonight. I also don't have any music loaded on the thing yet but what I've read says that Sense UI handles music much better than the Droid's UI. I think I read somewhere that there is even a play/pause button while the phone is locked similarly to the iPhone.11/10/2009 11:03:51 AM |

more v-phone. Looks like it's being developed under Verizon's Open Development program where pretty much anyone can make a verizon ready phone.
Quote : | "f you know that your personal happiness lies somewhere in the Verizon / Android abyss but neither the Droid nor the Droid Eris are hitting the spot, you might consider trying something completely out of left field. How "left field" are we talking here? Well, for starters, odds are good that you've never heard of a company called Saygus, and its shiny new QWERTY slider, the VPhone, won't be offered directly from Verizon -- it's a product of the carrier's Open Development initiative. Sure enough, that handset we spied a few days back is real, and the specs are all panning out: 624MHz PXA310 XScale core, 512MB of Flash on board coupled with 256MB of RAM, 3.5-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen, WiFi, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, front-facing VGA camera and -- of course -- EV-DO Rev. A support. The current incarnation is running Android 1.6, but it should be running 2.0 by the time of its launch next year, along with getting some Google-certification to let it run the Google apps. Saygus' real thrust here is apparently two-way video calling (good thing they picked Verizon, huh?), though they aren't showing it off just yet. Otherwise it's pretty much stock Android, and when asked if they swiped something from HTC Sense UI, Saygus said those buttons and the extra home screens are actually a standard part of Android's open source repository. The hardware itself is rather chubby, but it leaves room for an oversized QWERTY keyboard that could very well solve your Droid woes. No word on price or a firm release date." |

Well the FedEx guy took his sweet damn time but I finally got my Eris around 4:00. So far I'm really impressed and happy with it. Feel is fantastic compared to the Storm. It's really odd. I couldn't believe how much smaller/thinner it was until I compared them. There's not much of a difference but the Eris seems much more "pocketable". The Storm drove me crazy in my pocket and always unlocked itself so I ended up using a holster. I think the Eris is just going to go straight into my pocket. I haven't downloaded many apps yet (FB, Pandora, & a couple of other ones) but I like what I've seen the past few days while looking through the options.
So far, the only thing that I DON'T like about it is that I can't set up multiple Google accounts. My personal email is gmail but I also have a work account that I use for contacts & calendar. Tomorrow I'm going to change my settings at work so that Google Sync syncs to my personal calendar. I've also got to find some kind of spam software or something that will allow me to get rid of the 30-40 junk emails that make it through everything each day. Anybody have any recommendations there? 11/10/2009 8:59:47 PM |
