Of course, Archie went to school here and we're not exactly confident about landing him...obviously coaching at your alma mater is a personal thing that's different for each coach. And there are tons of other factors at play, too. it's just funny to think Wade to Clemson would be likely since he went to school there...but Archie is State is unlikely for other reasons.

Love the post with the recruiting rankings. I mentioned it earlier in the thread because its a hugely important piece that has gone un-mentioned by press until that article.

I looked at the same thing when we fired Lowe. Clear sign of inability to recruit the RIGHT players, retain, develop, utilize for wins.

Gott was a step up, but not the long term solution, and honestly, we were all saying that 6 years ago when he was hired. That's exactly whats played out.

We need to juxtapose recruiting rankings with results to find our next coach. Flip that shit on its head here at NCSU and I think we would see different results.

Yeah I think any "general consensus" on who we're going to hire is a little crazy since we haven't even locked in a hiring firm yet.

I mean if you want to know what Yow wants in a coach, I'd say look at what she did the first go-round and why we just fired Gott. I'd imagine the wish list is:
1. P5 head coaching experience
2. Strong recruiter
3. Gets effort out of his players
4. Emphasizes defense

The last 2 are speculation based on why Gott just got let go, but the first 2 were definitely part of the criteria during the last search. I actually think it's the main reason that Keatts is viewed more as a "fall back option" just because he doesn't have P5 head coaching experience(though I imagine assistant coach for national champion UL will look favorable on his resume).

Everything now is just conjecture and rumors from "sources". I absolutely think Gregg Marshall will listen to us, mainly because he did it the last time and he listens to everyone that comes courting. Will we land him? Potentially not, but no reason to think he wouldn't at least consider it. It actually wouldn't surprise me if we didn't even waste our time after getting spurned the last go-round and the high likelihood that he's just doing it to stroke his ego.

I mean, sure Wade could hold out for Clemson, but this comes back to the same deal as Archie Miller, how much emphasis do you put on being an alum versus a better job opportunity? I don't see how you can argue Clemson is a better gig than NC State and I doubt Clemson can afford to dump as much money into their basketball coach because of how much they spend on football(that staff is extremely expensive).

Like someone said, if our "floor" is Wade or Keatts, then this is going to be a great search. Also, no way Keatts passes on a HC job in the ACC for Dayton, that's not happening.

That's why I clarified it was more of a "wish list", I think she'll be willing to overlook P5 experience if they have multiple NCAA appearances.

We won't find a candidate to match all 4 of those, but I think it'll be a starting point for the committee. I mean Keatts doesn't have P5 HC experience but I think him making the tourney 2 years in a row and having experience at UL will make up for that. The problem is his defensive ratings are pretty abysmal, I mean not Gott bad but not a ton better, so I think those 2 combined will slide him down, if that makes sense.

We won't have a ton of candidates that match all 5 of those, maybe Enfield and Cronin if those guys end up actually being candidates?

If somebody could tell me how to fix picture uploads, instead of being so defensive. I thought this would be fun to be "the guy" so to speak, but this community has made me a bit squeamish to continue. So I will take baby steps and see how it goes.

First baby step:

Basically, the guy you think is the #1 guy is #1 name. (sorry to be a little vague at this point, but I'm a little startled). They are going full throttle. Red Carpet, the pocket book has never been so wide for sure.

There are only two other coaches in the back pocket (I hear) in case it doesn't work out with #1. One of them is in the NBA currently. He is apparently really interested in getting back to college coaching- it would be a blockbuster hire in my opinion. Any of these guys would be Blockbuster hires honestly.

The other is a really prominent college name, but its too early for me to divulge; most people in the Office are really into him in particular. I would be most happy with this last option.

I am being hesitant because one of my buddies in the Office said that I shouldn't talk about it at work. I'm getting cold feet basically, ha.

I'm no deep throat, and I like my job. I will offer more if its wanted.

Incorrect. Yow keeps this firm on call in case there is an issue at any point with any coach. They are already in the process of contacting agents vetting coaches and creating a list of potential candidates that the committee that will be formed can look at. Coaches that have interest in the job via their agents have also been in contact with this firm. The coaching world is smaller than you can imagine.

I doubt we hear anything as far as a new coach goes until the Final Four unless one of the candidates is in the final four and in that case will likely remove his name.

As for the NBA side, the Hoidberg and Donovan both have been thrown around as names but you can forget that. Yow wants a college guy that is established now. Someone with a chip on their shoulder and can make NC State finally have it's own brand of basketball per her words not mine.

I, along with 99% of the posters on here and on PP do not have any idea who the list of candidates they are currently vetting are...

But it sure is fun to throw out ideas...Personally I like 1.) Altman 2.) Marshall 3.) Miller 4.) Wade 5.) Cronin but there's basically zero chance of Altman and Marshall/Cronin already had a run in with Yow last time. Greg Gard and Steve Prohm are also intriguing candidates as well as Matt Painter bc of the Woodson Purdue connection.
