no idea, you should get 750ppd from the C2D alone, are you using the SMP client on the C2D?

Support Cancer Research and the NCSU Wolfpack With Your Computer's Idle Time!

What Is It?
Essentially Folding@Home uses your unused CPU cycles to model how proteins fold in the human body. The misfolding of proteins is often involved in well known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. Because this endeavor requires massive amounts of computing power, their project uses spare CPU time on computers that would otherwise sit idle in homes and businesses across the world. Here at North Carolina State University, we have formed this team in order to donate our spare CPU time to help this important endeavor.

The North Carolina State University Folding@Home Team (Team # 59) was one of the first teams to join the Folding@Home project, and was the very first University-based team to join. We are currently ranked in the Top 100 teams in the world and are ramping up production in an effort to make it into the Top 50. We are all dedicated to doing our part to help end some of these terrible diseases, and we would appreciate the support of anyone who would like to help.

All it takes is the installation of a small piece of software and your computer will start completing Work Units for the project and the team. The Folding@Home process runs at the lowest possible priority so you can run it 24X7 without slowing down your computer or interfering with your everyday computing tasks. If you have a Sony PS3 Game Console you can also run Folding@Home on it with great results.

How can I Help?
Download and install the software appropriate for your OS (Windows/Linux/Mac). For dual/quad core computers, be sure you install the SMP client. It will get you and the NCSU team far more points than the traditional client. Whichever client you choose, we recommend running the Folding@Home client as a service. The client will run in the background without notification, and will release CPU resources as needed since it runs at the lowest priority. The NCSU Team Number is 59.

Visit the team homepage for detailed installation instructions

Windows Computers
We recommend using the "text-only console” client for most windows computers. If you have a dual/quad core processor, be sure to install and run the SMP client to get you and the team far more points than the standard console client In general, its best to stay away from the graphical clients. If you have a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading, its best to turn off Hyperthreading in the BIOS if you know how. Feel free to post in this thread with any questions.

Mac and Linux Computers
There are both "text-only" consoles and SMP clients for Linux and Macintosh computers too! If you have a dual/quad/etc core processor be sure to run the SMP client as you'll get far more points than the text-only client. But the regular console clients also help out too if you only have single-core processors.

Playstation 3
PS3s currently provide over 60% of the processing power in the Folding@home network and are capable of producing many points for the team. If you have PS3 system version 1.6 or later, you will see a Folding@Home icon in the Network column of the XMB (PS3 Networking menu). Just click on the icon and that's it. If you don't have 1.6 or later, perform a system upgrade. Make sure to use Team #59!

The more computers and PS3s you run the clients on, the more points your username and the NCSU team earns! Install as many clients as you can and watch your username/team progress at the stats page

first off the smp on that proc will take 2.5-3 days to complete work units. also have you been running both of those clients for a full 7 days? Thats how long it takes for your PPD numbers to stabilize.

Make sure you're running FahMon on each computer (or one for the whole network) to monitor the true PPD numbers and the log so you can tell when the client stops and what errors it throws up. any post the errors/log info here
http://fahmon.net/

Quote :
"i dont know how to get it started again, i cant just click on the core application"

if you're running the service go into services.msc to stop the service and restart it. i even have .bat files on my desktop to stop and start the services by just clicking the icons.

Welcome! If you have any questions about installing the clients on your PCs just let us know

wait a little while to see what happens and post your log file. either get it through the FahMon
program or look for the text file in whatever directory you're running the client in.

Vista has issues with installing the client as a service. It won't work.

Uninstall the client ... reinstall it ... but this time, DO NOT install as a service. Also, make sure when you run the installer that you right-click "Run as administrator". Once installed, go into the installed directory and run the "install.bat" file, once again, make sure you right-click "Run as administrator" for this as well.

I got my gorilla folding machines reset. The power outage cost me ~7000 points for today. I've got to stop folding on hardware that doesn't belong to me.

so i got sick of the FILE_IO_ERRORs on my Q6600 and installed VmWare Server + 2 copies of Ubuntu each running a SMP client. It doesn't look like I can monitor those clients with my vista based FahMon, and also sounds like to install FahMon in LInux you need to download the source and compile...something thats beyond my skillset in Linux since I haven't used it much.... I guess I'll just keep an eye on frame times to figure out PPD. I'm hoping for 4,000 PPD out of it. I also set the affinity on each windows process of vmware to only use 2 cores, i read that helps too.

grrr, looks like I'm getting ~3100PPD according to the frame times. guess i don't have something set up right. but considering the FILE_IO_ERRORs I was getting under Vista I guess thats more points than I was getting...

yeah its not bad, but I was getting ~3600 with the 2 Vista clients (not counting the IO errors and related downtime for one of the clients.) i guess i'll be happy if the linux clients continue to run error free at 3100PPD, I was just hoping to experience this ~4000PPD+ i read about in other threads

^and that's on a Dell right?

just to take a poll, does anyone who is getting the "FILE_IO_ERRORS" have memory that's above the DDR2 spec of 800mhz @ 1.8v?

i have 1066mhz @2.3v memory and while i've tweaked the voltage and timings a million times, my client still locks up after finishing a unit and whenever i initially start the client.

i've got my ddr2 1066 running at 1.95V stable with my q6600, no more errors on vistax64 since the very first WU

it is kinda weird that i had 3 WU's finish and submit by 3pm today and the stats are always behind for me.... oh well, work is getting done that's all I really care about.

yea, the EOC stats are about 60 min. behind, so if you submit anytime within an hour before stats processing it won't show up until the next update in 3 hours, so it can take up to 4 hours to show up

yeah its a dell inspiron 530. my memory is ddr2 800 1.8V, and not that it matters for FaH, but evidently I can't use anything higher voltage than that (f u dell).

Well at least your point loss was involuntary. Last weekend I accidentally put my user as y, as in yes to the questions in the setup. I didnt catch it untill my ppd dropped a bunch and I started investigating why. Check the user y to see wasted points if it will make you feel better. Ahhh, I hate it when im a tard.
