Then I'd look at the regular 560 for that range.

Something like this:

or the MSI:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127593

or the 6870:

Might be selling my 2 460's. If anyone is interested. I hate selling things so I'd let them go for cheap.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130568

Thinking $250 for both. Hard to beat considering they outperform a 580 for half the price.

Arab you might want to haggle with neo for those, or go for the MSI ^^

not to be an asshole (even though I am), but you can find OC gtx460's for $100-120 new. Those used evga's go for about 80-110. However, I'm not sure two of those would be good on a 500w psu. On load, they can use 414-512w, depending on the application, but you can get the cheap OCZ 700w for $45 on amazon.com right now.

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3383590

Also Arab, you just missed the 6870 deal for $130 yesterday. They've been hovering around the 140-150 mark with games a lot lately. Alternatively, in your price range, I'd think about grabbing the 6950 for 200 or the 560ti for 210 for a powerful single card solution that will still work with your 500w psu. (560ti uses 352w, 6950 uses 308-320w)

Also, the MSi GTX460 OC 780mhz is $125AR at us.ncix.com, not the awesome sale price of $99, but still a good price on nice speedy version of the 460.

The Ti version of that same 560 is only $10 more at us.ncix.com

Actually only $2 more since you don't pay for shipping.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some EVGA, but I'm liking MSi pricing lately. I just wished their Twin Frozr II OC version was the one I got instead of the Vanilla 570, but damn $250 was hard to pass up, specially for an SLI setup. For only $330 upgrade to me, I've doubled my graphics ability. I might sell my 700w OCZ psu for a few bucks too since I snagged the 850 for $80 on monday.

Don't get me wrong, but I hate MSI's RMA's recently. It's almost worth the extra money for the lifetime warranty. By the time you pay return shipping, you might as well go with something quality. Sorry I'm a bit bitter, because I knew as soon as I ordered it, I was going to get the runt.

I mean are you completely sure the 570 won't work at all? Have you tried it on another system yet? The msi 460 and the msi 570 I got both work flawless on my systems, and that's both swapping from amd gpu's.

Yeah, that happened to me with my Mobo. Delivery guys just chuck shit around and fuck up boards. Every single build I have done in the past 10 years, at least one component was DOA.

In the last 10-years for me... first 5-years it happened a lot to me, but after learning a lot about what makes quality components, I've actually had pretty good luck. This is probably the first RMA I've had in the last 3-4 years now.

My money is on the idea that the culprit is the delivery, not the component. My ROG Mobo had best hardware award from several sites, all Japanese capacitors and all that jazz. Second one that arrived worked perfectly.

Could be, but I doubt it. Every company has RMA's, it's just some are more than others and it differs completely based on different components and where they are manufactured. I mean maybe you got one of 3% of RMA for that motherboard, whereas maybe I was one of 9% for the 570... who knows, maybe it's vice-versa and I'm one in a million. I just don't see that it's delivery considering how well these boxes are packaged. You'd have to drop it from a moving vehicle to get enough G's to knock components around. Or take a defib to it to get enough electricity to fry anything.

I haven't had a DOA 10 years and that was from the old IBM deathstars.

Since then, I had a WD 120gb drive die on me, but was replaced with 2 of the same WD drives when I RMA'ed mine. I've had a $150 gigabyte p4 mobo die within 8 months but I had newegg insurance and got it replaced with a more expensive $250 gigabyte mobo. I debated that I only got the original mobo because it had a native optical sound out and the only other gigabyte offering was the more expensive product since the $150 one was discontinued.

I had an Abit Pentium D mobo that died on me within a few months and the company sent a replacement + $40 to cover shipping. Man, I completely forgot I had a PentD 940 computer. I had it for about 3 months before I flipped it to a friend to build a Core Duo system.

I had a 500w rosewill PSU, actually 3 of them, die within a year; two of which was on friends builds that I built. Didn't even bother for an RMA on those. 2 rosewill 3.5" CF readers as a case drive, both died within a month of owning; was not worth shipping back to newegg. I had an XFX 8600gt died about 18 months after owning, but no dice on an RMA, even though I bought the 5870 a month before it died.

^he was actually... back in 2004. He still comes on here time to time, but I think the last time he lurked on tdub was 2 years ago.

Quote :

"

I stayed with Intel throughout that time, although I was going to switch to the AMD 64's until they announced the Core 2 Duo's. I had the 1.4ghz Willamette shittastic cpu that was paired with the stupid rambus, it was barely faster than my 933 P3 at the time and only got it cause it was a dell deal, ended up selling that to my aunt or cousin.

Then I finally built the decent Northwood 2.8c there after that I still have today and my dad still uses. I also built a 3.2 or 3.4 prescott system (I forgot the speed), but I sold the cpu and upgraded it to the PD 940 presler dual core since it used the same 775 slot, which I only had for a few months before I sold the whole system to my friend. Then build a new system off the E8600 that I also still have today and still use.

I also have an e2200 celeron box that I mainly used as a media server/2nd cheap gaming box when I lived in two places. I rented it out to another friend for the past year since I felt sorry that his computer died, and since I have the i7 930 and e8600 system still, I rarely used it anyhow.

I actually just got that system back last month after building the x6 system for the friend. So in the process of rebuilding it back up when I get some time and give it to my dad so he can finally retire the old p4.

Actually now that I think about it I'm going to wait for Kepler and 28nm. Initial rumors were Q4 2011 but it got pushed to Q1 2012. It's a complete overhaul and I can wait for a 680GTX.

Big deal, the Antec Kuhler series has beat everyone in the price range, although Corsair is not far behind. It is cool to see AMD make one for the Bulldozer launch though (and that is how far off?)

Still beaten by the NH D-14:

The D-14 is much quieter too. I don't see why anyone would go with these water solutions when they don't work as well and aren't as quite.

Well the Noctura NH D14 is $86 on newegg, cheaper than the Antec H2O 920 at $107, but more than the 620 system at $60.

Also the Prolimatech Megahalems cooler is $70, but you have to add your own 120mm fans.

The NH D-14 is big but it's really easy to take the fans off to replace the ram so it's not much of a hassle. It's quiet too.

Hehe, reminds me of one of my friends who has a dual 480 setup. He positioned his PC in the next room and ran long cables so he didn't have to hear the whines of the GPU's under his desk. Although the next room was only 10ft away. I thought it was a funny drastic way to reduce ambient noise levels in his play room.

Any new video cards chip/breakthroughs on the horizon? My 3-year old 4870X2 is on the fritz (I can't even log into WoW now without it locking up a few mins in and then it just reboots my computer with weird lines but eventually restarts to normal). So I have my other machine (2 5770s) that I can bum around with for now but I would like something decent in December when SWTOR and eventually Diablo 3 come out. I was looking at two 6870s possibly since that would be around $300. Or 560Ti SLI but I don't have much experience with Nvideas other than the garbage they put into laptops.

6850's for $240ish each
GTX 560's for $220ish each

Best bang for the buck SLI/CF setups in that price range. But if you can wait till winter, wait till black friday sales since video cards should be uber cheap then. The next gen nvidia 6 series won't be out for a while and I don't believe amd has anything on the books for the rest of the year as well; maybe some budget/low level cards.

Not as slick as Microcenter's $150 i5 2500k, get an extra $40 off if you bundle it with a motherboard. The $280 i7 2600k minus another $80 if you bundle with a mobo too. Sick deals. Sucks that its B&M only, but I got a friend in MD that lives next to one if I need parts from him.

Also, news of the AMD 8-core FX bulldozer chips are out. It's so much dissapointment in a 2 Billion transistor package. Apparently, the way they designed the chip, AMD says that current OS's isn't properly optimized due to schedule inefficiencies of the way the processor handles requests/threads.

Right now, its only slightly faster than the 1100T x6 and barely manages to beat the i5 2500k in some tests. We most likely won't see the full potential of this chip until win8, which kinda sucks. Wonder if MS will release a service update to address this issue.
